First time Roo'er, hence the question to the more seasoned vets - trading rare craft beers from around the country has been big in the craft beer community for a while now, so does anyone know if there is a segment of the population interested in trading while at Roo?
With people coming from all around the country, it seems like a great place to make trades for rare brews, but the restriction of not being able to bring glass into the festival looks like it might all but eliminate the possibility of making something like this a reality.
We will be staying at the KOA Manchester for the weekend so trading would be more feasible for us (and within the rules of where we are staying). Any thoughts? Thanks!
You can't bring glass on site, period. Because of that, I don't think there will be many people around with craft beers to trade. You can probably find people who will do like a Bud/Miller swap, but beyond that I don't think there will be much beer variety. Magic Hat does offer select brews in cans but I haven't found much else.

Canning Line Expansion Also Allows for New 16-ounce Tallboys Ft. Collins, CO, March 6, 2012 –
New Belgium Brewing (www.newbelgium.com) today announced that its 16,000 square foot canning line is complete and in full production. The system increases New Belgium’s canning volume capacity six-fold and has the capability to package both 12-ounce and 16-ounce cans.
“People are loving craft beer in a can so we decided to increase production to keep up with demand,” said Bryan Simpson, New Belgium spokesperson. “We first rolled out cans in 2008 as an outdoor-friendly, light for transport and readily recyclable vessel. Our fans enjoy that cans can travel to places where glass is not an option and now tallboys can come along, too.”
The new canning system, manufactured by KHS, features a 40-head filler capable of filling 360 cans per minute; the previous canning line filled 60 cans per minute.
Fat Tire and Ranger IPA are now available in 16-ounce can four-packs. New Belgium’s latest beer, Shift Pale Lager, debuts April 2 and will only be available in 16-ounce cans.
The canning line resides just east of New Belgium’s bottling facility on the brewery’s fifty-acre campus in Fort Collins, CO. New Belgium contracted Neenan Company of Fort Collins for construction. The canning line and facility cost nearly $8 million to build.

I'll be at the KOA too and would totally trade beers. The only thing is, I'm from Grand Rapids, MI, so there's not much I can get that you can't. I'll be sure to pack some Jolly Pumpkins though.

Well I will have no such luck around here. Have you seen any beers like that around Bonnaroo when you come? It's like finding a needle in a haystack around here. We are lucky to have Heineken in a can.
The warehouse down the street will finally be getting Sierra Nevada and New Belgium cans in the next couple of weeks... perfect for Roo. There are maybe 6 brands of craft beers that I can find in cans around here relatively easily (Oskar Blues of course, Avery, and a few others I can't quite name off the top of my head).
Personally, I always bring PBR and Dale's Pale Ale to Bonnaroo, and very rarely make trades... it's not too easy to find a DPA in the campgrounds, and it beats paying 6 bucks in Centeroo.
The Sierra Nevada cans are in!!! 12 bucks for a 12 pack of Pale Ale (12oz) and 7 dollars for a 4 pack of Torpedo (16oz). That twelve pack is even cheaper than the bottles, sweet.
Canning beers is blowing up. I work in a brewery helping on the bottling line and most of us would love to start doing cans. Heady topper is one of the best beers out there and it only comes in cans. I know Oscar blues, 21Amendment, Baxter, and now even Sierra Nevada is doing cans. Oh yeah ska and obviously new Belgium as well. It's a huge trend in craft beer right now and it makes sense a lot of the time.
Unfortunately there's a lot of awesome belgian beers that would be great in the heat that only come in bottles
Oh yeah! PBR is technically defined as a craft beer so there's that too! And those UPSlope cans are fucking awesome looking! Haven't even heard of those guys before but I am intrigued.
