dreamingtree, sounds like your dogsitter will be working some overtime while you go to these fests this year
Haha I know! I think Jason is not going to want to go to all of these festivals with me though, so we will see. Or I may just not go and save my money for an SLR camera........

You WILL be going to Hangout though, right?!?! As far as I am concerned, your attendance is non-negotiable.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Haha!! I am going to Hangout if I like the line-up. Either way, I have a deposit on the condo, so even if I don't go, you guys can take it over. I feel like it's too expensive of a trip to make if I don't love the line-up.
A very good friend of mine is in a band called the Instruction. Today he told me that they just got done shooting some video with the same company that does all of the MMJ videos, and will be shooting footage for Forecastle. He asked them if they knew any of the bands that were playing this year, and they said yes but they couldn't say who. However, they assured him that the lineup will be insane... "Christmas in July" was the phrase they used! I'm so pumped!
I think the top 3 will be: DMB (Sunday) Black Keys (Friday) MMJ (Saturday)
I'd like to see MMJ, a top tier electronic act (Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, etc), and then a classic band (they've had DEVO, CAKE, and Smashing Pumpkins in the past)
EDIT: I'd also love to see the Flaming Lips play The Soft Bulletin

These are some possiblities for bands playing alongside MMJ:
M. Ward (new album coming up plus Monsters of Folk) Band of Horses (just toured with them) Wilco (MMJ opened for them, promoting an album) Erykah Badu (cover here and have performed with her in the past) Yo La Tengo (done shows together in the past) Preservation Hall Jazz Band (just played with them) Son Volt (playing with him now)
Other possible acts:
Alabama Shakes The Roots Fitz & The Tantrums Calexico Lampchop Shearwater Phosphorscent
Oh gosh I didn't even think of the Calexico connection. Seeing Going To Acapulco would be heaven. I'll see if I can't get a hold of Joey and ask if it is possible.

Ha. Just got off the phone with a friend who's going to SXSW. I told him if he didn't RSVP for this free show I'd have to shoot him. He wisely obliged. At first I thought this was an event at Forecastle. Hope we're getting both of these.
They gotta get SOMEONE huge to help sell this as a destination festival. Wilco practically sold out a festival on their own last summer, and I wouldn't be surprised if an agreement with AC to headline Forecastle is what lead to the cancellation of Solid Sound this year.

^^^ I really hope you are right. That would be an amazing top three. I just want to avoid WSP. I have to say that I am shocked that Jack White isn't on the Roo lineup.

I think Jack White should be all but confirmed since he is missing from the Roo lineup. There was an initial bogus roo "leak" that ending up being fairly accurate save for Eddie Vedder and Paul Simon. (not the Prince leak, there was one before that). Eddie is touring and Paul has a new documentary film and album coming this spring. I think Friday: Jack White, Saturday: MMJ, Sunday: who knows? Paul, eddie, Neal Young?
