When I saw how sparse Shakedown on 3rd was last year, I didn't feel quite as bad getting stuck at the far end of camp Lois Einhorn. That just meant I spent plenty of time on Plantation St. The door-to-door salespeople were also convenient out there.
This is one reason I'm not quite as sure about going VIP this year. Looks like I'd then have to walk farther out in the campground to find some good vendors.
I was 3 cars from the end of Lois Einhorn along the trees in '06 and I loved the walk up to Centeroo every day. That was the best place I've ever camped. Last year in Pussy Galore was horrible.
the nice friendly horse people were turned into elevated spies with radios to set up busts on shakedown last year.

one of the mounties actually told us where the real shakedown was last year.. .we probably wouldnt have found it otherwise, lol..
does not compute!
well it happened after he saw someone selling glass. he told the guy he didnt want it over here and then told us how to get to the real shakedown and said that he didnt go over there.

really makes perfect sense to me
Of course. It makes perfect sence that unfriendly elevated spies would kindly point a festival goer toward the part of the fest she was looking for. What a narc!
I love how all these paranoid hippies insist the fest has changed for the worse because shakedown moved a block. And for the record I still encountered glass and other merchandise on fakedown last year. I honestly wonder if some of us went to the same festival last year.

where was the real shakedown? last year was my first year, and we had trouble finding what we needed

#1 has nothing to do with shakedown moving #2 The horse people will point you in the direction of things you are looking for #3 They will take pictures of potential dealers and or suspicious activity (be careful, and don't be stupid) #4 Low arrests are low arrests yes... many people just get a hefty fine. #5 There are plenty of Narcs who are directed towards people the horse people find suspicious...
^ Word. Keep your eyes open. There were plenty of great vendors around. Bonnaroo is a big place! You must be willing to explore!
ya, there were travelling "vendors" last year... i can't tell you how often we heard [glow=red,2,300]MOLLIES, ROLLS, CHOCOLATES...[/glow]
I don't really know what that means though, do you think those were druq dealers? i sure hope not, because i thought there were no druqs at bonnaroo?!??!

its a myth. try too hard and you'll soon learn why you heard a couple random people saying something about 6. and no, it's not the balloon flying over your head.
Fakedown = 3rd street Shakedown = Plantation St (off the paved road behind the fence)
Just for future reference.
Bamadancer is correct...all the things that were missing/removed from 3rd St. wound up relocating here. Which was convenient as I was camped in "Dr. Peter Venkman".
Bottom line - "Seek and ye shall 'Om Nom Nom Nom'...."

I like how Vinny goes "oh yeah it was my first time last year ever going but, it's definitely different. Get a clue.
you get a clue I've been to plenty of festivals before bonnaroo so in comparison to that ... theres no way it generated so much hype being the way it was last year... you people act like roo is the only festival
You have almost twice as much negative karma as posts. That, sir, is impressive. But not in a good way.
And now I'm not even sure I found Shakedown last year. I thought I did, leading out one street from the entrance to Centeroo. On the right hand side as you were exiting as I recall. Was that not it?
I heard that yelled more times than I heard people shout "BONNAROOOOOOOOO". No lie.
Ditto. And I will never forget walking around fakedown at 2am and hearing "doses" whispered into my ears as if I were being trailed by some sort of vending enigma/spectre.

I think I only went to Fakedown St. last year. And I wasn't impressed at all. I don't recall ever going to Plantation St. I'll definitely have to hit it up this year.

It really has not been huge since 2004. After that year I noticed a progressive dropoff in the size of shakedown each year. I felt last year actually had more than 2006 however. I see a big drop in this years Shakedown, but who knows.

Here's a question I haven't seen posed. At least for my group, we haven't usually even attempted to find shakedown until friday evening or saturday morning - but just what is the consensus on when Shakedown opens for business? Thursday evening?

It was my experience that there were a fair number of booths and vendors trading on "New Shakedown" (which is what I am calling Plantation St. now) Thurs. night, and the number grew steadily before I thought it peaked late Sat. afternoon. We were camped literally RIGHT next door so I had plenty of oppertunity to watch this happen.

Considering what I have heard of past Shakedowns and what I saw in 2007, it wasn't as bad as you all make it out to be.
I can't believe is that you all think Plantation St. was better than Shakedown. Plantation St. was pretty farking lame other than the presence of glass there, which was only one table.
Most of what we were looking for came to us, right out in the open on Fakedown. As for glassware, it took about two days, but one of the vendors there finally opened up their private, back office to us.
This year Shakedown was not the place to find your goods. However, many people set up mini shops (due to the taxing of last year) in the camping areas... which to me is a better idea anyway. It's not a matter of where you look, it's a matter of how you look. I found a guy who had TONS of glass pipes in his truck. All were insanely low priced... many of the others in my group recall similar experiences last year... Shakedown, however did have tons of expensive hats and dollar grilled cheese sandwiches... and it was not too far out from roo last year.
But yeah, unfortunately (or fortunately), Shakedown is not nearly as blatantly "cool".

Last year was the first for us but we just ended up camped right off shakedown (had no clue till we talked to the neighbors). We found lots of cool vendors scattered all over though. The garlic grilled cheese is so worth a $1! I say just look around and converse with your neighbors you are bound to find something. No really good deals though, everything was kinda expensive.
Ive been to every ROO and 07 had a big decrease in Shakedown activity. Hell the early years had multiple Shakedowns all over. My guess is that since the farm is now owned instead of leased they felt they had more liability. Part of the Roo campsite is still leased and maybe thats where this Plantation street is located.

I have been to every roo except 2002 and 2006. There is definitely a taming of shakedown street. Last year it was pretty lame as compared to years past.

This is 100% true.
It is as if Superfly brought in commercial carnies last year to line the main path from Bushy Branch to Centeroo. they wanted to own all of that action too and they do now. And since the carnie vendors have no interest in the "coolness" you can understand what cool vendors got out of dodge... except for the desperate/wasted/dumb/conartist ones.
Even the food "vendors", in the early years, could get a permit from the health department on the spot. They would drive up and say stop selling food or give us $50 and get a permit...
