I know this is just word of mouth and it is very long time until bonnaroo 2011 but I know some people would appreciate this. The other day I met one of my friend's roommate. We were talking about bonnaroo and she was so excited cause next year she gets to go and get VIP tickets. Well the reason she gets to go and be VIP is cause her mom is dating one of the Black Key's guy's uncle and they are playing again next year. She said her mom and mom's boyfriend went this year cause of the keys. I sure hope this is true because both chances I have had to see the Black Keys i missed them, Wanee (I overslept) and Roo (The Flaming Lips).

This would be awesome!
I live about 10 minutes from Dan Auerbach's studio. Maybe after I get drunk tonight by the fire, I'll go pound down the door and confirm for you all. Wish me luck!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
The Black Keys are surely pretty high up on my need-to-see list, but why would they ever get booked two years in a row, especially after getting a late night? It ain't happening

As if that's unprecedented. Phoenix played late night 09 and came back to close out which in 2010. I'm sure there's other examples. Plus galactic plays every year. why not the keys? They're becoming a roo staple. Nobody would complain
I can see it happening. MGMT played 2 years in a row and they sucked bad, I think the only reason bonnaroo brought them back in 09 was because they were selling out shows everywhere they went. The black keys are a whole lot better than MGMT and they are selling out shows everywhere they go. It would be a good decision on Bonnaroo's part to bring them back
Those are bad examples. Phoenix played a 45min late night during basically a headlining set, then went from virtually unknown to one of the biggest bands in the nation in less than a year so having them back gave a lot of new fans an opportunity to see them. MGMT played Thursday, then also blew up a TON in the year in between and then were upgraded to a late night. The Black Keys are already an upper tier band and just got a coveted late night spot. They can't headline and almost any other slot at Bonnaroo would be a downgrade. They need to put out some new material and get bigger or just stay away from the farm for a while for another set to seem necessary. Again I would love to see them since I saw the Flaming Lips this year but it's not going to happen. Also Galactic is managed by Superfly. It helps the bands profile to play the fest and they run the damn thing so they can throw them in there every year.

black keys are my favorite band, but i dont know if see this happening.
the exception would be if they could somehow incorporate some sort of blakroc set into it. rumor has it theres a 2nd blakroc in the works. maybe a tent dedicated to blakroc artists ending with a black keys/blakroc set.

It makes sense for bands to play back to back years. There are no specific rules about mid to upper tier bands (not counting headliners) coming back and playing after killing a Roo set.

id love for you to be right(or both of us for that matter, a blakroc set would be the shit)

ii was very disappointed that TBK, flaming flips, Daryl hall and chromeo and bassnecter were all at the exact same time.... i can obviously understand some scheduling conflicts but why cant they split up these awesome acts
I love the Keys but they're such festival whores. I'd rather Roo spent the money on a band we haven't all seen a bunch of times already.
That said, I fully expect them to be back in a headlining capacity in a couple of years.
id love to see the black keys reach headliner status, that being said im not sure they(or their genre) will ever reach that state with in modern music.

i agree. i love The Black Keys so much, but i can't see them becoming headliner-caliber. The White Stripes were an anomaly that managed to get things just right.
if The Black Keys were going to get huge, they would have done it already. what else can they add to their music? i don't see them throwing in pop hooks anytime soon...
Ehh... I would still go see them no matter when they played (depending on conflicts), but a daytime show might kill the vibe a bit for me. I completely understand where you're coming from with not wanting another prime late-night spot taken up, but I could very easily see that turning into another Animal Collective situation - a good, highly anticipated act whose music just didn't translate as well into the daytime. Maybe if they were to close out Which or one of the tents on Friday, I could see it working out. Actually, now that I think about it, I might be able to picture them as a What pre-pre-headliner on Friday. They have a lot of that same bluesy-punk sound as The Raconteurs, who filled that same spot in 2008. But I don't think they're quite big enough just yet, maybe in a couple years' time.
The beautiful thing about the Black Keys is that everyone on inforoo likes them.
Oh lord, don't make me change my opinion on them just so I can reassert my hipster cred by talking about how they were so much better back in the day, when only me and three other people had even heard of them. I love them too much to be that guy.

They posted this pic on their facebook, and I thought it was killer. Your comment made me think of it. I could see this on the What Stage at dusk...sans the Chicago skyline, of course.
