It’s OK to play Hogwart’s Legacy. It doesn’t make you a transphobe.
Sure, but also coming onto a board with several openly trans people to gloat about buying it and playing it when no one asked is kind of an unnecessary showing of the ass.

For sure. People buying this game in spite of the backlash is kinda shitty but I'm mostly talking about the people who have been shaming others for simply playing it. Setting up your own boundaries is fine but going after others who don't share those same boundaries is going too far, espeically with something as innocuous as a RPG game.
Also, buy it however you want. Let's not start shaming people over here by how they purchased a fucking video game.

It's also not hard to, you know, not buy the game.
JKR is possibly the most prominent and outspoken transphobe in the Western world.
Even if she already got her money from Legacy, buying the game perpetuates the brand that made her famous, this perpetuating her fame and success...which she uses to call for our complete elimination.
"Not buying the game" is not that heavy of a cross to bear.
If you're pressed about people buying this game, that's a you problem.
look i get that you aren't seeing eye to eye here, but it's not hard to not be an asshole about it. you said your piece and people who are affected by her transgressions have tried to provide insight as to why they feel the way they do about the situation. simple as that, don't have to take it further

Sure, and saying "it's not that hard to just... like... not buy the game" isn't kinda being an asshole too? I literally commented earlier that we shouldn't be shaming others in this thread over their decision to play or not play this game. This all started because someone expressed their anticipation of playing the game and some here took issue with that.
This is a complicated topic and I'm fine with dropping this since we're not changing minds here in this thread.

From what I read, main quests + sides, it has like only 50 hours of gameplay max, so I'm sure it'll be hitting shelves used in mass quantity in a short time.

You can buy the game and not tell anyone. That's allowed.
I'm pretty sick of this mentality that the worst thing that can happen to someone is be criticized. You bought the game. You told us about it. You aren't entitled to how people respond to that if they think (and you know they are going to think) that that contributes to or abuts a culture that kills people.

I'm pro trans rights and do not support JK. I do however support videogames of a high quality. It's hard enough getting good AAA videogames nowadays. I'll support whoever makes great ones and will choose to support my fellow LGBTQ through other avenues. I think it's reasonable to be able to talk about Hogwarts Legacy as there is nothing in the actual game as far as I have heard that is oppressive.

I posted about the game with other games I’m excited to play in the video games thread. Going out of the way to attempt to make people feel bad for buying a game is mind-boggling.
The game has the most diverse character creator ever. Ever. You can make your character trans! If Rowling truly cared, like TRULY cared, she would’ve stumped that out early in development.
Countries that kill trans people own 5 percent of Nintendo. Own SNK, meaning Metal Slug and King of Fighters. Are you going to disparage people for buying Mario games? Seeing the Mario movie? Are you boycotting all of that?
Which film studio cuts Rowling’s checks? WB. Are you going to disparage those for watching the new DC movies? Paying an HBO Max monthly subscription? Watching The Last of Us? Are you going to boycott all of that?
Everyone is free to think and do what they want. That’s fine. But twisting that into putting people down and shaming people for buying a video game is absurd. The logic falls apart immediately.

Dang. I tip my hat to you sir, I am no longer the saltiest person in the thread.

The Last of Us is an HBO show. It’s on HBO Max. Warner Bros Discovery owns HBO. WB cuts Rowling fat checks.
Here’s another one.
The Last of Us is also a PlayStation Productions show. PlayStation has a marketing deal with Hogwarts Legacy, including a specially themed PS5 controller. It’s the top selling game on the PlayStation store. PlayStation cuts Rowling fat checks.
See how this circuitous thinking is unhelpful and reductive?
It’s not whataboutism. It’s weaving threads upon threads upon threads into a quilt of…I don’t even know.
It’s the video games thread. I have the freedom to say I’m excited to play a video game. You have the freedom to respond to that how you like.
The difference? I’m not in here to attempt to make others feel bad about buying or playing the game.

Look, I have no qualms with you personally. I’m a bit peeved this has turned into a mess and what you have personally said and implied about me, but I’m going to coming to this thread and discussing video games.
If you’d like to continue this discussion privately, I’m happy to do so.
Edit: the above was in response to a message that read something like, “JK Rowling isn’t the only one who should shut the fuck up,” but looks like it has been deleted.
Anyway—
The physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered was sold out everywhere until today. Wonder if it’ll bear Metroid Dread for best selling Metroid game ever.
