Any jigsaw puzzlers out here have any recommendations for puzzle boards? I've been doing 1000 piece puzzles on the back of a bookshelf I took down like 2.5 years ago now and it's officially ridiculous. I've used and can't stand that roll up mat though, so any other recs for things you actually use would be sweet.

I don’t have a recommendation. I’m just here to brag. The guy we bought our house from was an architect, and he built himself this workspace between the kitchen and the living room. It is perfect for working puzzles.
never followed up on this but I have a job downtown with the city that is way better than my last job, I bus to work, I'm paid more. My work life is much more aligned with my values than it was before. woot woot

Birthdays for first graders are weird. We don't know any of the parents phone numbers so we don't know how to do a friend birthday party per se. And it was even worse for my son this year because my wife and daughter were out of town on his actual birthday Friday because they had an orchestra competition in St louis. But we made the best of it and had a boys night. His grandude, his uncle, my wife's cousin (so I guess his second cousin?), and our oldest friend from grad school in Arizona, who now works with me at St Jude, all went out with him to an old school Italian pizzeria here in Memphis that I remember going to as a kid, and then to putt-putt. We rode go-karts, bumper cars, did a bunch of arcade games (air hockey! Pinball! Those motorcycle race games where you ride the bike!), and played some mini golf. It was super wholesome and super fun and it was great for a 7 year old to have fun with three generations of people. I had a wonderful time, most importantly he did too.

i love this so much. part of it is i've just really been into Dicks Picks Vol. 5 since i was in college, part of it is i can objectively listen to this and understand why it would be abhorrent to many music fans with good taste. it's sloppy, it's plodding, the vocals are technically quite poor. but it's actually not bad at all. it's great. yeah maybe they were doing a little bit of cocaine. what are you perfect? who are you to judge. this song rules and this performance rules. how about you go fuck yourself. i love this song.

This really tickled me, thanks for my first ever sig quote.
so being on the rail is generally unimportant to me. i've done it for various shows and it is super cool and unique, but IMO it's not worth the amount of time you have to put it. like i did this one time for phish, a buddy of mine and I were in the lot early and walked by the line to get in, it was short, doors were in about half an hour, and we said why not, lets get up front for a set. we went in early and stood on the floor for two hours before the show started. and it was cool! but as cool as it was after the first set we fell to the back of the pit.
if an artist you love is coming to town and it's a one time deal and you are like fuck it lets put in the time and get front and center, all power to you have a great show.
what i don't get are people who feel like they have to do this at every single show. it really boggles my noggle. like you are seeing Goose for several or more shows and at every single one of those you spend all day in line then hours just standing at the rail inside the venue? that's time you could be exploring the city you are in, or having a nice meal or some drinks at the bar, or laying around your hotel room watching The Irishman for the third time.

also don't these people pee?
Also these appear to just be two random people lmao? I keep digging and there are a lot of posts about Leslie especially but I cannot pass judgment here since I know better than to trust what anyone says on a forum post. However I did see someone write on the “Goose haters enter” thread on Phantasy tour, and I quote, “There’s a reason that the real talented band sun the scene like the biscuits and panic laugh at goose and their fans”. Unclear if that one was written by Esteban’s illiterate evil twin.

Am I crazy or is there a little Iron Maiden homage in Peach Pit's Alrighty Aphrodite?
the melody of the hook, feels inspired by first half of this
Am I crazy, is this a coincidence, or does anyone else hear what I'm talking about? They open their shows with Slayer so it seems plausible they'd also be into Maiden deep cuts.
So there’s this story about a couple going to 135 shows in a year and that being a world record. I feel like there are probably inforooers that have done this.
Matthew and Tijan Brown went to an astounding 135 shows in 2023—without leaving the DMV. They were about 20 concerts in when they realized they could break a world record. The pair is now—according to the Guinness Book of World Records—officially the couple who has attended the most concerts in one year. The Browns went to 135 shows in 2023, all of them local. All in all, The Browns went to 22 different venues across the DC region, from FedEx Field (for Beyonce) to the 450-capacity Atlantis.

that story seems to be gaining enough momentum I wouldn't be shocked if somebody does 365 by the end of the decade. 135 isn't even 3 shows a week!
yeah tbh in a big enough city there's at least one (or several) venues that have shows every night for little to no cover - if you're going for raw numbers, 135 is child's play.

Yeah, attendance at a 4 day festival alone can net someone 30 shows. We all know people that have volunteered at festivals the entire summer. I’ve put up 100 shows in a year before. I have to imagine with festivals, others here have easily done more.

Ya had a good laugh about this a few weeks ago when it came out. Meant to do a poll and have people guess how many shows they thought the “world record” was.

When I flew out to Red Rocks last year, I was texting (I think) Tronik about meeting up before the show. The whole group got there at like Noon to get in line for posters.
It's my first time in Colorado and I was only out there like 48 hours. I went exploring downtown Denver and then hit up a brewery near my hotel. I'll see you guys at 7.
