Got in line at 11:30 Wendsday did not get out of the car and set up until 8:00 a.m.ish? I know it was horrible. Maybe Scrog or Krunchykat can shed some more light on this I was in Krunchykat's truck and I know Scrog was in a similar as far as line entry time and set up. They routed us through the Tullahoma exit in through the back way I thought we were going to get there quick. I was like oh going in the back way! Nice never been in that route left through that route once in 05. In all of my seven years of attending I have never been diverted in through that route and I was like this will go fast fuck no! Maybe around 10 hours? I dont know I got out of vehicle set up camp and started in on the party favors! I had to come back to camp and collapse before Beat Antique took stage. I had to go to brunch the next day and wanted to get some sort of sleep while it was cool because we all know you get no sleep the night you pack and drive down. "Oh I forgot _______" better go to China-Mart!"

Got to exit 111 about 9pm on Wednesday night. Exit 111 was closed though and we were told to go to another exit further down. We got off at that exit and get led to a country road off the exit that parallels I-24 all the way to Bushy Branch Rd. Got to our campsite after only waiting about 40 minutes, and now I know to go this way every year from now on.

Seriously this thread needs to be destroyed. It's not gonna be a short wait if you advertise the secret!

Didn't say which exit I went to did I? besides I don't find it much of a secret when Bonnaroo was directing literally hundreds of cars to that route.
I went in through Asbury Road. We arrived around 10:15 am and were set up camp by noon on Thursday morning. Although, we did end up having a 30 minute walk to the arch from our camp site.

Just to remind you. The population of this board is a very tiny percentage of the people who go to Roo every year. The route has been put up here before, and it hasn't gone to hell yet. I am on here, and i don't even use it because I don't know the roads well enough to try it at night.

I did it at night. Sketchy through some back roads but it cleared up. Worth it with my camp adrien prime time spot.
luvaluva - which road/gate did you enter through and where did you end up camping? We got stuck pretty far away and we arrived at the same time that you did. I would love to be a little closer this year.

It happens like that sometimes. In '09, I was part of an 11 car caravan. They changed the exit they were directing people to 3 cars into the caravan. The first 3 cars has a 2 minute walk to Centeroo. The last 8 had a 15 minute walk and didn't get to their spot until 45 minutes after the first 3.
Thanks Dave......I literally couldnt get further away than I was last year, so I guess I have nothing to lose this year. Unless they stick us in one of the sites beside the lighting thats operated by those giant generators...uuuuggghhhhh *cringe*
basically the "secret awesome backroad" is ANY route OTHER than waiting in the line on the interstate. avoid that and you're good. you're welcome.
This is true. The last two years we were driving down I-24 and saw the ENORMOUS line on the highway, and it was only about 8PM on Wednesday night both times. The past two years I've used all back roads to get in to Roo. There's a pro and a con for doing this. The pro is that in '10 I was stopped/waited 30 minutes to get in and in '11 I literally waited maybe 2 minutes in line. HOWEVER, in '10 I was parked in Pod 1 (BFE), and this past year I was parked in Pod 11 (Uber-BFE). This is why I'm doing Tent Only this year (Camp Inforoo). And in case anyone is wondering, I didn't "cut" anybody in any of the lines. I simply decided to exit I-24 a few exits down from Manchester and navigate on my own from there.
If you just google map the Farm, you can easily plot a few different ways to get in line without using I-24.
We arrived Wednesday around 8 or 9 PM and we had to wait for, I think like 6 or 7 hours. We ended up going to sleep around 5 AM, and we got a place right next to the entrance (which was like a 40 minute walk to Centeroo, we were in Camp Griswald I think). Granted, the waiting line was one of the funniest parts of the whole weekend. Just enjoy it, it's part of the experience.

last year we left murfreesboro instead leaving from nashville. we left at about 3:30pm and got there around 4. We were in line for about and hour. We turned onto Brushy Branch around 5ish. We were in and set up around the same time the gates were SUPPOSE to pen that day. It's always best to go early. And you more than likely get put in campground 1. which is incredibly chill.
I didn't arrive from Raleigh, NC last year until Thursday around 3pm, and I believe we left around 12 hours before and had two or three stops. Got stuck on a horrible backroad that put my campmates and I in the hell that was POD 11. That's just too far fer me! But I had friends in line fer over eight hours last year comin' in Wednesday night, others only in line fer a few hours tops. It's almost always a bit of a crap shoot where you'll end up bein' parked dependin' on which exit or which direction you're comin' from!

