Something I have been thinking a lot about for the mornings of Roo. Though I can buy some from a vendor, make it on a French press or something with little to no effort and with the use of no heat or really anything but water.
And then I remembered Starbucks VIA coldbrew coffee, it maybe instant but this and a water bottlle any time seems easy enough. Does any one use this? If so is it the same as just making a cup, taste wise since it is instant coffee?
I like very strong coffee, and as instant coffee goes, VIA is pretty good (I've only tried the extra bold). I keep some in my desk at work for days when I can't get out for coffee because it's better than the stuff in the cafeteria. I will be bringing a french press to make coffee at Bonnaroo this year but if not for that I'd go with the VIA for sure.
I remember these individual cups (hillside coffee) that heated themselves. I don't think that they make them anymore...I can't find them online. I'm not sure how well they worked either. I just go to the stands. I got an iced coffee with a shot of expresso. It was pretty good and perfect for starting my morning.
The VIA things are a good idea, but I need flavored creamer in my coffee. I think I might brew some before I leave, pour it in a container (gallon?), maybe mix the creamer in, and keep it in the cooler. Iced coffee ready to go. I wonder if it would be good all week..?
For creamer, I always "borrow" a bunch of those little creamers from a restaurant/gas station. Then you don't have to be constantly worrying if the cooler ice melted and spoiled your milk (I'm weary of milk products in coolers). Added bonus is the multitude of flavors you can bring.
I'm a fan of the percolater. But have also brought Starbucks Iced Coffee, and just dealt with the fact that I was bringing in contraband glass.
I absolutely hate iced coffee. Are there stands with hot coffee? If not, I'm sure I can last the weekend without any coffee.
I hate iced coffee too. I'm a coffee addict and I drink at least a pot a day. I like mine strong and black, no creamer or sugar. I don't drink coffee while I'm at Bonnaroo because 1. I don't want to mess with it, and 2. it's already so fucking hot outside. I bring a case of Mountain Dew to get my caffeine fix then drink the shit out of some coffee on my annual stop at Cracker Barrel on my way home.
I do believe there stands in the campgrounds that sell hot coffee along with breakfast items.
I think between $3 and $5 for 12-20 oz., if I remember correctly. They had coffee, black, but flavored syrups. There was also iced and hot lattes, cappuccinos, and chai.
It's super expensive for not a lot of coffee. I honestly don't remember a price, but it was goddang high.
Mostly anything vendor related is marked up for the show, thats why i am trying to not give in to their high prices.

I would likely do it that day in a plastic water bottle shake it and pour into a cup and then add cream. The iced version is already slightly sweetened so it's all good to go. I just wouldn't recommend the prep work for that, especially for a weeks worth. They are instant coffee still, after all.
I also need my caffeine kick. Ideally I will have kicked the coffee habbit, since I will be graduating two weeks before Roo, but if I do not, here is my proposed solution:
I am thinking of makeing a gallon or two of double or tripple strength high-quality cofffee in a recycled plastic jug. I will also bring some sweetened non-dairy creamer. I can keep both outside of the cooler, and when I want a cup in the morning, I can throw some ice into a water bottle and add the coffee and creamer (and some whiskey if its getting late) and have ready-to-go iced coffee all weekend!
I absolutely hate ice coffee too. So I bought a Coleman 14cup perkilator of amazon for 35$. I gotta have my coffee. I got a big one for sharing with everyone. Il have a sign up when I'm offering.
Yeah, the Centeroo coffee is expensive and in my experience the staff is surly. So it's just like a Starbucks, which I avoid. At Roo I brew our morning coffee myself using those one-shot instant drop-in packets. Boil water, rip open, stir. I use two per cup to get the right strength. Quick and easy and danged cheap.
That reminds me. I've never seen them in the store (I only looked once), but my mom has coffee in tea bags for when I am home. If you can heat water at camp, these are a lot better than the powder mix.
In a pinch these will work if you have coarse ground coffee. It can't be ground for anything less than melita (french press and espresso have a finer grind than that) and you just drop it in a cup of hot water and let it steep. We used to do this at my old shop when the brewers broke.
Hmm I'd rather not pay $5-6 a day for coffee.. I wonder if Costco sells the VIA packs. I'm willing to bet my neighbors would appreciate me bringing extra.
Starbucks always has deals on the Via, if you don't get their emails or follow them on FB you should, I have gotten many free because of that.
I am a coffee addict. We have a stainless French press and were going to bring it to Bonnaroo but I realized when there I actually don't want coffee. May be TMI but with porta potties I don't want the coffee poo, and the heat is just too much. I also don't want a fast wake in the morning, I'm more slow and lazy during the heat, conserving my energy for later in the day.
We got our stainless press on Amazon for like $35, we have replaced our glass Bodum with it, it's that great for every day, and then great for travel too!
Got a few leftover cans of Sterno laying around from a party I had; I think I am going to get a little folding Sterno stove and a small percolator or some "fancy" instant for the wife. I don't drink the stuff but she NEEDS her coffee... Having her caffeinated will make my mornings much better.
I'm bringing a percolator & Coleman stove, some Starbucks VIA packets and a few cans of their doubleshots (not the energy ones, those are really gross).
I was woefully unprepared for my first roo and didn't bring ANY caffeine. I've been overcompensating ever since.
Wow, $5-6 for an 8 oz. coffee? Considering they're probably just using cheap old Folger's, at that price they damn well better be Irish-ing that shit up for me!
A perculator and camping stove do it good everytime. Yep some mornings it can be a little hot, but i add only enuf ice to make it drinkable. Gots to have my java.

i dont go far without coffee and at the roo its the cheapest buzz of the day. i did the simple jet boil water with some instant and made it work with some coffee mate. not quite the same as home but what is at the roo
My whole goal was to fingure out a solution which would eliminate heat sources and make it as easy as a packed of coffee which was water solvable and quick shake and bam coffee! Outside of the camp stove and premaking is there any more ideas, trying to not give all of my money to vendors. Any other ideas?
