Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Or it could very well be Ace of Base... in late 2010 they released a new album. Their song Cecilia references the Simon/Garfunkel song. Which is said to be a reference to St. Cecilia. In the their song they say "Cecilia, walk in the light". The word Sheer could also used to mean "bright and shining" and synonyms being pure/unadulterated; which St. Cecilia was a virgin and a martyr.
So did Metallica in 2008. Saying you arent doing a festival in december, before the lineup has dropped, doesnt mean much. They are headliners, they arent allowed to confirm themselves. If I remember correctly he was asked directly about Bonnaroo, he had no choice to deny it whether they were playin or not.
RHCP do have a drunken poetic reshambulance to the clue.
The article that I read, said they "downplayed" the idea of any other festival. Especially Roo. So I doubt they will be there. But with this being the 10th year, anything is possible i guess.
I still dont see why everyone is so set on the Bright Eyes answer. Where I can only find one definition of sheer that includes "bright" as a definition. And that website says it is an "obsolete" definition, i.e. it hasnt been used that way in hundreds of years

Yeah, it doesn't make that much sense to me either. But maybe if we keep throwing out ridiculously wrong answers they'll be forced to give us easier clues? :/

So what if it hasn't been used that way in hundred's of years?

These clues are, probably, fairly straight forward, we just don't truly know when we've gotten it right anymore.
It just seems silly to ignore the most common usage of the word. The word sheer when used as an adj referring to clothes, really only means one thing. "see through". No one who says sheer means "bright" because they are not synonyms.
Is something bright inherently see through? No. Is something see through inherently bright? No.
I get that it is POSSIBLE that the clue writer looked up old English words for "bright". I just find it unlikely as I cant find a single definition/synonym list for "bright" that includes the word "sheer" or any related word. So i dont know how the clue writer would get to "sheer" when starting from the word "bright"
Again we have reached the point of pointlessness. Lol. Everyone seems to have their dog in the fight, now we just need to wait for the official list to see who ended up being right. If any of us.
Urban Dictionary lists "brilliant" as the definitition for sheer. (A Brittish use, as in 'that outfit is bloody sheer!') I could see getting from brilliant to bright. Still don't feel like Bright Eyes is right, though.
Bonnaroo's approach to clues is kinda weird. Normally the reason for giving clues is to lead to answers. Their purpose for giving clues is keep interest up but they don't want to give away their line up so their clues are pretty convoluted.
As has been said, we're entitled to nothing but it doesn't make the process any less frustrating.

I guessed Barenaked Ladies a while back, but I think it's way too easy to be the answer, simply because it was one of the first two things I thought of, the other being Paul Simon.
I can't figure out any way to work Cecilia into RHCP. Unless it's what Anthony Kedis calls his wang.
Cecilia = See cilia. "Cilia are slender protuberances that project from the much larger cell body." Hmm... Would sox on cox be considered a dress code? And, if all you're wearing is a sock, that's dressing pretty sheer.

Well sheer is see through, not necessarily scantily clad.

Don't want to be too suggestive but as an adverb it means, "perpendicularly; vertically; down or up very steeply." The sheer length of their appendages may have be exaggerated by the size of the socks.

This is another one that works. Without any help these educated guesses are the best we can do.

i'm still sticking with bright eyes but i really like the florence + the machine guess
a friend of mine suggested thin lizzy for clue 2 but didn't explain why. they're not the type that would play bonnaroo. and for the first clue, he suggested fall out boy, another band that would never play bonnaroo, not to mention they broke up.

It's a moot point, but if Phil Lynott wer still alive, I could definitely see Thin Lizzy playing Bonnaroo, and I could see it being pretty cool. But, he IS dead, and without him, there is no Thin Lizzy as far as I'm concerned.
