Hello I am going to Roo this year and am so so excited!!! I am coming from Cleveland TN, so its not to bad a drive. I am going with 3 of the coolest people i know! So after reading some of these other forums, I just wanted to make sure I am reading everything right so i can go and have a great time! Drink plenty of water..the lines are long, dont worry what you look like (this one is gonna be hard for me) get to know your tent neighbors, and dance lol i love to dance! and go see alot of shows and take plenty of pics, and i am a lil confused about bringing your own food....dont bring alot..or what??

Last year was my first time. I brought enough food to cook three meals a day for 4 days. I ate almost none of it. I was expecting the festival food prices to be high, but I was pleased to see that I could eat for $5.00. I ate the fruit and yogurt I brought for breakfast but that was it. I donated all of my canned goods to a food drive (got a great poster in return) and I cooked all of the meat and veggies I brought the last day I was there at one time and gave it out to everybody.
There's just too much going on to want to cook on a camp stove. Not only that but your campsite is so far away from the shows that you don't want to go back.
Bring snack food and breakfast food (if you eat breakfast) but don't overdo the food thing. Plan on eating in Centeroo.
The deal is this. If $$$ is tight, bring enough for a good meal a day and snacks that can stand the heat. You won't eat as much as you think due to the heat and busy schedule.
If $$$ is not too tight, food is relatively cheap and very good. It may make sense to eat out. I'd still bring snacks though.
I bring enough food to feed myself and my neighbors one meal a day. Just a good way to make friends and I like to cook. I didn't spend a single penny the first 3 Roos.
Lately I buy a little food just to try the deliciousness.

just a comment on the long lines thing... i know some people said that they waited in line forever, but i never experienced anything too bad.. maybe i was just lucky but i never waitied more than 2-3 minutes in the security line excpet for the police last year and that was less than 10 minutes
as for food... bring lots of portable snacks. you dont know where you're gonna end up and you probably wont want to walk back to your campsite to cook... bring stuff like beef jerky, trail mix, fruit, granola bars, etc and buy the "big" meals in centeroo or on shakedown.
and take a million pictures! i took over 500 pics last year and i wish i took more

Ditto to what everyone else has said. Bring snacks and throw them in your bag/backpack before heading into Centeroo. There's plenty of good, cheap food to be found there. Save the snacks for when you've found THE perfect spot for the next show and don't want to move.
Cooking just takes too much time and energy. Why cook when you can dance? If you must, save it for breakfast, so you don't have to walk on an empty stomach.
Bring water, either in large sealed bottles (security may make you throw open bottles out) or a Camelbak. When you run out, look for a water fountain for free refills. Note that the well water on site tends to have a bit of a sulfur taste to it. It's not bad, but some people are put off by it.

bring the amount of money that you feel comfortable spending and spend wisely...
as far as thievery, I once accidentally left my wallet at camp in plain view, wide open with money in it and nothing happened. people will occasionally steal beer though! LOL Just be careful with major valuables but mostly it's been safe and I've gone every year but '02. Hope you have as much fun as I did my first year and welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks...Something else... Money-how much do you need to bring? and as far as your stuff...i hate to sound like this, but dont you worry about ppl going in your tent and taking it....just a thought.
you could do it for $20 a day, but you're probababy gonna want souveniers, party favors, etc. so make sure you take that into account.
i think we spent like $20 a day on smoothies alone lol.
$200-$300 is a good amount for the entire weekend, but you could do it for less

Yeah, pretty much what everyone said. Bring lots of snacks and stuff but plan on buying food there too...don't plan on cooking all your meals yourself.
And as for people stealing stuff...just watch out on Sunday night. If anybody is planning anything, it'll be then, right before they get on the road. Last year our neighbors warned us about it (looking out for the newbies!) after a lot of stuff was stolen from their tent. I would make sure everything is in the car by then.

I think you will spend as much money as you bring. I brought over 600 bux last year and got home with about 20. I could have probably gotten away with half that, but I like to be prepared for anything.

You have everything else pretty right - except the lines really are not that bad.
I think I took $150 - $200 each time and I also had a teenager with me, and I didn't spend even close to that much. We even bought tee-shirts and posters, cheap food and all of our water while inside. It also depends on how you spend your money in general. I tend to be pretty frugal because I don't have a lot of money, but I take enough just in case I "need" to buy something
Don't forget the baby wipes - they are a must have.

Yeah everyone has pretty much got it....got to find shakedown street for all the gratest late night munchies or well...pretty much whatever! The frest fruit smoothies....yeah you can never go overboard on those! They are soooo good and freat for quick energy boost....as is any kind of fruit and granola! Hippies need their granola haha.....if you eat meat try jerky. Buddy ate it all weekend last year and said it was great for energy. Also the breakfast plates in the camp grounds made me stop bringin stuff for breakfast! potatoes "well of course i will have cheese sauce" onions peppers holy cow i even can't wait for the food! haha
First time attending Bonnaroo, missed out on Cochella Last year.We are driving 23 Hours to get there from Canada for my buddys bachelor Party, hoping it's going to be worth the trip.
You think a acoustic guitar is a good idea to bring. I like to play when camping but worried about theft.
you can bring your guitar... it's hard to make a getaway with a guitar without somebody noticing.
really, wookies look in your coolers for beers, not in your guitar case. :-) so if you really want to fool them, keep your beers in your guitar case and your guitar in the cooler... that'll throw them for a loop! :-)

i was actually very surprised by the lack of thievery.
i drove in from a completely different direction as my friends last year (my first bonnaroo, they had been to a few) so i decided to just meet up with them after i was parked and they would help me move my stuff to thheir camp, etc. well, i ended up being parked REALLY far from where they were so we only took the stuff of mine we thought we would need. I drive a wrangler and had all the windows and doors out with the roof on, so anyone could have taken anything. I left a ton of stuff in there including about 3 cases of beer and none of it was touched. We alslo left alot of stuff you would think would get stolen in a second just in plain view at our campsite and nothing was ever touched and we really werent worried that it would be. The most surprising thing was people were turning in wallets to lost and found with hundreds of dollars in cash still in them. People at bonnaroo are just different, they want to help everyone out and want everyone to have a great time.
On the spending money...I lost my license and debit card during superjam (i belive that was the 2nd night?) and never found it so the guys i was with payed for my stuff all weekend (just some beers and food here and there). I had bought a souvenir before hand and splurged on a $10 massage with what cash I had left haha. It is very possible to go with very little money and still eat plenty.

we ran out of bread in 06(there was 10 of us, so yeah...)
we substituted tortillas instead. ever had pb&j on a flour tortilla?? not too shabby, except we found that pb only is probably a better choice...the j soaks through...its kinda nasty

that's about right... i love hearing stories of people losing $1000 cameras and someone finding them on a message board and sending it back. i love hearing stuff like that...
