I'll be sure to keep my eye out for Whales Tale. I'm a huge fan of their Grey Lady .
And to R- yea, they don't sell Yuengling in New England. I forget the reasoning.
First time Roo'er, hence the question to the more seasoned vets - trading rare craft beers from around the country has been big in the craft beer community for a while now, so does anyone know if there is a segment of the population interested in trading while at Roo?
With people coming from all around the country, it seems like a great place to make trades for rare brews, but the restriction of not being able to bring glass into the festival looks like it might all but eliminate the possibility of making something like this a reality.
We will be staying at the KOA Manchester for the weekend so trading would be more feasible for us (and within the rules of where we are staying). Any thoughts? Thanks!
There is a microbrew tent, but not being able to bring a growler or 12 oz bottles of microbrew is a killer. I have heard some folks have snuck in a keg, but I wouldn't want to try it. At this time, I'm thinking it will be can only. But there are some decent canned beers out there, pale ales, ipa's, all kinds of different brew.
Generally when I'm at a concert like that, I'm drinking fine Kentucky Bourbon, and hydrating with lemonade. I will be visitng the craft beer tent quite often, but it really sucks for those who enjoy good beer, that we can't bring bottles. I know I'd respect cleaning up the glass, but I know many wouldn't.

Sixpoint comes in 16oz so drink them with a purpose in that TN heat.
Thanks for the heads up. I've actually never filed a growler as they just became legal in alabama recently. Looks like that will be my Wednesday night drink.

And how does anywhere not have Yuengling? I've never had a problem finding it, in any state in the southeast.

There are some towns and some places that don't know beer, and won't sell it. It isn't the state though, its the distributors in the area.
I remember going to a liquor store in rural Kentucky and asked for Samuel Adams. No shit, the guy said, "we don't sell that foreign crap beer here.". I laughed my ass off. What a dumb ass.

I know last year I brought a mini keg of Bells Summer Seasonal Beer and it was great. I also brought some of the hell or high watermelon beer from 21st amendment brewery.
Also, seeing Sam Adams mentioned - they are working on canning some of their beers. Almost certainly not in time for 'Roo, but definitely in time for Roo 2014 >_>
Good beer in a can? Anyone heading through the Asheville, NC area should stop and look for this- Shiva IPA... brewed by Asheville Brewing Co. Love this stuff.
Oh man I love that place. Only been to Asheville once and staying in a hostel across the parking lot from the brewing company. After the concert I stumbled (literally) over there and stayed until the place closed talking to the bar tender/owner(?). Good people good beer.

It's all a matter of how big distribution is. My best friend was called out like the story above when we were in a NYC bar. He kept asking for Narragansett instead of PBR. The bar tender stopped what he was doing and said "Have we ever sold narragansett outside of that shithole RI?" . He waited for the crowd response, and threw my friends $10 back at him. It was amazing. 'Gansett is pretty gross. But I like their Summer Ale as a cheaper alternative to Sam Adams.
1.) You can't get Yuengling in KY either. 2.) As a former northerner, I love Yuengling.

You must have an overlap with a TN beer distributor. Yuengling hasn't inked any deals with distributors in KY. Just Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Sweet, I'll be in Asheville two days prior to Roo and will definitely look for it. I've got a good craft beer scene in philly and got excited when I saw the thread until I realised most of the crafts I cant get my hands on dont come in cans (Blind Pig, Pliny the Elder...). Still spoiled to the point of beer snobbery.

Oak Grove is on the TN line, TN distributors run there.. Blackhorse in Clarksville, TN looks like a winner for me to bring..The Barnstormer Red is awesome there, and they are more than happy to fill my stainless steel growler..Just gotta get over there and get it filled for erm...quality assurance .

The brown has been my go to after ATP in NYC last year. Good stuff that Six Point.
I don't remember you having that last year or did I get a 4 pack of it? I love Resin, Bengali Tiger, and Sweet Action by them.
On another note, try not get too crazy with the kind of beer you bring to roo. I have a friend that brought in all different kinds of can beers including some stouts. He gets an A for covering his basis, but there was so many of them left by the last day that he had to take them home and give away some as well.

If anyone is coming from Colorado, I would love a 12 pack of Oscar Blues Old Chubb. I can bring some KC area based craft brew like Tallgrass or Mother's. Boulevard is obviously our best but you can get that anywhere now.
