Buffalo Springfield wouldn't be once in a lifetime. They just played together. That would be twice in a lifetime. They would be a rare act, sure, but not exactly the type that would sell to the younger crowd. This won't happen.
Buffalo Springfield at Bonnaroo is a once in a lifetime thing.
Flaming Lips playing DSOTM in it's entirety at Bonnaroo was a once in a lifetime thing.
They played it at another show.....but doing it at Bonnaroo was a once in a lifetime thing.
Everything is once in a lifetime. Me typing this sentence is a once in a lifetime thing. I could see the same band a hundred times, but each experience would be once in a lifetime. I'm not against them being on the lineup, I just don't think the hype would be as palpable as some of you are suggesting. But this will all be null when they aren't on the lineup.
Also who the quack hasn't heard of For What It's Worth? It's in every stupid movie about the 60s ever made. It's arguably the defining song of that time.
Many people know the song. Not many people know the name of the song or who it was that played it.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

You mean like Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Weir, Robert Plant or a bunch of other people that have been on the top of the lineup in previous years that were jamming before most Roo attendees were born?
The key is they have been jamming for years. Buffalo Springfield has been comatose and recently resurrected. They were an important part of a musical movement, but the name recognition doesn't pop out at you. No need to debate this until the lineup comes out.
Nobody is saying they suck, just that people don't know who in the hell they are. If it wasn't for the rare factor, most people would prefer a straight Neil Young show.

Are we really going to start discussing whether Arcade Fire or BS is more relevant? BS didn't win a grammy last night and haven't put out an album in 40 yrs. Who fucking cares? If that's the big headliner it woild be a huge letdown to the under 40 crowd.
I'm 100% with you. I know i'm in the minority on this board in that I actually like mainstream music and don't care for jam bands, but damn...if this is the lineup, i'll be pissed.
I mean, everyone complained last year and we had Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Kings of Leon (whatever they put on a hell of a show), Weezer, Deadmau5, Flips....
I mean, are they trying to drive the young crowd away this year? I get that Bonnaroo started off as more of a jam-band, classic rock fest....but I honestly have never even heard of Buffalo Springfield and I can guarantee my friends haven't either.
Don't get me wrong, I am completely cool with big jam bands and folk/classic rock bands being there...just throw us young kids a bone too...and just having Eminem and Arcade Fire isn't enough IMO.
Whatever, i'll still have a good time.
I have to ask what does this young crowd you refer to listen to?
All of these "likely fake" lineup bands would be inline with a 18-29 demographic and these are only the ones I am familiar with:
Big Boi, The Sword, Those Darlins, Black Star, The Strokes, The Roots, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Bright Eyes, Titus Andronicus, Gogol Bordello, The Decemberists, Little Boots, OFWGKTA, Sleigh Bells, Mumford & Sons, Girl Talk, Saigon, Best Coast, Matt & Kim, Cold War Kids, Death From Above 1979, Portugal. The Man, Eminem,Man Man, Janelle Monae, Delta Spirit, GAYNGS, Pretty Lights
But seriously......Buffalo Springfield playing a music festival in 2011 (assuming Roo) is a once in a lifetime thing. I don't think they will ever play another big festival.
And if it's Buffalo Springfield with a guest or two (that wouldn't be on tour) then that makes it even more of a once in a lifetime event.
Phish tour all the time now. But their Roo shows were once in a lifetime events because they collaborated with Springsteen which will (likely) not happen again.
what planet are you people on that Buffalo Springfield is even still relevant?
i couldnt name a single song. i had to wikipedia them to see who the band is.
they last made music in 1968. that is not exactly headlining material for the biggest music festival in america, as far as i am concerned. great, stills was in the band - young too. wow.
there goes my karma, but quack it - just being honest.

Taylor Swift won it last year, Robert Plant won before that and preheadlined Bonnaroo. Winning this award means quack all as far as I am concerned.

pretty much this, although i dont care about who won a grammy.
Arcade Fire is innovative and interesting, and has been that way for about 10 years, i believe. so that's 5 times the history of BS...

The entire lineup, basically caters to just that crowd. How much more do you need?
I suggest many of you get an Ipod/Walkman/8 Track/JVC Kaboom Box, or just simply visit Pirate Bay right now, get over your current musical needs, and broaden your musical horizons...it's truly a beautiful quality to possess.

You do realize it took Buffalo Springfield less than three years to produce the exact same output as it took Arcade Fire to in that decade of history, right?

ok, the last time Ringo and Macca made music together was around the same time, so if they were to play at bonnaroo together, by your theory, the 2 of them wouldn't be headliners... wat...
take a look at Neil's and Still's careers and come back and tell us they don't deserve a headlining spot.

You are getting caught up on semantics Itrainmonkeys. Using your earthly definition of "once in a lifetime", everything would fall into that category. However, in a musical sense this would be the second show in a calendar year. How is that once in a lifetime?

Buffalo Springfield satisfies the Classic Rock headliner everyone's been bitching about.
Also, who cares if BS didn't win a grammy last night? Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Grateful Dead haven't won grammys in a while but that doesn't take away from the music they made in the past.

How many chances will you get to see Buffalo Springfield at a big music festival since they reunited?
If Bonnaroo is the only one.........then it's a once in a lifetime thing.
I could be wrong but im pretty sure Brokenlight is what Natedogg changed his name to before deleting his account. It definately appears that way if you look back in the Eminem thread
Wrong. Just a quick lyric from one of my fave Beatles songs. Plus - I just joined today.
Yes but all Nates old posts now have your profile attached to them. Brokenlight, female, 5 posts. Check page 8 of the Hip Hop Act for Saturday Headliner Thread

Well it is the second time. Remember Bridge School? Sure, some would say it is a benefit and not a traditional festival, but it sure is similar. I will take my Neil any way I can get it, but then again I'm the kind of guy that prefers Paul Simon solo to Simon and Garfunkel.
