Anyone going? I believe it's over Memorial Day weekend next year, and it's the 10th anniv (like 'Roo) and Foo Fighters have already been announced as the Friday night headliner.
Has anyone already been? I need advice on how to fly out there (from GA) with camping equipment... I know there is NO WAY I'd get all the crap I've brought to Roo the past 4 years out there via plane.
I think 2011 is going to be my "Year of the Fest"...

Are you friends with Daniroo? She is going and just moved out near the gorge, I think she said less than 3 hours from her place.

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!! TOTALLY hitting her up Good call Jess. Thanks! I still need to figure out how to get all my gear up there though. I saw that Zapp B went this year. I'll hit him up too.

I went to the gorge a long time ago to see Phish, then at least it was more like Deer Creek. You could always ground UPS some stuff to Dani, and then send it home that way as well.
We have gone the last two years instead of Roo. I miss the farm, but the temps are more to my liking. We flew out the first year with our equipment. It cost more to get the equipment there than for us. Last year we drove from Minnesota. It's a long but beautiful drive. Everything at the fest cost twice as much as roo. Can of beer, 10 bucks. The entertainment area is not open 24 hours like roo. Opens at noon and closes around 1 or 2am. Camping in GA is a nightmare and premiere camping is not much better. I would suggest Wildhorse campground. It is just down the road from the fest and they have busses that take you to the gates. Wildhorse is the only way to go and I wouldn't stay at the festival camping areas again. Not sure which we are doing this year, Roo or Sasquatch. Really miss the farm so I hope the lineup is in Roo's favor.
Thanks biglou - I hear that the prices are astronomical and Wildhorse is the way to go indeed. As far as getting your equipment out there - what did you take? Example - Bonnaroo is damn near impossible without a canopy. But memorial weekend in the pacific northwest, is a canopy necessary?? If the food is so expensive, did you take a pop up grill, or buy $1 gc's all weekend? I wanna go because its the 10th anniv (like Roo), and I imagine the lineup will be phenom.... Im hesitant because it sounds kinda pretentious? But again - even if it's the only time I go, I can say I did it. Thanks again for the info!

Mayo, girlie, you KNOW you can count me in for this festie, if you need a travelin' companion! How awesome would it be to see Dani & Ron AND go to Sasquatch?!?

Totally!!!! AND Meghan and Brentan are IN at this point to. It could be a bit of an ACL 2010 Reunion at Sas 2011!
I also think it's particularly interesting that Sas is releasing their line-up on February 7th, which is typically when Roo releases their line-up. As both of these fests are on their 10th anniv shows, Im sure the line-ups will be stellar - but Im wondering who's gonna get ..... the mythical..... the elusive..... RADIOHEAD. Hence my interest in going to Sas, even if the line up is similar to Roo.
We'll need to catch up with Dani once her and Ron get settled in OR.

Got my spot at Wildhorse reserved already ;D They go fast, so if you can, might wanna get on it.
They have an excellent cafe/grill for breakfast and late night, so you really only need to bring snacks/beer. DO NOT eat at the Gorge if you can help it. *shudder*
A canopy isn't totally necessary, but I usually bring one anyway. The one year it rained, we made a LOT of friends. This will be my fourth time camping and flying in, happy to help with any questions you might have.

We took our tent, portable kelty canopies, sleeping bags, air mattresses, our clothes and some lighting. We flew into Spokane and stopped at a Walmart by the airport. Bought a cooler and cheap chairs. Got our food there too and beer. Don't wait till you get to the fest. There is not much to choose from and the prices are unreal. The weather is way cooler than Roo, so sun and heat are not a problem. Rain can be a downer, so the canopy is great to have. We ate at the campground before going in for the day and had a burger at the campground cafe after we were back for the night. Food there is the best. Wait till the lineup comes out and then make your decision that day. The campsites will sell out fast after the lineup is out. Last year we drove out with a camper. They have some rv sites with power. You have to go at least once. It's a great time, we may be back this year too. Need a lineup!
Biglou and Avacadolady - you guys are great! Thanks for all the info... Im gonna be talkin it over with my festie buddies (hols you too!) and waiting to hear the lineup. We'll see if they can top Roo. But Im going regardless! And Wildhorse is a definite now. You guys have definitely convinced me.

How about that price? Roo give you around the same thing for a 1000 less. I just don't get their reasoning. Also, VIPers are the only ones who can come and go from the venue. Everyone else is stuck in for the whole day. They need to fix that also.
^1250 a pop for VIP seems really high to me. I can not imagine what they can bring to the table to make that worth it.
They sell very few of these packages. The year I bought one, there was never a crowd on the viewing areas or in the vip lounges. The only benefit is really access to clean toilets. The honeybuckets there, that's what they call their portapots, are bad. On a level to match or beat the worst you can find at roo. On top of that beer is 10 bucks a can and food is a joke. The venue and the music is what gets people there. I have to say its the most beautiful venue I've ever seen. We will be taking a break this year. Maybe back to roo?

