I'd like to hear what everyone thinks of Fleet Foxes and their potential to headline in a few years. I'd really like to see Pecknold and friends step up their live show. Vernon has 10 or 11 guys backing him up on Bon Iver's tour, and the sound is pretty huge (again, I'm only basing this on the Coachella performance, SNL performance, and a few other videos). I'd love to see the Fleet Foxes bring out a big group like that.
While they fall into the same genre as slow-tempo Bonny Bear, some of the Foxes' best tunes have more of a pace to them. Songs like Battery Kinzie, Grown Ocean, and White Winter Hymnal would be huge!
I can't see their ceiling being any higher than a pre-headliner.
Yeah, that is probably because they havent had much mainstream success. And you're probably right. I think the careers of Fleet and Bonny will be similar to Wilco. They'll eventually have long, deep catalogues and a few great albums, but never quite tip into Bonnaroo Headliner status.
It's not a comparison. I said we will see in the future.
You also used your "we will see" by citing their billing at Sasquatch, then posted it in this Roo thread. Their Sasquatch position is no indicator of them potentially headlining a fest as big as Roo, my man.
I really have made no claims about Bon Iver, nor have I compared Sasquatch to Roo, my man. Thanks for adding another non-opinion to the conversation though

So the only claim about Bon Iver was that it would be unfair for me to rule out a future appearance as a headliner (because I don't think they should be!), and still no Sasquatch/Roo comparisons.
Are you a music fan or just another obnoxious philosophy major? It's ok, I forgive you.

^ congratulations on a post about music. I agree with both of your sentiments on the return of Mumford, that crowd will be massive. Are they recording a new album currently?
If they come back in 2013 I bet they'd be a Pre-headliner. I'd be really interested to hear a new album and see if they incorporate any new sounds or instruments.
Mumford has been playing 3-4 "new songs" since they Roo last year. I saw them at SXSW this year and knew the songs pretty well at this point. Anyways, they are fantastic and if the album is as good as those few songs then I bet they are pretty close to headlining in the next few years.
I saw Bon Iver live at a taping of Austin City Limits. I like the recorded stuff but wasn't sure what to expect due to the nature of the music. Since the band has 8 members the sound is huge and I was blown away by the performance. Still needs another big album to headline but this is going to be a fantastic show.

Haha that was a cool little interview. Ya if the album does well, and I'm assuming it will, they'd AT LEAST be a top 6 act. At this point it's just a matter of getting the timing right in 2013 so that they make their return.
I was at the '10 That Tent show but missed out on the Which stage last year. Heard it was pretty kick ass.
I'm not sure if anyone has thrown this out there but I could definitely see The National getting there. I was just thinking about how damn ready I am for a new album from them and I could see it elevating them to that level, or damn near it.

I heart you too, buddy. Don't you think so? They had the Which Stage under their command, and the same goes for Coachella's Outdoor Theatre in 2011. "Mr. November" under the stars on the main stage would be a beautiful thing. Maybe they don't have enough mainstream appeal though, who knows.

I would really like to see them get that big because I can listen to them all day long. I have at least two days a month at work where I go Alligator -> Boxer -> High Violet in a row for my music selections. That being said, Matt's voice is not for everyone. I know several people who refuse to give them a chance because they hate his voice. I don't know if that will end up being enough people to keep them from the next level, but it might be.
You guys, this is more fun when you pick bands that aren't already pre-headliners.
That's kind of why I asked. I'm so out of the loop with current top acts and things like that. What up and comers do you see possibly making the transition? Like a few years ago I would have said Portugal. The Man but they seem to have leveled off as well and I don't see them moving up dramatically.
But as for newer acts or lesser known I'm so behind on everything.
