I'm looking into making investments to improve my experience at Roo. So who's got kickass gear that gets through the weekend? I want to hear about coolers that keep for five days, top notch canopies, chairs that have gone on five or more Roos, etc. Anecdotes, recommendations, tips and tricks are all appreciated.
There are several, great pre-existing threads discussing exactly what you're looking for. You just gotta look a little.
There are pre-existing threads for everything. If we never venture into old topics then there is never anything to talk about except who we think might be there and what the long range forecast is. Plus there may be new products out to be discussed that were not talked about in older threads.
I have looked around, and cant seem to find any thread on which Camelbak model is the best. Is there one?
No model is ideal. Just find the one that meets your needs: consider bladder size and whether you need room for storing other stuff.
My Camelbak (2011 Magic model) has a 2L bladder and MANY, MANY storage pockets (read: hidden places to stash stuff!) But guys usually have pockets on their shorts, so it's up to you.
As obvious as this sounds, DO NOT forget campsite chairs!! My first Roo in '08 we had packed everything but chairs. It really REALLY sucked sitting on the grass all weekend at camp
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

There is discussion about it in there somewhere. If I remember correctly, the main idea is to balance weight versus capacity. You can get a high capacity one, but remember water is heavy and you may not want to carry it around all day. You can get a smaller one, but remember that you will have to fill it up more often.
thanks for the cliff notes. So what I gather is Pack > 1L, preferably with lots of little pockets and not too big to carry around all day. Check, check and check.

The water from the mushroom thing does smell but it's just a sulfur smell and when your that thirsty I don't see why ppl complain. I just carried around a water bottle, I wouldn't want a camelpack on my back when I'm already so hot.
The water from the Mushroom shaped things doesn't smell. And you just have to be smart about it.
Five water bottles for the day doesn't seem like enough.
it is when all 5 are frozen. it forces you to drink in moderation since it takes all day to melt. but man is it good when you open one up and a good portion has melted with still a good chunk of ice in it!

No joke, but I own one of these. I saw it at Ross for like 5.99 and I was like "ROO!!!!" I think it's more of a novelty than practical use, but it actually supports me and provides a comfortable squat on the go. I think this appeals to me because I will be able to get close to the stage but still rest in between sets if I want to stay at the same stage for two shows in a row.
Anything that will conveniently give me more stamina to watch more shows works for me.
They give off a lot of light and last all weekend on fresh batteries (and that's with us accidentally leaving them on until the next afternoon most times). One set of 4 will be enough for 2 ez-ups.
I received one of these for xmas. Can't wait to use it at a festival! (not using it as a bed, but as a loveseat or lounger with a slipcover).

Why would you ever want to drink water in moderation at Bonnaroo? The sound of that just makes me nervous.

Word. I drink a ton of water at Bonnaroo and still end up a little dehydrated by the end of the weekend.
I have a 2L day star camelbak with LOTS of storage room in the backpack part. It was heavy, but so worth it. I might actually upgrade to a 3L bladder this year. I could fit my baggies of TP, sunscreen, mister fan, towel to sit on, etc. Plus I could put my flask in a hidden pocket for late nights. When the sun was up, I sipped water pretty constantly. I probably filled it 5 times during the day and only had to wait in a long line once. Only one of the fill stations tasted like eggs to me.

You can get pretty good camelbak's here for somewhat reduced prices: www.rei.com/outlet I personally think it's helpful to have one where you can store some things, like Cliff bars, jerky, sun screen, mister fan, maybe a sheet for sitting in the grass, etc. Having extra capacity in your bladder also helps because it's good, when you start out from your campsite, to fill it with ice so it stays cooler longer. Taking all that with you into Centerooo is a good idea, in my opinion, so you don't have to trek back and forth to your camp, which could be in BFE.
As for "Camelbacks," I prefer the Northface ones. You typically can get them cheap at the North Face outlets. I have one and gifted a few more to others in my Roo Crew. We all love them.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
