Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
A dust mask of some kind and nose spray are definately on my ever expanding 'roo list. CRAZY dust but not enough to spoil my good time. At least it wasn't 100 degrees and humid as as hell like the first year... but more poor little nose. ugh.
Security was more intense but workable. On Friday (I think) at the entrance by the Other Tent there was a dude with a bullhorn saying "If ya don't want it confiscated, be creative!"... funny as hell.
I was lucky. I had a great campsite close to centeroo, I had great neighbors we stayed cool and hydrated. We were prepared x1000 for everything. It pays to have obsessive campmates.
I was flabbergasted that music was done by 3:30 on Friday... just stunned. Still had a blast wandering around with my friends. We kinda panicked when we couldn't find Shakedown. We were all like OMG they shut down latenight AND killed Shakedown... F*CK they've killed Roo!!! ..... It's all OK, we found it. In fact a lot of the time Shakedown found us. Anyway... Saturday latenight was frickin' AMAZING. I caught The Flaming Lips and after much madness left for Mule. OH MAH GAWD!!! great stuff. God Bless Warren Haynes, I love that man. He always comes through. The guests were incredible and Warpigs?!? ... please! ;D Finished Saturday out with Sasha til dawn, just like last year. fun, fun, fun.
We got really close for the Police so I may have gotten a different vibe but I had a blast. Sting was smiling from ear to ear. I was so close I saw Sting's nipple. I don't care who you are, that's awesome.
Tool was uber-bitchin' !!!
Keller = old school happy hippie dance party. fun as hell.
Did anybody else see Mute Math? kick ass!
RyG are badasses.
I feel a little bad for VIP, but you had a shower so only a little.
I'm exhausted and satisfied. I slept most of the day and this is all I can accomplish right now. I'll get into the other stuff elsewhere, later, when I'm a little more coherent.
Dammit I love Bonnaroo, and all the people in it. ;D
This was my first Roo and I will def be back as much as possible. Here were my impressions: - I found the festival really well run and organized which really surprised me (portapotties were SO clean. i mean, for portapotties) - There really were not enough water stations. Considering they keep telling people to drink water (which they should), they make it fairly difficult to get (tip: if you are desperate and cheap like me, the people at the beer stands will be glad to give you the water out of their ice bucket) - Biggest shocker: only a big group of hippies would wait patiently on the shoulder of the road for 10 miles and 3 hrs while 2 lanes of traffic fly by. Amazing! - Next year I will wander around more and try to do more. There is just so much! - The "substances" were not nearly as bad as I expected. I mean, I was offered stuff within 30 minutes but, not being a "partaker" myself, I never felt uncomfortable. - I have rarely heard so many pleases and thank yous in one place. And in 4 days of people drinking, etc in the hot sun, I never saw one fight. Barely a harsh word. - One thing that did bother and surprise me: the number of YOUNG kids there. Maybe I just got put in the teenie booper camp (Lando Calrissian) but I did not expect to feel old at Bonnaroo and I did. - Handy tip: bringing extra beer, etc can come in super handy when you have to leave early on Sunday and need people to pack up early!
Anyway, I found tons of great new bands, heard great sets by my favorites, and absolutely loved it. Can't wait for next year!
^^^ This guy brings up a good point. There were more than 3 spots i counted where the map clearly indicated a water station in the campgrounds where one simply didnt exist. When you walk for 10+ minutes during the blistering heat expecting water and it isnt there, you aren't very happy. Luckily, at the spot where the water station was supposed to be near my friends camp, a vendor was selling bottled water for 75 cents each or would let you fill a cup from his cooler spout for free
<snip> Also, we were trying to leave on Saturday night and none of the people at our pod gave us any constructive advice. I feel like they should have been way better trained.
I had the same reaction. (I started a separate thread about my somewhat negative first 'Roo experience, BTW; maybe a moderator can close it and merge it with this one or something? Sorry....)
I don't know what I'd expected when I tried to leave on Saturday (after deciding that the heat and the walk from BFE was gonna kill me and I was ready to pay anything for a motel), but I guess I thought someone would somehow help me map out the most efficient and least disruptive route through the camping area or something. It was just pretty much "Ask your neighbors, everyone's really cool here"--which smacked just a wee bit of "We rely on the 'Roo reputation of positive vibes so we don't have to do any work." I don't know that they meant it to come off that way--I think it was a matter of lack of training.
Or maybe there was just nothing they could do, since they'd packed us in to what seemed to me a totally insane degree. I had expected three or four deep--this was waaaay more than that.
It's a drag to come back here and see Inforoosters who were so excited beforehand--as I was--come away with some bad experiences.
i think that 99% of peoples' complaints have to do with reality clashing with idealism. it's lovely (and easy) to just think about those idealistic things that stick out in one's memories -- insane moments in shows, bands whipping out legendary moments, bonnarooians talking/helping out one another, the tribal spirit of all those like-minded people uniting. but when it comes down to it -- it's still 80,000 people walking around in 87 degree heat all day, and all the realities that come with it.
long drive to bonnaroo. looong lines of cars to get in (4 hours, for me). exhaustion. long walks to centeroo. lines to get in. exhaustion all over. sketchy mo-fros. long walks back to camp. heat and humidity waking you up. repeat. repeat. looong lines out of bonnaroo (four hours again). long drive home.
last year we got in and out of bonnaroo in about 15 minutes each. it took 5 minutes to walk to centeroo, and the dust wasn't nearly so bad.
this was my second roo, and my last . . . for camping out, that is. i have a horrible sinus infection from the dust. had to take a day off when i work 2 half-time jobs and had to do some slick talking to take off for bonnaroo in the first place. may have to take another day off if my fever doesn't break. next year i'll either be in a hotel or a camper. but i will be there, and a member of the tribe, at that.