Hmmmm just saw DMB there over labor day weekend and the port-o-johns were immaculate. We praised Honeybucket all weekend. I didnt think the food and beer was any worse then anywhere else. Definitely the most beautiful venue Ive been to but paying that much for VIP? I dont see the draw.
From what I've heard, the DMB weekend does not have near the numbers that Sasquatch gets. At night the honeybuckets were over flowing. A stream of waste was flowing from the toilet area. To me that's nasty. As far as food and drink, i guess if you think 10 bucks a beer and 10 bucks for a hot dog is ok? Well, I don't remember ever paying anything like that at Roo. You still can't get by the fact that Sasquatch is charging 1000 more for a vip package that does not compare to Roo's and vip is the only way I go at Roo. The best value at Sasquatch is GA with a campsite at Wildhorse. Have something to eat before entering, drink water while you're there and feast at the Wildhorse cafe at the end of the day.

The Gorge is a nice venue, but it is not that nice to put up with no reentry and ten dollar beers. That is fine fora three hour show I can not see myself doing it all day though.
Well, I'm not saying don't try the fest. I would like to hit Glastonbury someday too. Even though that will cost me probably three years worth of festival funds. I just don't think it's right to lock people in and give them no other choice but to eat the over prices food that's there. Sasquatch also needs to add some market place shopping like Roo has. Between shows there is not much to do except go lay down on the hillside and watch people walk by. Anyways we are skipping this year, no festivals for us. That's hard after five years of going in a row.
K, so I live in WA.. About 3 hours from the gorge.. AWESOME PLACE! Sasquatch it super fun too.. What I did for bonnaroo was fly from here with a pup tent in my luggage, and just bought a disposible cooler and all my food when I got there.. The gorge is priced just like any other festival, and dispite what the someone said above, the camping is great! Unless your old and can no longer party... WA is a great place and the gorge is a sweet venue.. As far as Dave shows at the gorge, they as well are awesome! Every Dave fan knows he stops by there for three days every year! My sugestion is to go and rock it! Fly into Seattle or Spokane, its half between both of them!!

So where exactly at roo did you have a 10.00 can of beer? The camping at the gorge is great? Premiere camping had two showers for over 15,000 people. The GA camping is packed more than Roo's. DMB has his show in WA because it's the only place he's popular anymore. He caused the death of the 10KLF. Also, watch who you're calling old noob.

Biglou - have you seen the Glasto 2013 thread??? There's a few of us shooting to go! I mean, I'd be willing to bet there's a few on there who are all pumped now but come 2013, they'll dip out.... But there are a handful of Inforoosters who are pretty solidly GOING. I'll be there. Glasto '13!!!! WOOOO!
Okee, back to Sas. So we're definitely going, and from what I've heard from various sources: the majority have said that with the exception of weather temperatures and gorge views alone... it's not all that fantastic. However, as it is the 10th anniv, I am making this trip. Maybe I'll love it, Maybe not, but I'll be able to say I was there. And honestly, Im going with some of the sweetest people I know (my ACL co-fests, and some other Inforoosters) so I got a feeling it'll be stellar... even with $9 PBRs... (i just threw up in my mouth a little bit).
Thanks for all the info people. Please keep it up - If anyone has anything to add, throw it in the mix. I need all the info I can get!

definitely camp at wildhorse! very nice people and great food, shuttle rides are pretty decent as well
with being from mississippi, we actually got cold at night.... but we were told it was usually warmer
i absolutely loved my trip to washington, though.... took scenic routes from seattle, stayed in a cabin in the mountains....
the only thing i didnt like about sasquatch was the sound of the 2 smaller stages during the daytime.... portugal the man and mumford and sons sounded nothing like their bonnaroo sets....
but sasquatch's main stage is great, and you can see every show while sitting on the hill!
I would like to hit Glastonbury someday too. Even though that will cost me probably three years worth of festival funds.

Something to think about. The biggest problem is getting tickets. I've heard a few people tell me it took them a couple years of trying to get tickets. Have to get your name registered early to make sure you have a chance to buy any. I will know by the end of this year if a trip across the pond is going to be possible. Have fun at Sasquatch, we are taking a break this year.

First of all i had $5 12 oz bottles, which would equal a $10 for a 24 oz can from the gorge. And just beacause I dont have a large amount of posts, doesn't make me a nub, This aint my first rodeo cowgirl! So leave the partying to the kids old man and go to your premiere camping! You know nothing of which you speak..
