Wow!!! Didn't know about that. I would like to know the camera company behind that to give them my opinion on civil rights and privacy. I didn't think this was a communist country. If i ever find out that my beloved Bonnaroo allowed that kind of crap to happen i would condemn it more that i have ever endorsed it. It's about being free from all the crap of our everyday lives not being pursued by it. Thanks for the info mrbrown.
From the microwave van scans our radio armbands will be ported to Google services. We can run but we cannot hide. Anywhere.
Don't laugh. That cool feature that posted to Facebook every time you went in and out of centeroo is a whole new set of data that I am sure was used in bringing in sponsors.

From the official website's web developer:
"We assist companies by jump-starting their digital strategies, evolving their brands, growing their audiences and realizing new revenue opportunities."
I'm not complaining. Sometimes I think about my digital footprint and how vast and far reaching it is by now.
An old Cherokee Man told me once to live as if I was onstage for all to see before I act or react. Good words.
Last year with the RFID bands, when you registered them, you had the option of linking them to your facebook account. People could see when you entered and left centeroo. But keep in mind, RFID is not just for security and fun facebook activities. I would bet they saved all of that information and used it for a variety of purposes such as traffic flow, when different age groups came and went, what gates GA used vs VIP, etc etc. And then, once they collated all that info, their marketing group probably used it to set higher values on different spaces in centeroo for advertizing.
Data mining is a very big thing in marketing right now, and combining that with technologies that have been developed for the wars in the last 12 years, you have a huge pool of info to mine. Just saying, you need to be aware of your footprint and what everything does. The RFID is not bad in and of itself, but remember that the data goes somewhere.
True. Remember that a part of this is to improve the experience which is why I registered mine. But there is a flip side in that it is additional data that they have on your movements that allow them to subdivide the advertising.
I would not be surprised if they allow you to link a CC in 3-5 years and make purchases in Centeroo with your band. There are a lot of kinks in the process right now, but I feel like we are getting closer and closer to that. Disney does something like this with an integrated room key, and they saw a huge boost in revenue when they did that. Bonnaroo is immersive, just like Disney, and I would bet the same principles would apply.
It would be difficult to get accurate tracking from tent to tent to stage, but I could also see that in 3-5 years.
Again, a lot of this is to improve the experience, but make no mistake, they collect and mine this data, and it will only become more prevalent in future events.

Your room key acts like a credit card when on Disney property. Purchases are billed to your room account. We had this on our cruise in fall 2010.

Right, and I think they saw something like a 30% increase in incidental revenue when they did this, because you forget you are using real money, since it all comes from your card. In addition to that, they use that info to track flow patterns since they know when you enter your room, when you go to a park, and where you shop. Then they can improve the continuous feedback loop for profitable customers, making it more and more likely you will spend more money. They are at the forefront of a lot of this type of marketing and have mathematicians working on the data all the time.
Ferrofluids. I saw a demonstration on them at an American Chemical Society get together. You should see it in real life. One of the craziest things I ever saw.
That doesn't mean the info you posted will definitely be gone from the internet forever though. May be copies or archives or other things somewheres on the net.

My old chem major roommate taught me that ferrofluids + speakers = awesome.

That is very true. It was part of the demo. There are videos of it online.

Advanced chemistry is pretty sweet. I was deeper in to the organic chem stuff, since I was molecular bio, but I loved physical chemistry.
And most lower level chem stuff is pretty boring, since they have to keep it basic so people do not hurt themselves. They should at least show people stuff like this to get them excited at a young age. Its how I got hooked. I went to DuPont with a class, and they mixed two liquids together and pulled out latex. That and taking a rock of raw sodium and throwing it in the snow to blow it up.
