Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
i haven't given up on bonnaroo so quicky. i'm still going. nothing can convince me otherwise.
yes, the lineup was slightly shocking to me. and although i'm not happy about certain parts... i never am! there are some really good bands that i'm extremely excited about. but honestly, its not all about the lineup.
to be 100% honest... the main reason i'm going is cause of this board. the people here are amazing. always good vibes. these are the same good vibes i got from different people while actually at bonnaroo. and no part of me believes these vibes are going to go disappear with the coming of some crappy bands.
to those of you who aren't returning to the farm this year, i respect your decision. it must be tough, cause i know i wouldn't be able to pass up bonnaroo until i'm there and it proves it has changed. so, i guess thank you for posting on this board... and sorry you won't be there this summer. we'll miss you guys!

Blah blah blah
Look, Metallica sued Napster, but that was like 10 years ago, get over it. They made a mistake, and if anyone ever read any of their interviews IN FULL you'd see they sued for more than just getting money. It's not like Metallica were sitting in a room and said "You know what, those mp3's are really hurting our HUGE sales, and I can't buy my Ferrari next week so let's sue!"
No, for all you know they could legitamately have sued for the PROGRESS of music. As a musician myself, I've often questioned if P2P applications are good or harmful to smaller artists. Personally, I usually come to the conclusion that if more people listen to my music, then I'm happy. But just because people are downloading my music doesn't necessarily more people will hear my music.
The fact is that if you don't sell records, it's harder to progress to something great. Look at Tommy James and the Shondells. The band was dead until a Pittsburgh radio station picked up a bootleg and played it. Tommy James then went on to write some of rocks greatest songs, but that was AFTER he sold 100k records. So in that example, free trade benefited Tommy James, but it was AFTER he made the money that he was really able to write some really good music. Maybe that's the stand Metallica really took, not the other way around.
All I'm saying is if your not going to Bonnaroo this year, just because YOU THINK that they "hate their fans" (that's absolutely nuts, no band hates their fans) or YOU THINK they clearly want the money, then I really think your a damn idiot. Seriously, I enjoy music, and can care less of what the general perception of a band is. I want the MUSIC, not what type of person they are or what they hate or like.
And lastly, do you honestly think your that pure or above Metallicas morals? In the words of the Flaming Lips...
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want Because you cannot know yourself or what you'd really do
I'm going to 'roo '08. My biggest concern right now is that SIgur Ros and Ghostland Observatory will play the same time slot on a latenight.
That said... Is it really proper to call Metallica music? I know I'm going DESPITE AC Superfly's best efforts to keep me away.

about 1/3 of the bands are in my "would like to see" list.
1/2 of those i have already seen.
I refuse to ever, EVER give a cent to metallica.
Plus, this is really indicative of a totally new vibe for bonnaroo...VOMAROO.
They have "acts" that aren't even close to good live, or relevant.
It it like woodstock 94 - and will probably end the same way.
My plan is to take a couple weeks off in the summer -head to allgood, drive around for a week, head to bisco.
I'll go where the festivals are about the music and not about the cash.
Sad to say but I agree with you dude. Although Im still going due to the amount of acts in there that I havent seen, Im quite disappointed by some of the headliner choices.

Boards are kind of a breeding groudn for bitching...wait...you just bitched. See waht I mean? Let everybody get their anger and disappointment out.

I apoligize for using a message board to state an opinion. What was I thinking?
I wouldn't give up on Roo because they signed Metallica. That being said, last year was my first so maybe I'm of the new (not neccesarily the best) Roo blood. I count at least 11 bands I'm totally pumped to see. IMHO, Pearl Jam, Willie Nelson, Plant/Krause and BB freakin' KING more than make up for Metallica. The high priest of CornCat will be sadly missed. Hope you come back to us next year.
^^^indeed! though maybe not as in mass quantity as in past years. Last year was upsetting in the corn department if you ask me. Maybe this year will be better though I expect worse with Metallica and PJ there. The crowd is changing thus the security is changing too
You and I are probably not talking about the same thing but I just needed to add this somewhere.
IMHO Metallica being there just gives me time to nap and re-charge for late night... being indifferent to the headliners almost every year has worked for me ;D
can we start an official thread for the bitching that takes place every year about how the vibe is really going to change at roo this year? i look forward to the rhetoric every winter like reading a great novel twice...
not a metallica fan either, but that would never deter me from going and fully enjoying all of the other diverse music, not to mention the awesome atmosphere of the people, activities, food, etc. We can all count on the vibe being as cool as ever!
It's a music festival, thus, I expect there to be artists I like, dislike or have never heard of. Despite my strong dislike of Metallica (maybe I would have enjoyed them more in the 80s), I try to keep an open mind about what I listen to. Especially at an event with both diverse sounds and diverse people. That said, I doubt I will have any trouble finding something else to do while ANY of the bands I'm not interested in are playing.

Yeah, you should try to refrain from that. See, when different opinions meet, they can't do anything but clash negatively so let's just keep the diversity of thought to a minimum...mmkay?.

when i saw this line up i felt like i just found out my girlfriend was cheating on me with a brother i didnt know i had
That's a great way to put it.
The only apprehension I have about the whole thing is security. I am worried they are going to be on our nuts this year more than ever. That and the return of fakedown. Some of the corn going around wasn't of good standards. It was too yellow, not enough maize!
Well, I need someone to talk to Erica (formally messedupgirl) and make her see that one band will not spoil the whole weekend. She is stuck on the Metallica thing and can't get excited about the rest of the lineup. I really want to go, but I'm not going to make her if she's not into it. I pray some of the additions will light her fire a bit. All those who don't want to see Metallica can come over to our camp site and put down a few. Well, that's if we go. Man, 2009 is too long to wait, I need my ROOOOOOOOO!
Well, I hope your wife changes her mind because one band does not Bonnaroo make!
Of course, it would probably help your case if people would just stop trash talking both sides of the fence. A lot of us aren't Metallica fans (or Jack Johnson fans or Allman Brothers fans or [insert band name you don't like here] fans).
There are at least 30 bands on that lineup, before the additions, that I am really looking forward to seeing. Can she really not find anyone to be excited about or is it just Metallica overshadowing everything? If you were eating at a buffet and they were serving brussels sprouts, would you never eat at that buffet again?
