never really sure where to post stuff like this since it's not really a grrrrr but since a lot of y'all were checking in with me after i had to skip roo, wanted to let y'all know that my father in law passed last night. it's sad but it's really a blessing. he'd had a stroke a year ago and was kind of OK but it was hard. my wife is an only child and the burden of taking care of him, paying all his bills, buying his groceries, keeping up his house, etc. was all on her. she's been kind of frozen the past year, never wanting to do anything that would take her too far from her dad. he didn't like that, and she didn't like that, and i'm glad she can have some relief. we've both already lost parents and so i know how this works, over the next several months she's gunna have some ups and downs, but right now it's a good thing.
about two weeks ago they had their last coherent conversation. he said he loved her and thanked her for all she'd done for him, specifically thanking her for not sticking a feeding tube in him and leaving him a nursing home. Thankfully he had expressly made it clear he didn't want that both before the stroke and after the stroke, and before this last time when seizures put him in the hospital and eventually hospice he made it clear again.
anyway it was really sweet when so many of y'all reached out with texts and PMs and what not when all this first went down. thanks all for being my friend. can't wait to see you all at bonnaroo 2025 unless the lineup sucks.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Let me preface my query by saying I support damn near every government funded social program you can think of, and I know we can do a much better job of providing adequate support for those most in need. But I was just browsing a local grocery chain's site and something caught my eye that made me wonder, do $35/lb prime filet mignon and $30/lb fresh scallops need to be SNAP/EBT eligible?

Even poor people might have a reason to celebrate with a nice meal every once in a while. It’s still a lot cheaper than going out for a celebratory meal.

Of course, but I sure don't feel like I can afford $30+ a pound meat. I love a good ribeye but I ain't paying anywhere near that for something I have to cook. Just seemed a little odd and excessive, not anything I'm going on a crusade to stop.

You do realize you don’t have to buy meat by the pound, right?

Yes, I've bought some meat before, and I might again some day. It was not $35 per pound, ever. And to be clear, I wasn't judging anyone, but I don't understand how it's consistent to tell people they can't buy certain things (any hot food, vitamins, toothpaste, or wine, for example) with benefit cards but allow them to pay top dollar for Prime beef when Choice would be a reasonable, well, choice, or $45 a pound lobster.

I lost a job right after we got married. We had ebt for a couple of months when I was between jobs. They gave us way too much. So we’d go and get whatever we wanted. We tried all kinds of things we never would have.

What if Sir Mix-a-lot was wrong? Are we really sure Jane Fonda didn't own an Acura NSX, a Honda with the engine behind the driver? I've seen plenty of silly pictures of Civics and the odd CR-X and Del Sol that had been converted to mid-engine, too, and for all I know she might have been into import/compact racing. She's in her 80's now, so we're running out of time to get to the bottom of this mystery.
