12 year old me would punch this me straight in the throat if I tried to pass this off as a Strokes album. What happened to the band that wrote Take It Or Leave It, Last Nite, and Someday?
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

They made three other albums and lived ten more years. I would be incredibly disappointed if Angles was a retread of Is This It.

12 year old you didn't have as sophisticated a taste in music as he thought he did. Good thing he grew up.
I like the new album. I'll have to wait for the high quality release to pass final judgment but this works a helluva lot more for me than First Impressions did. Seems like they might be finding a way forward finally.

I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I can really get handle on it, but my initial impression is pretty positive. It doesn't flow the way the first two albums did, but I wasn't really expecting them to return to that sound. The songs are well crafted though, and they seem to have a feel for what is essential about their sound, which is something they seemed lost on in their last album.
The tension between the Strokes formula and their desire to grow their sound is more interesting than annoying on this album.

Let's not get crazy karoskbro. This is better than that pos.
Also 12 year old me loved plenty of crap. I was just making a point. They might be finding a way forward. But this particular way doesn't seem to be anything special. And if you told me I would think that 7 years ago I'd be incredibly disappointed.
