Quacker summed it up above. We got a deputy dog wanna be at the toll booth who took great pleasure in the whole ordeal which lasted 1-2 hours in the blazing afternoon sun without water or sunscreen.
Wanna be and his toll booth posse had to look really really really hard for the first offense - and after that almost nothing was left untouched, unpacked, completely ransacked.
Add about $400 to the total mentioned for all the booze. There was insistence that the rule was one case of beer - OR one handle per person - choose what to keep. I think it was after the careless find that wanna be said never mind - we are taking it All because someone is lying to us.
7 people - they left one case of beer in the cooler and overlooked 1 handle of captain. It definitely left a bad taste for a while. Quacker and I just decided a week before the line up that we will be back for 2012. But it will just be he and i this year. No careless carriers, no drama.
That really sucks, I've always been skeptical of giving someone a lift for that exact reason. I'm no saint but at least I know what my risk is. I'm always worried someone will lie, piss off the man, and then I'll end up on the wrong end of deputy dog's "how dare you lie to me" search. I'm glad you guys decided to come back though, hopefully lightening doesn't strike twice.
Oh it wont... We are leaving our young adult children and their friends behind this year.
Outside of Roo - the last two hours (we usually go in the back roads) we saw several cars full of young adults on the side of the road with multiple local officers and all of their Roo belongings outside of the car spread around like road trash.
I know it makes me an old mother hen but the moral of the story is the states you are traveling through to get to Roo, especially TN have laws, and Bonnaroo posts all of its rules up front. If you are knowingly going to violate those laws/rules, plan to get caught, plan to loose whatever you have that you should not, and plan to pay fines. And then when/if none of this happens, Happier Rooing!!
I'm actually kinda expecting to get pulled over and searched this year. I now have Colorado license plates and what's legal in Colorado? Corn. I'm just worried cause my wife and I don't do the stuff and we are prolly gonna get searched and they won't find jack-diddly-squat. I hope it doesn't happen cause I really am gonna hate having to re-assemble the car if it get's torn apart

That reminds me. I was hanging out over at the Get Satisfaction, and somebody asked about the dumping your Camelbak rule. The official rep stated that they had revised their policy for this year, and that people would be able to bring in full Camelbaks to Centeroo this year. She said that they would be subjected to a "sniff test" to make sure it was water and not alcohol. I hope they do go through with this and let people in with full Camelbaks. It would certainly help in the middle of the day.
How DO people get in with glowsticks for late night? I've never seen a successful attempt going in to Centeroo, but often see people walking around Centeroo covered in them. It's some sort of witchcraft!
I fill the entire camelbak. I fit about 150 glowsticks inside the pouch where your water goes. Load them into my pockets, fill up the Camelbak with sulfur water, go hand out glowsticks to the hunnies.
I would recommend not discussing how we sneak things in. You never know who is reading this board. If you are going to discuss it just PM each other
Do you mean the searches at the gates into Centeroo? Everyone gets searched, but the severity of which depends on the security person. There is also a certain amount of bias that will go into it based of what you look like. I never get searched because I am the most legit looking guy at Bonnaroo.
Probably. Abra just remarked on it last year after I got my third search of the festival where the security person just nodded at me and told me to have a good day without even touching me.

I was more just pulling your chain. I agree; the wooks walking through the gate looking like they do and being loud and obnoxious tend to get checked a bit more thoroughly than I do.
On a seperate note, don't try to get an umbrella into Centeroo. I tried to take one in in 2007, they said no. I was late for a show so I ended up just having to toss it at the gate.

I've never had problems being searched; into Roo or going into Centeroo. Just don't be stupid. The only thing I was concerned about last year were my kerosene lanterns but I kept them wrapped up in blankets under everything else.

Like nate and lawngnome said, it really comes down to who is dumb. You drive up with a huge pot leaf painted on your car? You're gonna get searched hard. You have a bunch of glass visible in your car? You're gonna get searched hard. You walk up to Centeroo pre-drunk with a camelbak that clangs? You're gonna get searched hard. You act like a jerk to security? You're gonna get searched hard.

doesnt this belong in the sex at bonnaroo thread as well?

Only if you get pulled aside to the "enhanced security pat-down" tent next to the Centeroo gate.

