i was afraid of this exact post... i was hoping you'd be able to look past the metallica thing and see an otherwise great lineup... but alas, we'll miss you this year Killer Bee...
^^I gotta agree with corncat - when I saw the line up - I am not disappointed that we are not going and I like Metallica - love them live - have seen them 3 times - they put on a great show - I don't wanna see them at Bonnaroo and I was less then impressed with the rest of the line up (except for Jack Johnson)

I don't really know how you can say Bonnaroo isn't at all about the music anymore... I mean, the past 3 years or so that I've paid attention to the line up they have done an exceptional job of always bringing something new to the table. To me, that's what music is all about... broadening horizons, experiencing something new?
But, two each his/her own... Corncat will be missed... but surely will be there in spirit, if nothing else!
I agree, Strum. One thing that I really like about the lineup is how many different types of artists there are. And that was my favorite thing about last year, my first Bonnaroo - I got to experience so much new music.
And didn't everyone claim that Tool would ruin Bonnaroo? But then afterwards realized that they were just one of many bands and Roo still rocked?
And I dont know about you folks, bur for me, Corncat will most definitely be there. Corncat is not one single person, but an entity which we must all keep alive!
Sorry to hear you aint coming Killer Bee, but you do not own corncat and he must be allowed to roam freely as his heart desires! I like to think that there is a little corncat in all of us, therefore corncat will be at roo.....

i'm going by way of the corncat. 6 and done, kinda sad. ticket prices are just too high for the music i know i'll see. i'm not being negative, just realistic. i could pay half the price of a ticket to bonnaroo and see many more bands that cater more to my musical tastes. it's shitty that this year they announce Israel Vibration - that's about the only band that really got me fired up. Bluegrass Allstars would be fun, and I'd love to see the Allmans at Roo again, but why oh why does a ticket have to start at $250?? that's terribe in my honest opinion... highway robbery.
I hear you Bee. I PROMISE to stop being the negative a-hole here. You folks who go will almost CERTAINLY have a really great time because good people who want to have a good time almost always do!
That said, I reccomend Langerado or some other fest this year. It reminds me of the old Chicago Cubs. They never spent money on good players because they knew they'd sell the place out every year anyway. People just love the Cubs. The only way to make Bonnaroo give up on crap like Metallica is to STOP GOING...just for one year if need be.
Then they'll get the point believe me. Bonnaroo is always the mother of all awesome festies...but this year there are enough great alternatives that I can happily do something else to prove a point to Superfly!

^exactly grob. and that's the perfect attitude to have also. like i said, not negative, just realistic when looking at self. i *personally* don't too much care for the ticket price being so high. the reason its so high is due to some of the acts signed. i don't need those seemingly major draws to secure my ticket. i gave cloud 9 $1000 before i ever even saw their lineup; i used to be this way with superfly, but i just can't this year. i'm sad to miss what i know will be some HEAVY hitters of some live performances, but my head and heart are saying no.

you should give up being a negative a-hole for lent! ;D hehe... jk...

I totally agree! I mean, I reallly think bringing new and unique musical talents is what roo is about... I love my jam bands, but I think it would get old after a couple of years to go and see the same type of thing.
I think the lineup is phenomenal, and people should remember they are STILL going to be adding last minute acts and such.
I don't really get the whole stigma against Metallica... but I like them
i think i will stay true to my decision made immediately after ROO last year, and skip 08 and head to All Good, and possible 10klf, if at all possible.
the bands are great, but the vibe will be lacking even more this year, with an almost complete lack of jammy goodness. i don't even like Umphreys, so... i'll stick around these forums, hopefully the all good forums blow up a little too...
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.

It's been the vibe that has kept me coming back four years. But that is slowly trickling down the drain. I have been all for showing up to keep the vibe alive and not throw in the towel. No Tool didn't ruin the vibe last year. But Maynards incessant crybabyness changed the policy on taping and cameras. Anyone remember those lines ?
And lest anyone forget, Metallica is not at all trade friendly. They were the predominant artists who sued Napster. Now superfly cowtowing to them by offering up a headline slot ? Slap in my face for supporting artists who support fans.
But because Deadhead banker Knox likes money, you are all wrong who choose to make a stand....
Look, Metallica sued Napster, but that was like 10 years ago, get over it. They made a mistake, and if anyone ever read any of their interviews IN FULL you'd see they sued for more than just getting money. It's not like Metallica were sitting in a room and said "You know what, those mp3's are really hurting our HUGE sales, and I can't buy my Ferrari next week so let's sue!"
No, for all you know they could legitamately have sued for the PROGRESS of music. As a musician myself, I've often questioned if P2P applications are good or harmful to smaller artists. Personally, I usually come to the conclusion that if more people listen to my music, then I'm happy. But just because people are downloading my music doesn't necessarily more people will hear my music.
The fact is that if you don't sell records, it's harder to progress to something great. Look at Tommy James and the Shondells. The band was dead until a Pittsburgh radio station picked up a bootleg and played it. Tommy James then went on to write some of rocks greatest songs, but that was AFTER he sold 100k records. So in that example, free trade benefited Tommy James, but it was AFTER he made the money that he was really able to write some really good music. Maybe that's the stand Metallica really took, not the other way around.
All I'm saying is if your not going to Bonnaroo this year, just because YOU THINK that they "hate their fans" (that's absolutely nuts, no band hates their fans) or YOU THINK they clearly want the money, then I really think your a damn idiot. Seriously, I enjoy music, and can care less of what the general perception of a band is. I want the MUSIC, not what type of person they are or what they hate or like.
And lastly, do you honestly think your that pure or above Metallicas morals? In the words of the Flaming Lips...
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want Because you cannot know yourself or what you'd really do
