Last year was our first Roo and we were in Pod 11, all the way up in Cleveland Brown so we have nothing to compare it too but I thought it was a blessing in disguise. Yes, it was a hike but we splurged on the taxi's to and from every day. But it was quiet, our neighbors were great, we had that road right there with houses and a place to go for cheap showers with no lines and the people sold ice cheaper than the Roo ice trucks. We also got in and out quickly and didn't have to deal with all the dust - it never reached us out there.
The only negative was spending an extra $20 a day for a ride to and from Centeroo but it was worth it imo.

I was in POD 11 last year and I would curse it every night when we were walking back to out site, but I did love it for all of the reasons you mentioned above! It was also great for people watching when walking into Centeroo...we called it "the 3 beer walk". I would rather it if I was a little closer this year, but it really doesnt matter that much to me...

Ahh I made many "3-Beer walks" from Pod 11 as well. I was in Pod 1 in 2010 and Pod 11 in 2011. I don't really see the difference. Both years the walk to centeroo took about 30 minutes. I'm one of the few that's perfectly fine with long walks/paying for taxis if it means my crew didn't have to wait in the car line for hours on end. I am contemplating a move to tent only this year, though.

You know you're gettin' old when you just can't drink three beers from POD 11 to Centeroo. Two was my limit. Although I usually had two before I left camp.
Also POD 1 is closer to Centeroo, especially Fri-Sun when they have the What Stage VIP entrance/exit open.
Got there Wed afternoon and at the advice of a gas station attendant got diverted down a random back road that took us basically right in. Literally didn't wait, at all. The only time we stopped was to get the RV inspected. It was great.

Where did you end up camping?
wondering this as well. this will be my first 'roo and i'm planning on arriving late afternoon/early evening (making a 12 hour drive from PA).
I will all the people who say they got there on wednesday and didnt camp until thursday morning I would say we got off at 111(11pm) and hit the brakes the whole way set up camp while the sun was rising.

My general impression is that arriving on Wednesday night means waiting in line longer but getting a better camp spot and coming in on Thursday means less of a wait but worse spot. Anyone wanna confirm/deny this?

I would disagree with that statement. The first people who come in fill up BFE which for many people is not an ideal spot, but you can get a legit spot. I think some people who came in Thursday last year ended up in Super BFE which by all accounts is terribad.
I know this isn't really traffice related, but didn't feel it needed an entire thread (sorry if it does)..but how were the searches last year both in arriving on thr farm and going into Centeroo? I wasn't able to attend last year (but did in 07, 08, 09, and 10) but heard that they were searching more thoroughly, especially going into Centeroo and weren't even allowing camel backs that had liquid in them...so how was it last year?
11/29: Judas Priest 12/31: Cake 2/4: Tool 4/21: Van Halen 5/17: Styx, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent 6/7-6/10: Bonnaroo 6/11: Yankess vs Braves 6/21: Iron Maiden 7/10: Roger Waters
Were people allowed to fill up tent only as soon as the gates opened Wednesday? In 2010, I was pretty ticked to have to wait in line a few hours in BFE before they opened up the gate to tent only.

If I remember correctly, you were allowed to head to TO as soon as the gates opened Wednesday night.

I didn't notice any significant difference in searches this year. Given that, you always have to remember there is a luck of the draw involved with such things. There's always some lax security and some harsh security.

as annoying as being in BFE sounds like, i'd rather get in there wednesday night (line permitting) and get set up and get some rest before the festival really begins. long walks are annoying but it's just something you might have to live with. and there's always the taxis

It depends on how you do Roo. Some people like to make a few trips back to camp throughout the day which is a pain in BFE.

Yeah parkin' is basically a crapshoot. There are numerous factors involved, but chances are if you are in the first several thousand to arrive you will be out in POD 1 BFE, the 007 camps. However like maynardave mentioned it is so much better than Super BFE POD 11.

Again, as annoyin' as BFE might be, it is far and above better than Super BFE. The walkin' distance actually isn't too bad Fri-Sun when they have the VIP What Stage entrance open! But there is no shortcut from POD 11. Just a long, long, long walk.

I was led to the back entrance by a police brigade in 2007. We were still a couple hrs early before the gate opened, so we had a little wait. After it started moving though, we were inside in probs 30 mins. Still left us out in BFE.
Last year, I met my campmates in Murfreesboro at about 10 pm Wed, we hit Manchester by 10:30 pm, and got in line on Hwy 41.
At around 10:00 am, we got to the entry gate and we were setting up camp by 11:00 am (pod 11 if I remember...good walk)....worn out from sitting in line all night...
Music and intoxicants all day, and I thought I was having heat stroke by 10:00 pm...slowed down, crawled back to camp, slept like a log, and was good to go when the sun drove me out of the tent the next morning.
