I'm pro trans rights and do not support JK. I do however support videogames of a high quality. It's hard enough getting good AAA videogames nowadays. I'll support whoever makes great ones and will choose to support my fellow LGBTQ through other avenues. I think it's reasonable to be able to talk about Hogwarts Legacy as there is nothing in the actual game as far as I have heard that is oppressive.
In fact, the game features a trans woman voicing an incredible badass who stands up to bullies and runs a bar.
JKR is trash, but she already has piles of money. My purchase isn't going to make her a rich piece of shit, she already is one. If I had decided not to purchase the game, it wouldn't make her a poor piece of shit. She has one of the most influential pieces of media of our time, we can't change that. JK Rowling may have invented the universe, but it's gone so much further than her influence.
Depends some on what kind of games you like. If you want to hit the standards, I would lean towards RDR 2, GTA 5, Uncharted, Last of Us, God of War.
I've been thinking I would like RDR. Is there anything wrong with playing RDR 2 if I have no familiarity with the first one?
Real late to the party but no I never played RDR but played RDR2 and loved it.
Skyrim is my jam. Can’t go wrong with the Spider-Man game or Doom either. Ghosts of Tsushima was really fun for me but some people had mixed reviews on here. Also idk if you want to hate your life or get frustrated beyond your wildest imaginations but Elden Ring is real good.
I played God of War 2018 it’s pretty fun but I’d pick it after the games I listed above. The last GTA game ain’t bad either. Depending on what ya like

For everyone on the edge of their seat dying to know what choices I made, I picked up RDR2 for like $20 and its been great so far! Pretty slow paced but in a good way. Every time I'm traveling I do the cinematic mode which is just sick. Looking forward to see how the story develops! I'm still super super early on though. Just shot a deer and I think were about to blow up a train. Wish me luck

The pace picks up but even so....there's plenty of time to take it slow and easy. When your camp is having a party, stick around and hang out. Get to know and talk to the different people as you may get side missions from them and also just generate good points.

Not to engage in whataboutism, but rather just a genuine philosophical/ethical question , where does the responsibility of the individual to consume ethically start and stop? I’ve always just kinda operated under the assumption that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Like it’s hard to get work without supporting anti-gay Saudi oil tycoons, it’s hard to eat without supporting companies that inhumanly treat animals, it’s hard to do a job without directly contributing in some way to the exploitation of another person. Like all of us share the hobby of concerts, and tours are massive polluters contributing to climate change. Most of us just watched the World Cup run by people that let thousands of workers die and are also anti-lgbtq+ Most of us probably are wearing clothes made by practical slave laborers, and participating on this forum with a computer or phone also made by them. So someone help me understand how to pick and choose which unethical purchases to engage in. Like, I don’t get why this game is where people seem to be drawing a line in the sand on their unethical consumption. I want to support trans rights, that should go without saying. JKR’s beliefs of trans people are terrible and she deserves every bit of the stained reputation it’s caused her. But could someone in a polite way explain how playing this game is any different than the boatloads of other unethical things we do on a daily basis?
I haven’t bought the game, and probably won’t because I’m not much of a gamer, I’m just curious to hear some perspectives because I’ve always struggled with grey area moral thinking.
Once I swung around and got all the collectibles in Spider-Man I kinda lost interest. The swinging around is fun as hell though and worth a.. spin.
i feel like the gameplay loop of most open world games gets old fast. i really enjoy Ghost of Tsushima but even thats starting to get old, all the side missions are just the same thing over and over again

I feel like God of War has a good balance of kinda appearing open world and giving you enough to explore but still mostly being linear and keeping gameplay fresh.
Alright. Finally got my Series X up and running. (Couldnt register it as my Microsoft settings thought I still lived in Korea and was using a Korean phone number. When I tried to update my personal settings it said it was a security concern and made me wait 30 days (wtf)). But now I'm moved, settled, registered, and ready to play.

So now lets do xbox games. What are your recs?
game pass, baby
Hi-Fi Rush, Power Wash Simulator, Pentiment, a whole ton of indies I can't remember off the dome. Their first party output so far this generation has been pretty trash, hopefully it picks up this year with Redfall and Starfield.

If you're into Metroidvanias, the two Ori games are essential. The second game in particular is a masterclass work.
I'm a sucker for the Gears of War series, and the campaigns are surprisingly pretty fun and engaging. Similarly, the Master Chief Collection includes all the best Halo games.
By all accounts, the recently released Hi-Fi Rush is a delight.

Game Pass is cool, but see if it's worth the monthly cost for you. It's one thing to watch movies and shows on Netflix, HBO, etc., but it's a whole other, more formidable thing to play a ton of games.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
