For 160 bucks that line-up is a steal. I wish AC and Superfly had booked the Greyboy Allstars and Charles Bradley for Roo. Two artists from the undercard that really stand out for me.

I actually like a lot of the undercard: Fresh & Onlys, Ty Segall, Phantogram, !!!, Wye Oak. I would definitely be there if I was on the opposite coast.
i think the implication is that MGMT sucks... i personally very much enjoy MGMT and have seen them three times. first time was at bonnaroo latenight 09 which made me a fan (although i know people complain about soundquality of that show, it was the highlight of the weekend for me). afterwards i caught them in mccarren park (kinda blah) and then radio city music hall after they released congratulations (sounded great, but imo not the right venue)
i've gone out to SF for treasure island (friends live out there) but this lineup looks pretty fun (at least what i'm familiar with) - anyone shed any light on this vs. TI?
Uhh, I've seen them four times this year, Chicago, Maryland, Asheville and Nashville... About to see them for a fifth time at Beale Street in Memphis... I will not be disappointed.
I like MGMT and all, seen em a few times. However, they aren't one of the better live bands i've seen. Luckily Arcade Fire and Phish are so you are in luck.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
From my experience they are possibly the worst live big name festival name right now. They make decent music but collectively suck it live. It's awesome that you like them, and you may like their live setup, I just don't know how you could think they're a good live band. I listen to their studio stuff, but they left a bad taste in my mouth when I saw them.
Phish at a festival right by the Haight? Uh What? Glen Watkins is looking profoundly dumb right about now. Also, I would argue that this undercard is more relevant than Bonnaroos, but that's a matter of opinion (and mine is better than yours).

May I ask when you saw them? But, they are very tight live for me, sure, they arent perfect or as good as the recordings... But, they are having fun and I feel that when there is a devot crowd not just there for kids there is a special connection. Not to mention the guys are incredibly sweet and generous to the fans... I'm biased as fuck, I know.
I do believe MGMT was horribly strung out on whatever at Bonnaroo 2009. If you weren't also faced that show did indeed blow. I don't know if that's typical of an MGMT set, but they were horribly off during that set and you should have been at Nine Inch Nails anyways.
I heard nothing but good things about the set at Moogfest. That said those people were fans, I'm not so much. They could do alot worse than MGMT.
That undercard is insane. There are alot more bands I want to see than on any line up released thus far, for me.
Katy Mae nailed it on the head. They are such a disappointment live.
I saw them at Moogfest...they had no energy and just didn't seem interested. I felt the same way the last time I saw them. The only reason I saw them at Moogfest was because my girlfriend liked them, and had never seen them. I tried my very best not to taint her opinion, and had hopes that they had improved live. By about the third song, she turned around, looked disgusted, and said they were horrible. We went upstairs and joined 33 other people at Clare and the Reasons.

I was faced and they were fun, but that set was def disappointing. I left NIN a lil early to catch the 2nd half of MGMT so I could hear new songs. Wish I had stayed at NIN for the Dillinger- Wish encore!
MGMT is hit or miss apparently. My first show with them was at the New Orleans house of blues opening for Of Montreal in Nov. 2007. About 20 people in the room....I was blown away! They tore it up, met the dudes and hung out after OM.
Roo - 09, MEH!
Voodoo '10- MGMT FUCKING KILLED IT. Best set of the weekend for sure. and that was the shittiest voodoo ever. But MGMT, on Halloween, all dressed as scooby doo characters at sunset. That was one of those memorable shows you don't forget. Everything was just right. They were jamming out hard, with crazy 4 part harmonies that were ripping my face off. They've come a long way and that was a very impressive show (I went to WSP afterwards to get the rest of my face destroyed).

For those that have been, are there late night sets at Outside Lands? I would guess no since it takes place in the middle of SF. Certain time music has to stop by?

I'm not a huge fan or anything, but their show at Roo in 08 really impressed me... not a fantastic show, but I dug it. I did hear bad things about the 09 set, though. Also, I've heard positive things about the Moog set.
To be quite honest, MGMT's show in 08 was quite forgettable. I was more entertained by a group of kids from Cincinnati who were all on cid that wanted to talk to me and compliment me on my long hair the entire show. Hah.
In retrospect, it was kind of cool to see them blow up months later and became indie media darlings. I remember the show was not crowded at all and I got to the center of the crowd right when it started. Battles was way more crowded than MGMT.
