Things were harder last year, and i definitely sensed change in the air, everything i wanted came to me, but I was having a hard time on saturday be cause I was completely dry, I gave up, and went with the flow determined to enjoy what I had saved my money for so long for, and sunday afternoon at Ratdog, it finally reappeared, and was a godsend. but still the number one priority for me is the music. the "cool"is a casual second priority, but yes you definitely have to pay attention to your surroundings, and yes shakedown was fakedown, and UCs were infiltrating the campgrounds, and spreading a sense of paranoia that was unlike the year before, oh well, things of the "cool" aspect don't always last.this year @ Roo be very careful, I hate to sound like a downer, but things are changing. Good luck on the"cool", "corn" or whatever we call it, it's hard to imagine Roo w/o it.
I noticed that shakedown was a lot smaller last year too. I was kinda dissapointed because I had told all my friends that hadn't been before that it was a really cool place to look around but we did end up finding the glass and everything else sunday night during WSP. It seemed a lot further back last year than the year before.

Shakedown definitely shrunk last year and there were a lot of expensive...'knockoff' products being sold. that said you could find some cool door to door salesmen if you were in a good campsite. And seconding Becca, NYC has great deliverymen!
i think the main Shakedown has historically been located on either 5th Ave or that wide road next to camps 12 and 13. in 2007 when i was there, the 'Shakedown' that existed on either of those roads was there, but it seemed most of the vendors were food oriented and definitely were rather official looking, like they had cracked down a lot on unlicensed vending. it was far more populated and diverse with both official and unofficial looking vendors in '06.
i did hear from people and read on this board that the more traditional version of 'Shakedown' had moved closer to BFE which i've usually considered anything past that lake that says 'private property'.
but the keyword for 'cool' shakedown opportunities imho, is "mobility" so keep your ears & eyes open at all times.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Yeah, or at least it was third. They peaced it out with vendor-gouging and mounties. I almost couldn't believe it last year, it was confusing. I was walking around, thinking, "wasn't there a lot more stuff here last time?" It wasn't even really people, it was all the vendors, there were like half as many, and it used to just be nothing but vendors end to end - or at least it seemed that way.
Everything's still at Bonnaroo, just not really concentrated into Shakedown like it was. My advice to the OP: walk around a little.
yes i am a negative one because I don't hold any punches I love it ... if you have lots of karma on here it means that you would rather bite you tongue and be happy to piss bloody kidney stones.
My dad used to tell me the most honest guy who knew was indeed honest...honestly a jerk.
I don't PULL punches either...I just earned my karma the hard way- by sticking around the boards and contributing. You might want to try it sometime.
I like how Vinny goes "oh yeah it was my first time last year ever going but, it's definitely different. Get a clue.
you get a clue I've been to plenty of festivals before bonnaroo so in comparison to that ... theres no way it generated so much hype being the way it was last year... you people act like roo is the only festival
This is a Bonnaroo message board....so why would you come here and expect anything different. You expressed your opinion, and your not going. We are going (most of us are) because we love Bonnaroo and are happy (enough to go) with the lineup. Leave it alone.....
Shakedown (fakedown?) was definitely on 3rd last year. We were in camp 39 so we didn't need to go far for anything but due to the closeness we didn't really explore. Are there things to do/see further out in the camps? I don't necessarily mean anything 'cool'.

Right on knoxville!
I thought it was just me who thought shakedown was a little smaller and farther away than normal, but I just chalked it up to my exaggerated imagination...But I guess I wasn't imagining it...I only went to shakedown once last year when normally I go quite a bit

last year was my first Bonnaroo and I knew that Shakedown wasn't anything like I had heard about. Unfortunately I didn't hear that it had basically "moved" until I got home and read it on here. Oh well...guess I'll have to explore a more this June. But anyway...I had a rough experience with the traveling vendors which I had to resort to due to my inability to find Shakedowns new location. Most of the mobile salesmen and salewomen seemed really sketchy and the couple that I did trust with my money ripped me off and dissappeared back into the sea of tents. So my advice would be to not trust the folks who provide campsite service
I'm an honest asshole, as well. That's why I always have appreciated dudewheresmyroo, and his posts. I tell it like it is, because I hate when people dance around a fact to create suspense or whatever. Vinny, however, is just an not a very nice person to be an not a very nice person. If he didn't like the fest, I don't know why he posts here, but that's his prerogative.
As far as shakedown being cool. There was less there last year, but I didn't spend any time or money there. Everything I wanted came to me, so I wasn't going to go looking.
I'm glad you guys are around to "keep it real" for the rest of us squares. ;D

I didnt know anything about plantation last year. the farthest i got was to bushy branch. I kind of halfway remember sunday morning i was getting a large bag of ice, and I walked into some tent that had free snacks water and fruit. I forgot what it was the people were doing there, i think just watching out for people. Thanks for the breakfast. Just one of those things i almost totally forgot about. You could take a right at the last vendor on third and my campsite was right there, so I didnt venture out far into the unknown. Next year I will. I should have bought some of the green colored ice cream on 3rd also.

You know, I liked that shakedown moved, and I had to find it last year. It was more adventurous!
Actually, I just asked an inforooster where all the cool vendors were, and they said Plantation. Which leads me to wonder... will it move again this year? This thread may bring some unwanted visitors to our fair shakedown. The only time I went there, a dude got me what I needed, so I know it was legit.
When I saw how sparse Shakedown on 3rd was last year, I didn't feel quite as bad getting stuck at the far end of camp Lois Einhorn. That just meant I spent plenty of time on Plantation St. The door-to-door salespeople were also convenient out there.
This is one reason I'm not quite as sure about going VIP this year. Looks like I'd then have to walk farther out in the campground to find some good vendors.
