I go to Houston for 30 hours and you guys blow up the thread!! You all need to simmer. The people who seem so sure of everyone need to cool it. It is hard to make any real accusations at this point, we just started. We definitely don't need more then 3 in the runoff.
This is why the townies keep losing. Everything I wrote last night is verified by facts that are easy to look up in previous games, but doing research makes me suspicious? I don't get it.
The townies rarely pressure test anything prior to the first runoff, and we only get a mafia in the runoff half the time because of that. And because the mafia is not always in the runoff, and there is no need for them to save anyone, we have never killed a mafia member the first night going back at least through Mafia 39 (excepting Bonzai in 42, Phi inspector game) and even in 42, we almost killed Phi for saying Bonzai was mafia.
I have not accused anyone of being mafia, because I don't have enough facts to draw a definitative conclusions, but as I said, Phi has changed his Modus Operandi enough that it matches his mafia game. Add to that the voting triangle he set up, and I would like to know more, which is why I voted for him.
Casting suspicion on me because I don't follow the comfortable groove that everyone has gotten into and that has utterly failed the last year is understandable, because it is easy. I can only point to the fact that mafia typically stay quiet early because there is less to have to remember later in the game. Why would I explain in so much depth so early if I had something to hide? Odds are that you would catch it later.
Phi wont change his vote at this point, and since Abra reciprocated my first vote, I understand her not changing, and don't blame her. All it gets you is suspicion at this point based on the false assumption that vote switching is suspicious. Therefore, I know I am probably heading to the runoff. All I am asking is that the other townies at least push a bit more to find mafia prior voting closing later tonight. I would like to see Phi in it, especially after his comment this morning.
And EAP, I am not going to cool it, since cooling is why we keep losing. In fact, I would like to heat it up if we could!

I really don't think Wlviking is mafia but it's really too early to know who is and isn't or even have any good leads. For now I'm changing my vote just to see what happens.

wlviking, you are setting yourself up for an early exit if you are a townie. the more you post, the more you words can be twisted against you. surf seems a bit more suspicious to me at this point.

I understand the wanting to save yourself, but I think we are better off in a runnoff as opposed to going through day one with so many single votes.
It's been almost 8 hours since the vote was changed to put Surf in the outright lead. I am not always opposed to having a round without a runnoff, just seem like something would have happened by now. It took yall the same amount of time to get your 10 votes in when I was wondering around in the woods Saturday. I feel like the one friggin townie among 10 mafia.
CST has only posted for an initial vote and, at least so far, is the quietest player. SFA and RDK gave reasonable reasons, I would at least like to hear from you if you intend to keep your vote.
Although I am comfortable with my vote, it's not set in stone. Anyone one out there want a runnoff?
Just FYI that I am here and watching/reading. While everyone has voted and there's not been much movement, I'm leaving this open at least until later this evening so we know the vast majority have checked in and are comfortable with their votes. I will not close a round without at least a few hours notice.
i am going to change my vote to wlviking, and hope that someone on surf changes away.
i do think it is weird that surf isn't defending himself but i also think it is weird that people seem so comfortable with him just being voted off outright. SFA, CZT....i understand RDK's wanting to vote surf right off to "defend himself", but why you?? i think a townie would prefer a runoff......hmmmm.....

It is pretty much impossible to pinpoint Mafia at this point, these votes are all shots in the dark. However, if I were to make a guess based on expected behavior, I would guess that WL is pretty innocent--or being coached beautifully by a very experienced player---too beautifully really. It would be HIGHLY unusual for a new player who is picked as Mafia to be doing all of this research on other players' behavioral patterns. I'm not saying that he is right about you Phi, I'm just saying that this is a move that I would expect out of a first time townie. The "overachiever". My two cents.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

i am willing to change and put someone else in. like i said, no one looks SUPER SUSPICIOUS right now, i just think we should have three people in the runoff.

As I said in my first long post last night, I would like to see Phi in the runoff, based on his different MO this game. He is acting much more like he did in Mafia 45 when he was Mafia, vs 44 and 43 when he was not. The difference lies in the number and content of posts. The number goes down when he is mafia, and he is less open.
I will repeat that this does not mean I am convinced he is mafia, but his only response to this charge so far is that he said I wasted my time reading the previous games.
To me, that warrents further pressure and scrutiny, so I voted for him.
And RDK, if we cannot figure out the mafia NLT round 2, we are in trouble again anyways. Thats why I am talking so much. Ideally, I would like 2 mafia in the runoff. I have not seen that going back to game 33, so I will settle for 1 at this point. I am also confident that if you go back and look, everything I have posted to date is verifiable, so there is no lie to trip me up.

Sorry for the serial posts. RDK and Phi, I am not being coached. All I did was read a lot of the games and look for patterns. It is a great way to not only learn the game, but learn the people playing the game as well.
All I am asking is for another townie to give me a little bit of rope on this one. After this morning's posts, I am even more sure Phi should be in the runoff.
I have a sneaking suspicion I am going to get whacked tonight if I don't get killed by the town.
I had a super busy day yesterday, and a date last night that... occupied me... so this is the first real chance that I have had to read up and post. The rest of the week I will be more on top of things, but this coming weekend I have a pretty busy one (1 or 2 concerts, and if I only go to one I will be riding down to Bike Week in Daytona)
At any rate, in response to SFA about me being too defensive or whatever - I was just responding to what was mentioned about me being quiet. Take that as you like.
I also would like to have 3 people in the runoff, so in later rounds we can see patterns and get a better idea of who voted for who - I like seeing more than one "round" of voting in the first day.
viking, I can't put my finger on it, but something seems a little...unsettling...about all of your insight. I can't say its SUSPICIOUS per se, but it certainly warrants attention. Im sure you can understand that.
RDK, I really don't like the way you were trying to stack on me, and find that more than unsettling. I remember someone saying somewhere something like "if you vote for me you must be Mafia". Im sure thats not true all the time, but your vote stack, and attempt to get me taken out outright makes me a little leary.
I would really like to get a leg up in this first round and take out a member of the Mafia. If it goes all the way to the end, we only have 5 rounds to vote them out. It seems like there is a correlation between all of these Mafia wins and the fact that we have not been able to root out one in the first round. Lets be smart about this.
As far as the posting habits of Phi - that does seem a little unusual. I have also read back and noticed a complete change in how much you talked before, and how much you talked last game. So if you are a townie, Phi - chat it up a little more please. I don't want to end up in a situation like the one from a couple games ago when I voted Duddits in round 5 because he was too quiet, and I ended up losing the game for us...

You actually posted 44 times in game 42 day 1, but I viewed that as an outlier since it was your first game and you came out as inspector. In 43 and 44, you posted 12 comments each. All of those were game related and exploratory in nature.
In 45, you went down to 9 posts, most of which were not related to the game. The ones that were were declarative in nature, very similar to this game.
Surf, I can see you and others being suspicious / unsettled. I even acknowledged as much in one of my earlier posts. I just took the time to be prepared. Understand if everyone wants me in the runoff, even though it keeps one of the mafia out.
