The rain isn't bad. Just listen to everyone; get a cheap emergency poncho, get ziplock bags, flip flops are just stupid, make sure your tarps and tents are taught, etc. The humidity with the heat after a short shower sucks sometimes if you're not used to it/let it.

Rain is really only a problem if your camp isn't prepared. If rain is coming making sure everything is staked or packed away. Have a ground tarp under your tent and roll up the edges so water doesn't roll over. Also be prepared to throw out any shoes you're wearing. Otherwise, rain makes for a fun experience and makes the heat more bearable.
The only downside for me is that I like to randomly flop down and nap in Centeroo and rain/mud takes that off the table. It's kind of a mixed bag -- I'm less tired from the heat but I'm also less rested!

I haven't seen that video before, amazing! That set in the rain was so surreal...
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
Depends on the rain really. Last year it dropped a few drops during Buffalo Springfield. I was hoping it would rain a light sprinkle for about 20 minutes to cool it off and knock some of that dust out of the air but no luck. a 20 minute light rain daily would be ideal.
If it rains too much then it will be muddy as all get out, and that wont be good but it can still be fun.

I don't think it should ruin the experience. A little rain is great. A ton of rain may be troublesome (wet tents, lots of mud), but you can still have a good time. I would have given anything for some rain last year. A torrential downpour would have been better than the dust bowl.
Best weather ever was Bonnaroo 2005 - cloudy and drizzly pretty much the whole time, but it never really flat out poured (except maybe a couple very brief ones)? No dust, but no mud. The mornings were cool enough where you could sleep in somewhat. It was pretty excellent.
I think that I can get on board with 05 being the best weather. I remember it pouring pretty hard when I was trying to catch The Black Crowes, Jack Johnson, Keller Williams, OAR, Will Hoge and Iron and Wine all at basically the same time. I opened my backpack for the security search and forgot to close it, flooding the contents of my backpack.

I love it when it rains, although the strong thunderstorms scare me.
I remember Friday morning in 09 everyone showed up to brunch in hoodies. We were able to sleep in quite late several mornings because of great cloud cover. Same in 08.
The one piece of advice that I can add to the pretty thorough discussion already in this thread is to make sure you have a tarp UNDER your tent, which a lot of people remember to do. But more importantly... the tarp should not stick out from under the edge of the tent. I cringe everytime I see someone with their tarp sticking out. That's a great way to get a pool of water right under your tent.
Rain can be good. Luckily the years I've gone ('07-11) there's never been enough rain to ruin my experience. I think I've heard that '04 was a pretty rough year with rain and mud. In my opinion '09 had the best weather, and the previous year right behind it. Great cloud cover with a decent amount of rain. I can only hope we get a nice (but brief) shower or two durin' the fest to cool it down durin' the day!

I think it was 2004 when the rain starting coming down at night. The people that had ponchos where doing great, the people without where wet, and cold.
Outside of that even rain has been welcomed in years past.
Someone explain the significance of the MMJ set in that video for me. I think I remember hearing about a set that went all night in the rain.....was that it?? Or was that a different rain set??
Personally, I love when it rains at Bonnaroo. Especially during the day, early evening. Either last year or the year before, the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up around 4:00-5:00pm. So we just sat under the EZ up, popped a beer and watched the weather and people running and scattering. I welcome the rain.

That was someone probably spilling beer on you. ;D
2002 was a wash....remember standing waiting on N Young for an hour in ankle deep mud, but even though it was a total rain out....the music was just as good, the people just as good, and the good times just as good....
It's Bonnaroo....rain or shine, some of the best times of your year....
There HAS to be a few bands that are going to refuse to play in the rain.. with what mmj got payed to play the set you saw in that video, they could buy an entire new backline x 2, but i have a feeling radiohead with their vintage synths and whathaveyou, or a smaller band not getting payed 5 figures+ to play roo are going to be none-so-happy to be setting up their gear in the rain.
edit* - i realize now that the smaller bands i speak of would be playing in tents, therefore, no rain issues. i wonder if bonnaroo has a deal with bands when it rains that they must play and if any gear gets fried, it will be replaced.

I have seen a dust-a-roo and i've seen a mud-a-roo and i have no cares at all which way it goes as long as i am there. Life is full of the unexpected so why should Bonnaroo be any different. it's what keeps it all a mystery and mysteries are fun. I will be smiling the whole time i am there come rain or shine. So what i'm saying is don't fret the small things like the weather as long as you are smart about it. Rain or not always drink plenty o water. Have a blast. See you there. Peace.
Rain, rain, go away! I'd rather have dust all four days!! A small shower wouldn't be bad, but a huge storm making everything a soupy, muddy mess would be a bummer to me. I'd make the best of it, but I wouldn't prefer it. If I want to get soaking wet I'll go to the fountain. The amount of rain we got last year and in 2010 was perfect for me. It was just enough to cool you off for a few minutes.
