this is a false quote. i never said that. I was only thinking about how bassnectar is insanely better than skrillex and judging by how many people showed up for his set last year, has a huge bonnaroo fan base, and should have had a bigger stage, although he didnt.
after readibg all this stuff though, id be happy if he played which, so that i can have an awesome time over at Flying Lotus.
to clear the air, im not a anti-skrillex bigot, im a fan of whomping, he just mostly sucks at making music. IMO
I'm not really sure why so many of you have such a hard time believing that shows such as the one I'm linking to can be a good time for a lot of people. Sure you may not like him, but the 18-25 aged crowd who make up a large portion of Roo will have a great time.

None of the people I know who like Skrillex are douchebags or meatheads and they certainly don't gyrate up against random people. True, I don't hang around with a lot of these type of people (douchebags or meatheads) so I don't know what music they enjoy. Seeing how Skrillex tours around quite often I'm betting that people won't JUST buy a ticket to see him at Roo. From the sound of this and other threads I'll be glad that the people who hate Skrillex won't be at his set. That alone should reduce the amount of douchebags.
Honestly though I never got the mindset of people that can only feel they are cool if they hate on something that is popular. I mean even if you don't like the music you could have enough decency to understand other people do, and just leave it alone and go see something else. Sometimes it seems like some folk have a inferiority complex that can only be helped by hating on something so they can feel better about the less popular something they like.
If you mean "DJs" as in "people who spin records," then you're right. But hell, Bonnaroo has never really had DJs. If you mean "DJs" as in "electronic based artists" then you couldn't be more wrong.
This brought SBTRKT's set to mind. I couldn't believe how much more they did than "DJ".
What would you call Sasha, Sasha and Digweed, MSTRKRFT, Tiesto, DJ Shadow, Paul Oakenfold, Deadmau5, etc., and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
The same thing I'd call SBTRKT, Major Lazer, Flying Lotus? When I hear "DJ" I'm thinking DJ Logic, Mix Master Mike, or some other dude up there with turntables making cuts. I don't think a single artist you named (save for DJ Shadow) uses turntables at all. They're all up there pushing buttons just like everyone else.

Now you're getting turntablism mixed in with DJing. You don't have to be scratching vinyl to be a DJ imo.
Saying someone like Sasha, John Digweed, or Paul Oakenfold isn't a dj.
I look at it less literally. "Disc Jockey" to me means 'jockeying' (or going back and forth) between songs, not actually jockeying vinyl records.
Do appreciate a DJ that actually uses Vinyl anymore though. Does DJ Shadow even do that anymore? Kind of doubt it.
Deadmau5 though is not a DJ and never was. He's a live electronic musician. WTH is the difference you ask? Well, yes they are all up there "pressing buttons". You just gotta know what kind of buttons they are pressing.

some of my friends love skrillex, i hate him. can't wait to laugh at them for whatever awesome act they're going to miss for skrillex. i just really don't understand the appeal of dubstep.

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
