It might be the tight deadline right before the festival. Like you said, most people seem to be leaving Thursday, so the contest is basically ending the day people are leaving.

My apologies for last night. After leaving the cabin, I was going to head to the Orange Peel. Instead I ended up napping for four hours in Bonnie's room - missing just about everything last night. I caught the last 10 minutes of Moby, and that's the only thing I saw. Ended up crashing at a hotel somewhere over by the mall.
Ugh... even I'm embarrassed by that night. And not for the typical aspie related oddness.

Great festival. I'm glad I can check Suicide and Tangerine Dream off the list, and I thought both of them were fantastic. I know some people thought Vega was a little goofy, but he was obviously having a blast up there and it made me happy. It helped that Rev is still a total badass. TD was killer, even though I missed the first 30 minutes to see all of The Antlers (who were great as well). Good to see TD incorporate a wide range of the styles they've employed in the band's 40+ years of existence.
Other favorites were Austra, Battles, The Antlers, and Oneohtrix Point Never. Only regrets....I could have caught more Amon Tobin and still gotten into Suicide. And I wish I had watched more SBTRKT instead of the Rileys, who spent way too much time on the jazzy piano stuff. Oh, and Grimes kind of blew, should have just watched all of The Field.
Everyone seemed to be in an appropriate venue and time slot. I was paranoid about getting into Suicide, but there were only like 100 people at the Orange Peel when I showed up at 11:10. It was comfortably full by the time they played, but definitely not pushing capacity. Which is just how it should be. FlyLo looked like it was the only major problem all weekend, but I don't know where else they could have put him on Friday.
Security was invasive, but I kind of expect that with a walking festival. They were especially gropey at wristband check in on Friday, carefully feeling out everything in my pockets and squeezing just about everything down to my ankles. Pat downs got lighter as the weekend progressed, though. I still don't know why it was necessary to make people go through a security check at the Civic Center just to get a wristband, it made checking in so much slower.
I didn't have an issue with security. A male security gaurd let me walk through without laying a hand on me after asking if I had a bag (no)-I was wearing a short dress though. Then later a female asked if I had glow sticks (I looked like I would dressed as Rainbow Brite, I suppose) and let me walk through after saying no. Besides those two occasions I never had anyone even speak to me related to security checks.

Had an unbelievably great time this weekend. Just about everything I saw was good to great and Asheville is still the coolest place ever to hang out at.
Amazing: Chromeo Flying Lotus Brian Eno's Illustrated Talk Crystal Castles St. Vincent Battles (especially "Atlas"...one of the best, most brutal, most powerful songs I've ever heard live) M83 Passion Pit (by far the biggest surprise of the weekend...wasn't a huge fan and did not have high hopes for their set but I was blown away and became a much bigger fan of theirs after seeing them live)
If I had to pick a #1 absolute favorite out of these, it would probably be M83 or St Vincent honestly, but all these were phenomenal.
Good: Austra The Antlers Holy Fuck The Field TV on the Radio (really I thought this set was just OK and I've seen better sets of theirs, but several of my friends who hadn't seen them before thought it was awesome, others hated it...so IDK) Dan Deacon SBTRKT (was really into this and wished I could've stayed, but had to leave halfway through to see Crystal Castles) Twin Shadow Neon Indian
Sucked: Little Dragon cancelling Zomby Flaming Lips (COME ON MOTHERFUCKERS COME ON COME ON COME ON...Jesus, we fucking get it, Wayne Coyne...I don't know what more I could've done to come on, but he kept telling me to come on motherfucker) Amon Tobin (walked in for 2 minutes to look at the visuals, immediately left, wasn't into it at all) Oneohtrix Point Never Ghostland Observatory (sounded like shit, lasers looked pretty cool)
Also I definitely touched Annie Clark's left arm and her guitar, I'm never washing that hand again haha. Hottest woman ever. Wish I could've hung out with some of you guys but I hadn't been on this board a while before leaving for the fest.

Yeah, the Flaming Lips just weenie around way too much. I left around 40 minutes into their set and they had only managed to play 3 "real" songs (I'm not counting the intro music and the "Sweet Leaf" cover the band played while Wayne was out in the bubble). This was the third time I've seen them at a festival this year, and I just didn't have the patience for more than that. They murder whatever momentum they manage to generate with the pauses and "come on" poop between songs, and it only gets worse after the initial burst of confetti and the "hits."
I was in the Renaissance on Saturday night, with a room that overlooked Animoog. I went back up to drink during the rest of the Lips' set, and from the eleventh floor it was pretty obvious that I wasn't the only one who got bored quickly....by the end of the set, the crowd was maybe 40% as big as it was at the beginning. The crowd looked way bigger during Crystal Castles.
EDIT: I thought TVOTR were much better at Moog than at Pitchfork this summer. Less precise, maybe, but way more energy. The setting helped, too.

^^Yeah, I would agree they were better than they were at Pitchfork (I actually saw both sets as well). My favorite TVOTR set by far, though, is when I saw them right after Dear Science came out at a midsized club called Amos' Southend in Charlotte. That was one of the top 5 or 10 shows of my life so far. I just got bored with the new stuff they played at Pitchfork and Moog honestly.
^Garageland I don't know how we didn't bump into each other again throughout the weekend, but it was awesome to finally meet you. Hope you had a blast.

Any of you guys see Battles? I couldn't believe how every time I thought "Atlas" couldn't get heavier, it got heavier. The way they kept building it and building it was truly stunning. They were fucking amazing.
I was at Suicide while Battles was on but I heard great stuff.

I saw all of Suicide and was actually able to get over to TWA before Battles started. I'd say Battles played my 3rd favorite set of the weekend, behind Suicide and Tangerine Dream. It was my 5th time seeing them, and I've never been disappointed. Perfect for the post-midnight slot, too.

I don't know dude! I don't really know what you guys look like except for Jeff, so I was looking for some indication that someone was a board member here all weekend, but didn't see anyone. Were you at the Eno talk? I saw someone that I thought might've been you (from your Facebook pics) but I wasn't certain enough to come say what's up, haha. Sorry I missed all you guys this weekend. Maybe next year at Bonnaroo or Moog.
