If you don't like pop music, warm feelings, and fun in general turn back now.
Bonnaroo has seemed to be going the way of having a young draw, like Kings of Leon, so I was thinking about who could be the best possible sorta mainstream main draw. TAYLOR SWIFT! I think it's pretty undeniable that she would be a huge draw for Bonnaroo amongst the 16-25 female, and as a result male populations.
Now as far as the music:
Sometimes it's not so bad for like to be about puppy dogs, love, and happiness. To be producing music like this, at such a young age is amazing. She's just so talented and sincere.
Also the new album's pretty great but inconsistent. She's just going to continue to get better guys.

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Pre-emptive strike: The criticism about it being music for 13 year old girls is outdated too. I could see that about some of her earlier material, but this album is just on another level. Some of the lyrics are actually, like, really good (just as there are some cringeworthy ones). Impressive for anyone, not just by her own standards. Her melodies are amazing and that's a big part of it too.
I don't want her for the music, the money it would probably take, her potential spot on the lineup, and the fact that it brings in too much jailbait. 15 gets you 20 gentlemen, I'm not ready to play that game.

I don't buy the "she doesn't belong" argument at all. Her ethos totally fits in with the Bonnaroo community. There's a sort of innocence and love in her music that totally fits in with Bonnaroo. I think everyone that went to the show would have a whole lot of fun losing themselves in the show. Y'all are some negative people.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I honestly don't hate Taylor Swift. I even have a couple of her songs on my iPod. They're catchy pop songs.
That said, every live performance of hers that I've seen has been uneven at best. That alone should exclude her. On top of that, encouraging people who are possibly not ready for four days of sun, music, heat , sound judgement, dehydration and personal responsibility is a bad idea.
I don't mind the outside of the box thinking. I'm not against some pop music at Bonnaroo. I'm not against country music at Bonnaroo. I'm just not in favor of Taylor Swift at Bonnaroo.

She was mentioned as one of the only solo female performers that qualified as popular enough to headline...and that's precisely why she wouldn't be a good fit...we don't want Taylor Swift headlining roo
soooooooo, not the first time this idea's been thrown around, but maybe the first time someone has offered it up as a "good" idea. You guys smell that?? Did someone run over a skunk recently?? Wolf I'm lookin in your direction....

yeah, to be honest, i kind of like Taylor Swift. i wouldn't say her music is particularly "good" but then again, i haven't listened to her new CD, which seems to be what you're saying proves her talent. but i think it's good, catchy pop music. but the spot she would take on lineup would be better reserved for dozens of other acts. but if she WAS there...i'd probably see her

Pfft, whatever, I'm totally down with Taylor Swift. Girl oughta come to Roo just for funsies, I bet she'd enjoy herself.
But really, this is one of those cases where I can't understand why people get so keyed up when any given act is just ONE part of a huge lineup. I realize that the objection is about what it signifies as far as what direction the festival is going in, but I think a lot of people around here do some SERIOUS picking and choosing when it comes to that kind of thing. You throw a handful of rap, electronica, hardcore, whatever into the mix and everyone is thrilled, even though I don't think any of you want to see the overall feel of the festival veer into any of those genres. But throwing a bit of pop into the mix is out of the question?

I don't think the general disdain has anything to do with a pop act being at Bonnaroo, as many "pop" acts have appeared at previous Roos. Instead the objection lies in the fact that Taylor Swift would command a top spot on the lineup, thus taking a set away from a more desirable and credible act.
That's it for me. If she were content to take the Zac Brown spot from this year, I'd be content with her being there. I'd skip the show, but I'd be ok with it. But she's headliner money and probably headliner spot. I'm sure she'd be better in that spot than Kings of Leon, who managed to defy physics by sucking and blowing at the same time, I'd still rather have someone else top the bill.
