Not surprised. When an album this big is only released digitally for the first few days, its going to have huge sales. I expect their model to be followed by a lot of artists in the near future to avoid leaks, so I'm wondering how long this benchmark will last.

I think it evens out a bit because of the fact they were able to prevent a leak before the album was released. I think that has a decent impact on sales.
If someone was going to download the leak and then not purchase the album why wouldn't they just wait until someone posted the itunes version online. I don't think leaks affect sales as much as you think.

Also the digital only thing to prevant leaks/sell more copies. This really only works if you're already established have a loyal fanbase who likes buying your music.
Radiohead NIN Kanye/Jay Lady Gaga Lil Wayne could probably pull this off.

I honestly think of shooting up heroin, but I kinda doubt Jay Z is rapping about that. I am going to storm the stage when I see them after the set and try to find out.

This album is really fantastic. I listened to it once or twice a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty good, but I just picked it up a few days ago and it really clicked, Ive have had it on repeat ever since. Real top-notch stuff, the production is just insane.
Also got my ticket for the Pittsburgh show yesterday, pretty pumped
I was wondering this too. I can't figure it out but I recognize the melody of it, no doubt.
It's kinda similar to Marla by Grizzly Bear... maybe an old demo version or something? I know Jay-Z loves GB so it would actually make sense.
I don't think thats it, unless its something GB sampled for their song. I haven't ever listened to much GB at all, but that little interlude sounds extremely familiar. I just can't place it.

Jay-Z doesn't typically respond to rap disses, but Lil Wayne is big enough that he may deserve some attention. But I doubt it. Any disses from Jay will be subliminal in all likelihood.

From Weezy, in what appears to be a response to the Baby money line in HAM
"Talkin' 'bout baby money, I gotcha baby money," Wayne raps. "Kidnap your b*tch get that how much you love your lady money / I know you fake, n*gga / Press your brakes, n*gga / I'll take you out, that's a date, n*gga / I'm a grown a** blood, stop playing with me / Play a**hole, and get an a** whippin' / I think you pussycat, hello kitty." ("It's Good")

Jay alone has more money than Wayne and Birdman. I don't think its even that close. Kanye would probably be fourth on the list of those four.
Edit: After minimal research its a little closer than I thought between Birdman and Jay. I had Baby in the 200 million range, but I was off a bit. Wayne is worth more than Kanye, but not by a whole lot. Baby cashes in on Wayne's success more than he does.

He shouldn't have dropped out of college. He would've learned that savings and investment is the key to long term financial stability.
The numbers I looked at were for net worth, not bank accounts/cash flow. I'm not at all surprised Wayne is ahead of him. He is a little more popular, although its pretty close these days, and he's been in the business longer, not to mention he is a "big wig" for a record label. Wayne could potentially be worth a lot more if he didn't have Baby taking his share off the top.

Here's the quote
"Jay-Z can't deal with Kanye," the Post's "insider" claims. "Jay is a stone-cold businessman. He wants to recoup all of his money from Live Nation. But Kanye wants to upstage rock stars with a blowout show. He doesn't care about costs. He has a lot less to gain from the shows."

That quote doesn't really mean that he spends his cash flow on b.s. More that he doesn't take costs into consideration for tour production. Two very different things, imo. Not that he doesn't blow his money, but I don't really see how you could interpret that from that quote. Also, that article ended up being pretty bogus all around anyway.
