A veteran and magistrate, or a character of sorts. A throne one cannot abdicate, of which a crab can make a fort.

My first thought is something with a royalty in the name like Kings of Leon or Queens of the Stone Age. Haven't fit the rest in, but that would be throne you can't abdicate.
Do you think the clue is describing a 3 piece band consisting of a "veteran," a person who has been in music for a long time, a "magistrate" or "character of sorts" (no idea on that one) and a drummer who is extremely talented (double meaning on a throne that can't be abdicated, meaning a drummer (throne) who is not rivaled by many other drummers?
Veteran-a person who has served in the armed forces an experienced person who has been through many battles; someone who has given long service seasoned: rendered competent through trial and experience; "a seasoned traveler"; "veteran steadiness"; "a veteran officer"
Magistrate-a lay judge or civil authority who administers the law (especially one who conducts a court dealing with minor offenses)
Im thinking that whomever this clue is about, has been around for quite sometime. Dunno about the magistrate part.

It says a character of sorts, which could mean identities they have had threw songs. Also, if as above said a crab can live in stones could be a stone wall. Theres only one person who could have a thrown on The Wall.
"A throne one cannot abdicate, of which a crab can make a fort."
King Crab?
King crabs, also called stone crabs, are a superfamily of crab-like decapod crustaceans chiefly found in cold seas. ...King crabs are generally thought to be derived from hermit crab-like ancestors...
