Is anyone going to the Great Giveback? Just saw that it's being held in Charleston this year.
I wish! I've always wanted to see them at a show closer to their hometown. It always seems that they play all my favorites or special surprises at those shows more than they have at the shows I've been to (but I have never been disappointed by an Avett show yet so I have no complaints!) 2014 will be my first roo but I'm really hoping the Avetts are there, especially with the Magpie and the Dandelion coming out this fall. They missed out on any of the huge fests (besides Governor's Ball) on The Carpenter tour and I feel like besides Newport Folk Fest Bonnaroo is the fest that matches their vibe the most. I could never really see them playing a Lolla or 'Chella set. There's also something comforting about seeing the band I've seen live the most while I'm half way across the country at a massive music festival for the first time, so I'm hopeful! Pretty much every person I've met at an Avett show has been awesome, I even have "friends" that I've only met/see at Avett shows but we always make sure we say hi and catch up a bit. It seems so much like the stories I hear about people at roo so that makes me really excited to join this community too!
87 days til my next confirmed Avett show, can't wait!
Rumors are the NYE show will be at the TWC in Charlotte. I guess Widespread is usually there on NYE but they'll be in Atlanta this year which will leave the bigger colosseum for TAB. The announcement should be any time. Last year it was about a week before my birthday which is Sept 20th.
I'd like to open this up for discussion. I'd like to see the Avett Brothers again at Bonnaroo, but I have a feeling that they won't play there this year. Depending on the success of the newest album (and possibly the next album), does anyone think that the Avett Brothers are a headlining band at Bonnaroo in a few (3-4) years? They aren't there yet, but I feel like they are getting close to being a Sunday headliner. Just curious to see what people think of this.

If Mumford and Sons can headline then The Avett Brothers should be able to headline.....that being said right now I could see The Avett Brothers in like a Wilco or Bjork spot, playing at sunset right before a headliner....if it were up to me The Avett Brothers would be a headliner!

Being a huge Avett fan and having seen them in a few different types of venues I can not agree with your logic that if Mumford can headline so can Avett's. Should they, yes, their music is a million times better then Mumfords, but Mumfords has many more fans and have a huge mainstream following that the Avett's lack. There are tons of Mumford fans that have never heard of the Avett Brothers and the opposite is not true. They can't pull the same size crowds.
Now, to the original question, could they headline in 4-5 years...i hope so.

Is it wrong that I don't want to see them headline and achieve that Mumford success? I hate that I've turned into one of those greedy hipsters that wants to keep them for myself but I just love them so, so much that I am scared of what's going to happen if they get that big. It's already hard to get good seats at shows and they are just getting bigger and bigger. It's not that they don't deserve it because they definitely do I just don't want to lose that connection I have with their music.
As for the Fallon skit, I can't begin to tell you how much I loved it. Coming from a former headbanger and current Avett nut this was like a dream come true merging my two worlds. I would pay so much to have that album for real!

I spy a fellow r/theavettbrothers redditor? I swear I read almost the same comment on a thread there. I've been able to get really good seats at all of their shows but I have some absurd concert seating luck that I know will run out on me when I want it the most. I know what you mean though. I hate that they keep growing out of venues that I love seeing shows at and playing smaller arena type venues, but it makes me so happy when I meet someone new who loves the Avetts. And I'm so glad that people are finally realizing who they are. Seeing them behind bands like MumSons and The Lumineers when the Avetts have 5 or 6 albums of great stuff on these bands made me a little sad for them.
But as someone who was raised on Iron Maiden, Sabbath and Metallica- my entire family who all love the Avetts were giddy over that skit.
Haha no I'm not on Reddit. I've never heard of that forum but I'll check it out. I was on their website discussion board for awhile but when they redid it we all went over to a FB group.

Yeah we'll be at the Pittsburgh one. They were great together at Red Rocks. One of the highlights was they did Pallet on the Floor into Wild Horses together at the end of night 2.
Hate to be that guy, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the new album. I am sure the songs will be much better live, but this album can't compare to some of the other releases this past month.

I thought the new songs that were played live at FreeFest were fantastic live. I noticed that they weren't nearly as good on the album. But I still like the album; especially a lot more than the Carpenter.
I just don't understand why the Avetts wouldn't mix some uptempo songs in with the ballads. A good album has changes of pace.

Exactly! They just needed to balance those ballads out.
