The lineup drops tonight at 12:00 a.m. CST. But according to COS and a couple of other sources here's who we can expect:
Arlo Guthrie, Tom Jones, John Mellencamp, Bon Jovi, Alejandro Sanz, Jeff Beck, Jason Mraz, John Legend, Mumford & Sons, Robert Plant, Avett Brothers, The Decemberists, Wyclef Jean, and Kenny G first weekend.
Arcade Fire, Wilco, The Strokes, Kid Rock, Cyndi Lauper, Gregg Allman, Jimmy Buffett, Lupe Fiasco, Lucinda Williams, Michael Franti, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Mystikal, Sonny Rollins, Willie Nelson second weekend.
I can't believe a thread didn't already exist for Jazz Fest 2011! What an amazing lineup! They didn't have Arlo Guthrie on COS. I wish I lived in N.O. sometimes. Is there every a shortage of music in that city?

If this is true they killed Coachella in my opinion. I know it's spread out over a few more days, but they got two Coachella headliners (Arcade Fire and The Strokes), a few Coachella biggies (Lauryn Hill, Mumford and Sons), and added Wilco, Jeff Beck, Lupe, Jimmy Buffett, John Legend, Arlo Guthrie,......man!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
You're right. I think they just one upped Coachella. Plus, don't forget Robert Plant! And you know that undercard will be stacked with amazing local acts blowing the crowd away. Not to mention that many of those artists on the list will show up in the local clubs at night.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Oh wow, I'm blown away. Was not expecting this at all. I was curious but not really interested, but now I definitely am. I'm probably going to try to go Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th.
Only two things though. Don't they have all the big names play at the same time? It seemed like that when i looked at last years schedule. Because the undercard is mostly just local artists.
And does anyone know a decent priced hotel? The one I stayed at for Voodo, i think it was the official one, a Marriot, was really expensive and I want something cheaper yet still decent quality. I don't care if its not right by where the festival is. I don't have a ton of extra cash and want to minimize spending here

^^^The original information came from someone that found it up on Ticketmaster earlier in the night, and that's the name he said. Stinks, but still glad to see the lineup a couple of hours early.
Ollo deleted his post in which he tried to justify what CoS did, and this video was my response. I should have quoted him, because now I look like a crazy person.

Yes, the official performances usually end around 7 or shortly thereafter...leaving plenty of time to grab a nice bite out for dinner and then hit the numerous after shows around town or just some great local music in the Quarter or Marginy....
So far though I have to say with a few notable exceptions (Arlo, Jeff Beck, Tom Jones if it IS him LOL!) I'm not going to feel so bad about having to miss JazzFest this year....I know there will be a LOT of overlap of the local bands with VooDoo (Galactic, Trombone Shorty, Ivan and Dumpstaphunk, Big Sam, Rebirth, etc al and maybe Dr John) and I have seen all of them multiple times anyways. And I have seem most of the other big artists that I care anything about either at JazzFest before or at other major fests. The only exception being Avett Brothers which I only caught a part of at Roo one year but I'm sure they will be at several other fests this year and they are coming to several venues within 100 or so miles of here so not too worried...I'll catch them somewhere.
I am going to have to pick and choose my fests carefully this year unfortunately And unless they add more than a couple of MAJOR headline must-sees...it looks like Jazz Fest just isn't going to happen for me this year....not if I want to keep Hangout and Roo as possibilities.
Bring your mudders! Trust me...you will be glad you did! And don't worry...you will see TONS of girls in sundresses and mudders...shrimp boots...you name it. One more reason I tend to prefer VooDoo over Jazz Fest SLIGHTLY...
Springtime in NOLA is rainy season...it's not a question of IF it will rain during Jazz Fest...just WHICH and HOW MANY days....and how MUCH mud there will be that you will have to wade through. The good news??? I do believe that they DO allow umbrellas into the festival (and full size camp chairs, heck full size SOFAS if you want to carry them, coolers, beach umbrellas, rugs, flags...people literally set up LIVING ROOMS in the Fair Grounds...which sounds GREAT ;D Til you are trying to navigate around all that crap with 200K of your closest and sometimes not nicest friends ) So just Be Prepared. For Everything. LOL!
