Luckyuser texted me this from an article he found, I'm going to look for it, but here's some connection to Guru I guess: It might seem like a stretch to connect a rap legend like Guru to an electronic upstart like Illumination headliner Derek Vincent Smith — aka Pretty Lights — but one listen to Jazzmatazz back-to-back with Smith's latest, Making Up a Changing Mind, and it becomes evident that these are two ends of the same space-funk continuum. Back in 1993, Guru was taking the bold step to bring soul-stirring, live instrumentation to the sample-based world of hip-hop. In 2010, Pretty Lights is working to take sample-based music out of the studio and turn it into a genuine, soul-stirring live music experience. And in both cases they succeed wildly.
once someone said Christmas tree, Lights was the first thing that popped into my head. She was discovered by Jian Ghomeshi from The Q and he also manages her. He was born in Britain but he is of Iranian decent.
could you say more about this?
The Q is a daily music related talk show on CBC radio here in Canada, and Jian is the host. Manager and Guru could be related. Just throwing it out there really

I like Neon Indian and the fact they played last year could be a tie-in of sorts with a few different thoughts on this clue. Pretty Lights seems a little more straight forward and you can follow the logic pretty easily.

If not, my first guess was Widespread Panic - Their song "Up All Night" has the line "The best thing about New Years are the Christmas lights." and "Don't call the priest" = "Don't tell the band"
Just to go back a little bit to the whole stock market being up for a few months thing. The biggest financial guru would probably be Warren Buffett. That of course could lead to either Warren Haynes or Jimmy Buffett. Although, I think the clue is probably referring to christmas decorations.
The Strokes, who FINALLY announced their album coming out Priest = Richard Priest, their tour manager (right?) Guru = J.P. Bowersock, who is listed as the "guru" for the band in the Is This It? album booklet alongside his picture, and was on tour with Julian Casablancas during his solo shows

I really think this is it...
Still up. A month now, maybe two. Don't call the priest, just find my guru.
In this song he is not really sleeping, but on a trip or surreal life learning sabbatical. He says he is "sleeping" for 40 days (little over a month) then 60 days (2 months ). He has no fear of death cause after he gets "back" so there would be no need for the priest but wants to talk to his guru about the things he has learned about life.
Also another poster posted that it could have been a band from last year. They are due for a new cd I believe. (looking)
A guru (Sanskrit: गुरु) (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ) is is one who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and who uses it to guide others (teacher). Other forms of manifestation of this principle also include parents, school teachers, non-human objects (books) and even one's own intellectual discipline
Edward Sharpe: 40 Day Dream... I've been sleeping for forty days and Yeah, I know that I'm sleeping cause this dream's too amazing She got gold doorknobs where her eyes used to be, yeah One turn and I learned what it really means to see, yeah
It's the magical mystery kind Must be a lie Bye bye to the too good to be true kind of love Oooooh I could die Oooooh now, I could die
Now I've been sleeping for sixty days and Nobody better pinch me biznatch I swear, go crazy She got jumper cable lips She got sunset on her breath I inhaled just a little bit Now I got no fear of death
It's the magical mystery kind Must be a lie Bye bye to the too good to be true kind of love Oooooh I could die Oooooh now, I could die

I suppose clinically sleep paralysis is kind of opposite of being up for a month or two, but neon has a sort of up-all-night connotation.
Seems like every year they bring back a Thursday night act and give 'em a friday or saturday slot too. I'm guessing neon indian, which is cool with me, they were pretty rad last year.

Well, I just must suck at this because I'm feelin' like it's Madonna... My thought process- Wendy Shanker wrote a book called "Are you my Guru?" It's about a girl battlng w/ her weight. When I looked it up, it said, " How medicine, meditation, & Madonna saved my life"
For anyone who's taken diet pills, they'll keep u up Priest reference, Like a Virgin Guru?? the book...
After being directed away from christianity and toward eastern religions by the second part of the clue, I think "up" may refer to ascension (aka enlightenment) of a "guru".
Bodhi Day is a Buddhist holiday celebrating the ascension/enlightenment of the Buddha (aka Siddartha or Siddartha Guatama or Guatama Buddha) - typically celebrated on December 8, but celebrated by some on the 8th day of the Chinese lunar calendar (which could account for the indecision in "A month, maybe two")
A quick google scan turned up a couple of bands called "Siddartha". I doubt those bands are exactly where this clue is going, but it could be some other relationship to Bodhi Day. . . .
Going with the Edward Sharpe thing, his character is kind of like a guru, this messianic alter-ego who's not a priest, but more of a guru... Makes sense to me.

Alex later on discovered that the name means "demon" in a Native American language.

Right now, I think the best guess is Pretty Lights. All of the other guesses don't really take into account "Still up." The fact that it is late January right NOW means that those pretty Christmas lights are still up, and have been for a while.
The Edward Sharpe song is called "40 Day Dream." He's sleeping. For a long time. Not awake. Very specifically so.
