A top current act of mine. So glad they'll be on the farm. Will be a fantastic show at Roo.
From Wiki:
The Avett Brothers are a folk rock band from Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. The band is made up of two brothers, Scott Avett and Seth Avett, who play the banjo and guitar respectively, and Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. Joe Kwon, cello, and Jacob Edwards, drums, are touring members of the band, with Kwon featured on recordings from 2007's Emotionalism to present.
Following on from Seth and Scott's former rock band Nemo, the Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a sound described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the "heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones."
A great, great choice. I've seen them 4 times now which is the only reason they are not an absolute lock as far as bands to see.
Agreed. I've seen them 3 times in the past 2 years. Pending any gut wrenching conflicts I'll be there again. Don't they have a new album coming out soon?

Rather than piss on the lukewarm reviews in the "Let us know about you've seen" thread, I will stay positive and post my love in this thread. Think the boys get the big stage in 2012. In 2006 I think they were in the Troo Music Lounge while Radiohead was playing (maybe a partial overlap). Don't think they will conflict this year.

Anyone that has "lukewarm" reviews is insane. I've never been to one of their shows and not seen everyone around me clapping, slappin their knees, stompin, and singin along. Their shows are simply a blast and they make it so apparent how much they enjoy what they're doing and how much they appreciate their fans. Did anybody catch them at Rupp Arena back in October? simply an incredible show.
I tell my husband all the time if I ever disappear before he calls missing persons he should check the Avett's tour schedule. Much more likely where I'll be. I've been waiting for them back around here since last year.
We have seen the Avett's at least a dozen times the first being in the Troo Music Lounge in 2006, most recent was last fall at the PNC Arts center in New Jersey and sadly I can say it was one of the worst performances of all on them. With the addition of drums and more members of the band I think that has taken away form form their original sound.
With fingers crossed we will of course go see them.

I saw them at Rupp and incredible would be a perfect description. We also saw them on New Years in Greenville and it was BY FAR my favorite AB's show. I had chills several times during the show, I would imagine a What stage show would be similar to their NYE shows.
Would there be anything more perfect than Avetts>Phish Sunday night? Please God let that happen.
Is it The "Eh"-vett Brothers or The "Ah"-vett Brothers?
It's a long "A." Ay-Vet Brothers!
They grew up fifteen minutes from me in rural North Carolina. One of my high school teachers taught them, saying Scott was a "phenomenal writer." Another teacher of mine was a classmate, and another dated Seth! It's a small area, everyone knows everyone. Their dad still lives in the area, I believe.

Jim Avett plays the area too. He played the Muse 2 weeks ago and Bonnie, Scott and Seth joined him on stage. I also met him in the parking lot before the Avetts show in Charlotte last year and gave him a home brewed beer. Good Stuff.