I still get the warm fuzzies thinking about my first year in line. As the wait went into the realm of hours, people broke down one by one and bolted from their cars to pee at the tree line. Each person that went got a rousing cheer from all the rest of the people in line. My friend, who was surprisingly embarassed by this, decided he would open the passenger door and stand there using it as a guard. Of course, the line started moving as soon as he started peeing. He yelled at me to wait, but I kept inching forward causing him to have to pee and shuffle down the road to stay with my car. Good times.
I left Thursday morning and we ended up getting to Manchester around 1-2pm. A friend in our group knew a back way, so we literally just drive right in. The bad thing was we were stuck in BFE.
Seriously! Don't tell everyone or we won't have those 20 minute waits anymore
Too late, secret is out in a BIG way! I've been the last 4 yrs and taken the "short cut" the last 3. Since they announced gates opening Wednesday this year, we decided to leave the Walmart around 12am Thursday morn to get a good spot (instead of the usual 8-9am) and the back way(s) were deadlocked traffic from every direction! Being the shifty driver I am ;D, managed to arrive in under 2hrs. Every other year was between 40min-1.5hrs!!

I left western KY last year early wednesday morning and got to that winery on Bushy Branch around 10:00 am and chillaxed there and mingled until the gates opened and drove right on in! Got stuck at POD 1 though. that was horrible.
I got there on Thursday afternoon (3pm-ish). There was no line at all, every other year, I've waited at least an hour or two, but last year I just drove right up to the booths. From what I heard from others, the traffic was really bad Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but it seems like the early gates helped those of us who didn't show until Thursday afternoon, because everyone was already in.

Not sure what you mean by "shifty"... I mean it's a line of traffic, you don't need to be too skilled to maneuver through it...unless this is internet speak for "I cut in line...a lot." which in that case, Instant Karma's gonna get you...

All I have to say is that those backroads are a blessing and a curse all at the same time... 3 years ago we got lucky and we didnt know where we were going since it was our first time and tried to get off at an exit but a cop yelled at us and instead ended up accidentally cutting a ton of people and got in pretty quick. Didnt mean to cut but the cops werent letting us go. Wait was probably an hour. Next year we waited it out as well and once again got a good spot going on the main highway way. Last year though none of us knew at the time that the gates were opening up on Wed and we actually got a hotel for wed into thursday which caused all sorts of problems. We ended up ditching the hotel at about 2am to head in and the highway was a mess... we used google maps to determine we were in a 17 mile line to get in and none of us were ready for that so we used google maps and took the side roads and we were all rejoicing at how amazing it was that nobody was going this way especially since cops were directing you to go that way! We ended up at the back entrance and still ended up waiting about 3 hours and finally got in when the sun was coming up. Then it hit us, even though we cut all that waiting out we realized we had the absolute worst location possible... it was a nightmare walking back and forth from the last camp site, it didnt even have any showers anywhere near it or other stuff. I would rather wait in a long line and get a great spot again over getting in early. But like someone else said I have no idea how they fill each spot up! Seems like it is just luck of the draw. I have even heard stories from a lot of people last year that said the earlier you were the further you were placed. Im not really sure what to do this year aside from just going with it.

From all the reading I think that is the answer, just go with it. It's all the luck of the draw where you will be unless you pay for VIP. My main thought is get some rest when you can. Starting out exhaused is not a good plan. Relax in the line soon you will be in and it will all be good.