There were some pod folks who were great, and some who werent as great but still nice. The pod folks really can't make people get out of your way early though no matter how trained they are...

I hate to be this way, and I know some of you aren't from the south, but didn't you expect the heat? It's Tennessee in June! I feel like inforoo did a good job of warning people how bad the heat can get...I'm sorry some of you had bad experiences with it. Hopefully next year (if you come back, which I want every single one of you to you'll be better prepared.

I'm from the south and I know heat. I was prepared, but it still was too much for me. That is why I won't be going back next year.
I apologize if I offended anyone on my earlier post here (deleted now).... I didn't have the intentions of doing so, i'm new on here and new on any sort of boards in general, so i'm not too good at this. My thoughts weren't meant to be complaints, (more so observations & theories) but I guess they came across wrong.
I have just spent the last 2 hours reading this thread and don't know what I can really add to what has already been said. I am a bit shocked at all the negative experiences this year and complaints. I had a wonderful time (again). Sure there were mean people and the heat sucked and the security was a bit of a problem at times, but at the end of the day it was still Bonnaroo and as I told many over the past few days, your worst day possible at Bonnaroo would still rank up there with the best days of your life.
I know I will be back. The heat was not that bad if you did it right. I drank a ton of water during the day and really tried to relax. Camping in in the tent only area saved me. You could hear the main stage really well so in the day I could chill out at camp, listen to the music, hydrate and conserve my energy for the night. I typically went into Centeroo at 3-4 pm and stayed there until 3-4 am. Sure I missed some bands that I wanted to see but I figured I would rather miss some bands in the day then miss the late night.
I too was not impressed with the Police but it was still cool to see them.
The Lips blew my mind!!!!
Warren Blew my mind!!!!
The Silent Disco kicked ass!!!!
The arcade at night was cool as hell!!!
The dust was terrible but I still did not let it detract from the most excellent time I was having.
Attitude is everything you all. I stayed positve despite some of the issues and had a great experience again and will continue to go back!!!!
