There's no way I'm reading through all of this, but Oakenfold played in a tent. Is it safe to say he is bigger than Skrillex? Of course they did have all 3 of the top DJs playing at the same time which balanced out the crowd well. I don't see them doing that again. I would be really happy if Skrilla was on the Which and FlyLo and SBTRKT were back to back in a tent opposite of him.

I don't quite understand all the hate for Skrillex suddenly around here. I guess the masses always needs to find some big act to throw hatred at every year.
Yes, it could be that "the masses" are driven by a primordial need to HATE. Or, it could be that Skrillex makes terrible brostep which is basically a bastardized, dumbed down and more aggressive form of dubstep which in turn has found widespread appeal with the meathead set. Not all hate is unfounded - Skrillex is terrible, his fanbase is composed of loads of ignorant teens in dayglo bodypaint and date-rapey college bros, and I hope he loses a ton of money gambling on college basketball and has his thumbs broken by his bookie.
Usually I'm the last one to say "so and so act will ruin Bonnaroo because their fan base is so incredibly douchey," but I'm close to that point with Skrillex. The only saving grace is that hopefully all the wobblewobblewobblewaitforthedropherecomesthedropsickbassdropbroWHOMPWHOMPWHOMP will clear out plenty of space at the good acts on the night in question.
This is probably the greatest post I've ever seen on here.

its not even really dubstep. bastardized is a good way of putting it. but when putting it out there about his fan base...is he any different from bassnectar? as far as his fan-base diluting any shred of talent and respect.

never got the hate people have for acts playing bonnaroo. there's 2 stages and 3+ tents. see something else. you don't like dubstep we get it. or you only like dubstep that hasn't gotten popular. fine. other people enjoy it. be happy that they're happy. then go do whatever makes you happy.

This wouldn't bother me at all. Would much rather see my favorite late night in a tent and him being on the which would provide a large void of other people in the tents which is ideal for me

You're just making a statement right? Raconteurs fans don't really like Skrillex, RIGHT? plz?

I like how the other tread started out all organized and nice. Then, it got rocky and tempo started to build soon followed by noncoherent nonsense. Then it was shut down due to crappyness.
Much like a skrillex song on my computer... (just on youtube)
What would you call Sasha, Sasha and Digweed, MSTRKRFT, Tiesto, DJ Shadow, Paul Oakenfold, Deadmau5, etc., and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
The same thing I'd call SBTRKT, Major Lazer, Flying Lotus? When I hear "DJ" I'm thinking DJ Logic, Mix Master Mike, or some other dude up there with turntables making cuts. I don't think a single artist you named (save for DJ Shadow) uses turntables at all. They're all up there pushing buttons just like everyone else.
So your examples of a real DJ is Mix Master Mike and DJ Logic, but you say Bonnaroo has never had a real DJ. Hate to break it to you, but both have been to Bonnaroo in recent years. I will agree Skrillex and all these button pushers are way overhyped for what they actually do.
After last years sound problems at Which, Skrillex can have it. We just have to make sure he gets Buffalo Springfields speakers so there's no sound bleed to the tents

Okay, let me rephrase. Bonnaroo hasn't had a focus on real DJs in years. Yes, in 2003 they had a ton, and yes, in 2004 they had the X-ecutioners, and 5 or 6 years ago they had guys like Cut Chemist or DJ Shadow, yes, every year they have a few guys spinning in the Silent Disco, but when was the last time a real "DJ" played a tent or a stage in a real slot at Bonnaroo? I'm pretty sure it was 2004 with the X-ecutioners - the rest have been EDM-style button pushing types like Sasha, Digweed, Oakenfold, Tiesto, Girl Talk, PRetty Lights, Bassnectar, etc.
It's the same as if saying that Bonnaroo doesn't focus on jambands. It's true, even if it didn't use to be.
DJ Shadow had a pretty spectacular show in 2007. One of my favorite latenights ever. of any festival.