In 6 years I have never been searched thoroughly.....*knock on wood* I'm pretty sure last year was the first year they even opened my back hatch, at which point the guard found my cakepops, became promptly distracted and that was the end of my search.
It never matters, I'm never bringing in anything I shouldn't it's just one of those "I want to be at camp right now" kind of things.
The guys searching vehicles have always been fantastic, I usually enjoy talking with them. Now mind you I am the least sketchy looking person on the face of the planet, I exude rainbows in fact, but I have traveled with some pretty sketchy looking people *cough cough*DanROO"cough* There really is some truth to not acting like a jerk and you won't be treated like a jerk...usually.

Wish I was so lucky I do not have problems getting into centeroo. But being hassled by the cops asking why I have allergy medicine and tylenol while I am being randomed by dogs just coming on to the farm is BS. Like they think I am going to start up a meth lab while I sit at camp.

Never ever consent to having your car searched regardless if you have something on you or not. Other than that, have the females take whatever into centeroo and on the way up don't paint your car up with Bonnaroo all over it.
If you have out of state tags in Tennessee during Bonnaroo week you are prime prey for getting pulled over. Even out of county can't save you the closer you get. Best advice is do the speed limit or buy a radar detector(a good one too, not some POS), Escorts are awesome. I've had my 8500 for 6 years no problems. My detector almost didn't save me 2 years ago. All of a sudden it just goes from normal to full force getting popped. I slammed on my brakes though and if you get on them fast enough they can't pull you over because they have to lock your speed just like a jet fighter locking on to another one. It was a brand new Ford F-150 that popped me though. He turned it on and then turned it off when I was below speed then blew by me doing 90 hitting every car in front of me. To the aforementioned post about the highways. Green signs are for miles away from a city here. Speed limit signs are white. Just in case anyone is wondering state law is 55 MPH on any primary or secondary(i.e. state and federal hwys) unless otherwise posted.

...& have me take the wrap?? I don't think so! Lol

You failed to mention consent once you are coming on to the farm. I was greeted by the Coffee County Sheriff's Welcome Committee in 2010. They asked to see our tickets, then told us that we did not have to submit to a search, but non-compliance would result in them confiscating our tickets. My point is that the rules change a little once you are on the property.
On a seperate note, I had heard horror stories about the dreaded DTF searched from previous years. The CCSD guys were super nice and respectful of our things. Their search was much more thorough than the Bonnaroo security staff, but they didn't treat us like criminals.
Got pulled over on the way home in 2010 30 mins away from roo my brother was drivin sheriff asked about corn and whatever my bro handed it over with a piece, took us out the car searched, dog showed up and searched with him then he smashed everything said thank you for being honest have a good day..... Never been so scared in my life. They'll get ya on the way home too
just out of curiousity, how much of a bias to the cops in the area have? being of non-white descent, i have had too many close encounters with hillbilly cops who think i am arabic which would clearly make me a terrorist, because all arabic people are born terrorists of course (sarcasm, if you couldnt tell). so i was wondering how i should handle the popos if i do get pulled over by one. i am always courteous and never act like a smartass. i do not plan on bringing corn with me, i will be sending it through someone else or will just buy it at the farm. but we will have alcohol in the vehicle (everyone is 24+), maybe some empty cans (not from drinking on the highway, but leftover from the campsite if we couldn't find a recycling bin) but they will be out of sight just in case. i just feel that an RV filled with 4 brown guys is too much of a tempting target for an overzealous cop. even though I know i have nothing to worry about, it just sickens me how much racism there is in the world, especially in law enforcement. sorry if this turned out into more of a rant than an actual plea for help, but i just would like to know the most effective way for handling the cops down south.

Just be courteous. Make them aware there is nothing illegal taking place and stand your ground. Let them in on your knowledge of federal laws and that you don't intend on giving consent to search the vehicle. Unless you have no problem with them searching you, you can let them know you don't mind as well. Once you get to Roo though, it's a different ball game. Because its on private property, they cannot knowingly allow anyone in with illegal wares. It goes against the right to assemble peacefully. They have every right to tear your shit apart and take your stuff or you away. Just keep a cool head, don't be stupid and try not to look the part of trouble causers and you should be dandy.
