anyone else here built a gaming PC before? I've been doin a ton of research, will have all the parts today, and will be building tomorrow, so if anyone has any advice on building, that would be much appreciated.
Ground yourself. Avoid static by not wearing socks on carpet, etc. Don't force anything, everything should plug right in easily. Assuming you bought parts that all work together, it should simpler than Ikea furniture. I build my first gaming rig in 8th grade and everyone was always so blown away. You literally just plug stuff in. Worst case scenario is you get a bad part and have to RMA it. In the three rigs I've built, two had zero issues and one had bad RAM and a bad motherboard. Good luck!

I have a decent idea of when to do what, I've watched like 10 build videos on YT.
would wearing rubber soled shoes on hardwood be good enough grounding?

As someone who also built my computer, this advice is spot on.
Dragon Quest XI is absolutely beautiful. I’m only in about 5 hours, but this has serious GOAT potential, in terms of JRPGs. The art style and graphics, good voice acting, charming music, rock solid old school battle mechanics, likable characters. As much as I love Persona 5, in 30 hours of that I haven’t had as much fun as in 5 hours of this.
It’s just a shame it was released at the same time as Spider Man... which, by the way I’ll probably check out a few price drops down the line.

Probably gonna try to rent Spider-Man tonight. I say "try" because whenever I try to rent a video game that recently came out from a redbox, it's an empty case with the coded ring cut out and taped in there. I never did play God of War.

Probably going to go buy a game console tonight after not having had one for years. Any thoughts on whether the Xbox One X is worth the extra $200? Or if we go for the step down, whether the Xbox One S or PS4 is better? PS4 Pro does not appear to be an option because it's out of stock everywhere I've looked.

yes the X is worth the extra cash if you have a 4k television to output too. MS also has a newly announced all access program that gives you a xbox one x, 2 years of live and 2 years of gamepass (think netflix for games) for 34.99 a month for 24 months or you can do the same deal but with the S for just 21.99 a month. zero APR, finance through DELL.
ps4 has more games but in my exp. most are one and done titles in that they have a great story but very little replay value after the first run. i look at it like this. if you enjoy multiplayer go xbox. if you like single player go for PS4.
xbox gets you games like: Day Z, PUB G, HALO, Path of Exile, Killer instinct, GEARS OF WAR 4, FORZA HORIZON, CUP HEAD, ORI, SUNSET OVERDRIVE, Dead Rising, TITANFALL, QUANTUM BREAK, HALO WARS 2, STATE OF DECAY 2.
ps4:Street Fighter 4, GOD OF WAR, SPIDERMAN, DETROIT, UNTIL DAWN, UNCHARTED 4, HORIZON ZERO DAWN, H1Z1, NIOH, BLOODBORNE, PERSONA 5, YAKUZA, GRAN TURISMO, THE LAST GUARDIAN, THE LAST OF US 2 (UNRELEASED)
also helps to pick the console you will have people to play with.

looks like i missed you, but abagofit gave good advice. how did the build go?
i've built 4-5 gaming PCs and have never had an issue. the only part that's tricky is getting the cpu cooler installed, takes a little bit of dexterity. for my last build i used a water cooler, not for OCing, but just because they are easier to install and take up less space in the case, making the whole build easier.
i build these nice PCs with quality parts, don't overclock, and then i just play civ and bethesda games for five years on them. i think i just enjoy building a new PC at this point.
post-build advice remember to clean out your dust filters and dust your PC regularly. instead of using canned duster i bought something like this which is great. just plug it in and blast away.

it went well all things considered. I did have trouble with the CPU cooler because I had the mobo resting on the cardboard box it came in, and the pressure I was putting on it to get the damn bracket down kept flexing the box. My other two issues were very minor, I used the wrong thread screw for one of my SDD trays, so when I went to try and take it out, the little bracket inside my SSD came with the screw and is now stuck. Not a big deal since I had a second tray to work with. When I went to post, nothing happened. cue minor panic attack, but checked the front panel connectors and realized I plugged the power button in backwards, easy fix, and it booted right up. I had some issues with cable management just cause I bought a non-modular one so I have a giant stash of unused cabling tucked in under my HDD bays. Everything ended up being a lot easier than I thought it would be. I'm amazed how quick this thing is, it boots up in about 5 seconds. I've been playing fortnite, diablo 3, and LoL and am amazed at the difference between this and my PS4. very happy withe everything so far. My first upgrade will be another monitor. I'm currently on an ASUS 24' 75hz 1ms display, and want a 144hz one next.

happy to hear the build went well, good looking parts you have there. i haven't been following the PC parts market lately but at a glance it looks like you got a good value for your money.
the one thing i would've recommended was a fully modular power supply, as you noted. i'm willing to pay the extra cash to make my build and cable management easier, but that part is behind you now.
i'm 37 years old and have been a PC gamer for 30 years. i haven't owned a console since the super nintendo, other than a brief flirtation with a Wii i never really played. I never found a controller I liked, always preferred mouse and keyboard.

I've really liked having a PS4, but the two things that I like the least about it are that 1) the Xbox One has backwards compatability and PS4 doesn't and B) generally, most of the free games that you get with the Xbox Gold membership are better than the ones you get on PS4 Plus (this month being a notable exception).
I preordered. Time to neglect my workload while hunting digital animal skins.
For sure. I plan on following my standard plan of getting through enough story to open up the world then screwing around with side stuff for four months.

For anyone that pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2 you can start pre-loading the game starting Friday. Looks to be a huge file, according to Reddit the game is 105GB with a 55 GB day one patch.

Don't you have to have the digital version though?

Yes, looks like the physical copy comes with 2 discs
Is Rick and Morty still cool or has bullshit Internet culture ruined it?
Rick and Morty is still an amazing show (in my opinion). But internet culture has definitely affected it. Kind of like how The Dark Knight is an amazing movie, but if I see a picture of Heath Ledger Joker my brain is immediately going to think of internet memes.

I really like the show, but I feel like those people have taken ownership of it in a way that I no longer care to do. For example, I never cared about the szechuan sauce debacle. I think the creators played themselves there and that the outrage was a joke.
