The deadline for signing up hasn't passed. Good for you!
You must submit a poster by Martin Luther King Jr. Day January 17th January 31st. Since I'm encouraging creativity, the poster should be creative as well.
You will be judged based on both the poster and the lineup. Be creative with both, but don't get too ridiculous. If your lineup doesn't seem feasible( too many headliners, completely improbable super groups) it shouldn't be voted for.
The poster should include the lineup of your festival, the location, and the name of your festival.
You must think of an original name for your festival.
You must think of a location for your festival. This could be anywhere in the world!
You must pick dates for your festival. Required to be three days. If your festival makes it through the first round, you will then be required to submit set times for your festival within a week’s time of your win. Your set times are not bound in any way. You can play all night, like Roo, or you can have a curfew, like Lolla.
Also if you make it past the first round, no additions can be made to the poster. Your poster as you submitted to me as the final draft by 11:59pm 1/17/2011 1/31/2011 will be the one that either wins you the contest, or loses you the contest.
You should have 80 artists total playing your festival. Whether this is Comedy, Spoken Word, Music, or something else. No more then 80, no less then 80.
Be creative! Try and think outside the box.
No Zeppelin, no Floyd, no band with deceased members.
Questions will be asked, and I will try to answer them as completely as possible.
Anyone with any post count can sign up, but I want to have people with at least 50 posts to vote. This is to filter out the friends of the person who created the festival. ND's note (Is this feasible? Can we do this? Because that would be great.)
Sign up as soon as possible, cause I want to get the final entries in by Monday the 17th, to get the ball rolling on this.
Poster makers should remain, and will remain anonymous.

Also, I will not be providing a prize. If someone else would like to donate a prize, I'd be more than happy to do that. Otherwise, it's just bragging rights.

Also, when it comes to location, do we need an actual grounds for the festival picked out such as a park or designated land, assuming its not a downtown style festival, or do we just need a town/city and state, with the assumption that there will be grounds to support the festival?
I think I'm in. But if someone could help me put my lineup into a poster I would really, really appreciate it - I don't own a copy of Photoshop and there's only so much you can do with MS Paint.
Somewhere where it's feasible. Not like at the top of a skyscraper or something.
Damn it. Back to the drawing board on BurjKhalifaPalooza 2k11 then.
I like the limit on the number of bands this time around, but I think you should be able to do a half day like Roo does with Thursday. I'm fine with the guidelines as they stand, though.

Hey, thanks! That looks pretty good - unfortunately I'm on a Mac so I don't think that'll work for me... but it's an Intel-based Mac, so maybe? For all the artistic applications like GarageBand and iMovie that come with it, it's pretty ridiculous that there's no program as simple as MS Paint. Luckily I also have a PC so I'll probably just do it on there. I've finished my lineup, whittled it down to 80 acts, and now it's just time for the artistic stuff.
Also, NoD, quick question - if you have the same artist doing two different things, that counts as two separate acts, right? I'm not talking about having the same band perform twice like Phish in 2009; more like in 2008 with Les Claypool's solo set and his "Electric Apricot: Quest For Festeroo" talkback counting as two separate things.

Would it not be feasible to gather a group of say 20-30 people who want to participate as judges? The open voting thing is so vulnerable to tampering. Just an idea. If you posted in Troo I'm sure you'd come up with a nice group of judges.
I'm still debating on whether I want to participate again, only lack of time is holding me back.

How would judges work?
Only way would be if the posters are sent anonymously to anonymous judges. But I really don't see how we could get enough interest for that. We're not even off the first page here.

Having judges could promote more discussion about the posters, which with open voting there is barely any in the beginning. The posters could stay anonymous like always, the judges wouldn't necessarily have to be, but voting probably should be done through PM so the judges could vote honestly without feeling they have to be partial to their friends.
Being tucked away in this sub-board doesn't draw much attention to the contest, but opening up the judging panel signups with maybe a post in Troo would also promote participation.

You are right, there's always a chance of that, just like in open voting there's a chance that people could create new accounts just to vote. There's also a similar possibility of such shenanigans in Mafia, but if you recognize that possibility and make a rule against it then you could be reducing the chances of it happening.
