Well, I can tell you what we look for, but that would take all the fun out of it. Since I'm a nice guy, I'll offer a few tips from the other side of the aisle. (1) DON'T bring glass bottles. If you want a really good search of your belongings, just have some glass bottles in plain sight. If you're not smart enough to hide them or not bring them, well......... (2) Don't be so obvious that you are not trying to make eye contact. It's really a dead giveaway. Reminds me of John Belushi in the Blues Brothers when they get pulled over. (3) Don't be stupid while waiting in line to get in the gates. At that point you are still on a public road and subject to all laws. Deputies are posted along the entrance route and have eyes and noses. You have plenty of time to party once you're inside. Don't gamble you fun by starting a little too early. (4) Holding up traffic will get you noticed VERY quickly. Holding up the line to empty your cooler, take a wizz or whatever is a no-no if you want a smooth entry. (5) Obviously trying to get in the line of vehicles farthest away from the DTF is a dumb move too. Cutting across three lanes of traffic is noticable. (6) Riding on the hood, top, trunk etc. while waiting in line doesn't help you. (7) Throwing your trash out the window while waiting in line really pisses me off. (8) Throwing cigarette butts out will get you a free search too. Imagine a flash fire with all that gridlock! Please don't be stupid. (9) Don't lie, be disrespectful and/or have an attitude if you are chosen for a search. You will loose if you decide to go this route. You know the game.
With all that said, I love the Roo and haven't missed one yet! I still can't believe our little town has the greatest music fesitval in the world ( I'm a little biased! lol) Can't wait to have you all back again! I can assure you the local population loves having Roo and will go out of their way to help you if you need it. Just remember that we have to live here the other 51 weeks out of the year. Treat us as you would like to be treated. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not underestimate the Tennessee heat! Have fun, but take care of yourself AND the people you are with.

I would expect a higher level of security this year.
More Searches, Lots More Enforcement and and Unprecedented Level of Undercover Operations (in the car lanes/lines, camping grounds and the fields around the music stages).
If anybody has kept up with what happened in Missouri at 'Camp Zoe' (google it) last November, you would completely understand why.
The Federal Government has issued an 'Asset Forfeiture' Order against the Physical Property of the Camp due to the illegal activity of its visitors, not the owners or promoters. Like the Manchester Farm where Bonnaroo is held, Camp Zoe is private property. Due to this, I would expect a Much Higher Security Presence at this years Bonnaroo. It'll be much stricter that it has ever been before.
You cannot blame Bonnaroo for this, considering what is at stake. If I were you, i'd leave your No-No's at home and make it easier on everybody!
For First timers: Last year we found ourselves in a whole mess of trouble, and i can assure you because of this we are changing out roo ways for sure. I hope by sharing this story with everyone you too will be able to avoid a negative outcome if you get DTF'ed.
(Background story) -3 girls -new york license plates in a black mazda 5 -1st roo -went to wally-roo -chose to stay over at a hotel and go into bonnaroo the next day. -waited on a 8-9 hour line to get in. -got to the gates:
We arrived at roo the 1st day and at the gates we were searched by a very friendly bonnaroo STAFF MEMBER. (NOT DTF) We joked around with him and had all these so called "no-no's" hidden pretty well, since we were packed up from the trip from NY - Tenn. He lightly searched the neatly packed car, opened up our cooler which was packed to the brim with sports drinks and waters. (he didn't bother moving it). told us to have a great time. We spent the night @ roo and drove back to our hotel,( at this point the 3 of us were arguing!)
More background story: -Not sure how it happened but we decided to nix the hotel idea. (which hands down was the worst idea we have ever had to begin with ! DONT EVER STAY IN A HOTEL WHILE YOURE AT ROO). -We threw everything in the car in a panic. -We ended up putting the "no-no's" in a different place: (under the seat cushion of one of the bucket seats in the back/with our 50 pound cooler on top of it) -The rest was hidden inside something else that was in PLAIN SIGHT. (they actually never found what was in plain sight) -NOTE: we also have prescription medications and contacts with us in our bags.
We arrive at the second day of Roo, this time we are camping and staying for good! The line was very short on the second day and we ended up entering, and literally as soon as we could see the gates we got flagged in to the DTF line. NOTE: On our car we had a "D" written on it for day parking so i'm assuming they knew we were already in the day before (not sure if that added to them checking us). About 20 mins before my 2 friends and I just made up from a huge argument we had the night before and now, we were about to have our car ripped apart. And literally they RIPPED it apart. I was driving, and he asked me for my license and told all of us to step out. THey were very nice at first and told us they were just going to look around and it was a "random search". If we had anything we would like to hand over we could do so at this time and they would write us a ticket. Obviously we all knew we had not thought well about hiding the "no-no's" since the day before was a cake walk. He told my one friend to empty her pockets and asked me if i had anything in mine. THey began to throw all our bags out and go through everything, the one guy lifted the entire cooler and searched the whole thing. THEN of COURSE! he lifts up the seat and finds the "no-no's". At that point they tore the car to shreds. THey asked if we had anything else to just tell them. We said there may be more but we dont know where. THey said that was fine and searched and found nothing else. While they were searching they took my friend over to the table to write her the ticket. (she took the blame so we could all just split the 1 fine). While that was going on the officer asked my other friend what this vile of solution was in my other friends bag. She answered "i dont know" He then flipped out started accusing us that it was heroin! my friend who was getting the ticket quickly came over and clarified to the rather irate cop that it was prescription contacts. To which he then began packing all our stuff back up.
So what happened after: -we got off with just a "ticket". However apparently they treat bonnaroo as if it's its own town or something, so they have their on ways of handling things. -A few months later the ticket came in the mail: $1500!!! we had a couple months to pay it.
Moral of the story: -leave the "no-no's at home" (there are 100's of experienced festival go-ers that will have what you need once youre inside) -if you need to bring them, hide them very well! -You can not really avoid the DTF line (however they will profile on certain things, I'm a believer of that) -Go through the gates ONCE! if you can help it!
a campground that would have shows in Iowa also was seized during the fall.
It was a walking drug ground and thank god I wasnt there when it was raided, I guess cops blocked the entrance after they had undercover cops buy tons of drugs and then arrested everyone.
The owner of the land is still in jail... so messed up man.. let us have our fun. we arnt hurting anyone
I am pretty sure that it is random.. last year we took an RV and as we pulled into the gate an RV was leaving the DTF search.. we were the next RV in line and they sent us to the DTF line.. i think so as a car/rv pulls out they search the next in line
