I don't think HUKA has anything to do with Bayfest bookings. Nothing would please me more though than if Bayfest became hetti and pissed off all of it's core audience. They'll always have CPR fest though!
John Mayer as a headliner would be so weak. This festival used to rage so hard.......
Just say no to pussyrock!
Ahem....Paul Simon doesn't really seem like someone I would consider if I was going to "rage so hard"
I think Mayer is a fit. I would like to see him. He is no Paul Simon, and he is CERTAINLY no Jack White, but he is talented nonetheless, and has a decent fan base. I would rather him a sub HL maybe in the FLips spot or the Wilco spot would be good with me.
Mumford and Sons would be nice on the beach too. That would be a fantastic Friday night closer. Hopefully they out with their new CD before CHristmas so they can tour the US in the summer

Mumford or Mayer do fit the profile for Fri night closer, but I'd say its more likely either would be sub HL. I don't know what Jack White got for Friday, but considering that the Chilis cost $1mm and DMB was $1.2, neither Mumford or Mayer are close to that range. If Hangout is gonna splurge on HL in 2013 like they did this year , we should either be looking at comparably-priced HL (in which case I have NO idea who that would be) or cost distributed across more quality acts. I'd say the latter is more likely, but I can't profess to know anything.
I see Mayer being a possibility, but maybe as a pre Headliner. At this point, you can't tell me he is bigger than Wilco, Flaming Lips, or My Morning Jacket with the festival going crowd. I used them because they have been pre headliners the past 2 years.
- I bet a good amount of people who jumped at the idea of coming to this fest had no idea who Jack White was before looking him up (not people here, but their general populous for this fest)
- Jack White, by many accounts here and elsewhere, put on the best show of the headliners. And in some people's opinion, best of the weekend (personally I think it was Gogol)
- Mumford and Sons would headline IMO. They would be a good fit for the Jack White spot for sure but I could see them in the Wilco spot too (which I would prefer)
-John Mayer could headline but I would prefer him in a sub HL spot (SCI? But then where does the big jam headliner go?) I would like to see Mayer at the little stage personally (Letting Go) maybe the Umphrey's spot? Or is he too big for that? Idk...
- I definitely like the idea of only "splurging" on one Major Headliner and filling the bill with bands like Beck, Primus, Civil Wars, The Roots, Deer Tick, etc. more good music than big $/names
- I realize that I am not the usual type of fan that they are catering to.
- no matter what, it is a BEACH PARTY with lots of fun, good shows. It's a mini vacation with friends. People say "you can't Compare hangout to Roo. True. Apples and oceans.
We don't agree on everything, but Gogol was def the best show of the weekend (not counting the VIP Gary Clark Jr. set because that was special).
Seriously though, Paul Simon raged it. That shitt was awesome.
Jack was by far the best of the headliners. Headliners were a dissapointment this year though compared to last year. All three headliners crushed it last year. Chillis were weaksauce and DMB makes my penis soft.
I wasn't there last year I will take your word for it on Paul Simon. I could see it I guess but without ever have seen him its hard to connect those dots. Totally agree about RHCP. They were WAY better at Roo. And I was expecting a lot More out of DMB.
Paul Simon and Foo Fighters were outstanding. I can't speak for Widespread because we left after MMJ that day.
Here is the sad thing about next year: I think either Bonnaroo or Hangout is going to get Green Day'd, possibly both like RHCP this year. I don't want it to, but I think it is going to happen. It just feels like a super safe Hangout type of choice.

I have never seen them, so I am actually ok with them being one of the headliners. But if they headline both like RHCP I'll be upset. I'd prefer they play Hangout over Roo.
^^^ yea I have a feeling Green Day will be the chosen ones next year. Really wish it would be Prince/McCartney/Tool or something insanely epic. Prob gonna skip Green Day @ Voodoo this year and go see Madonna at the NOLA arena for shitzengiggles.
WSMFP threw down at Hangout. That was a really good Panic show. Came out the gate with Pigeons>Mr. Soul.......had a really good Surprise Valley..... Ride Me High>Stop Breakin' Down Blues w/ Warren was sickness as well.
Next year, Green Day will definitely be stickin' their dicks into at least as many festivals as RHCP did this year. I'd prefer them over Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, John Mayer, or Jack Johnson as a headliner though.
I will be happy if they get ANY 1 of the following as a headliner: Iron Maiden, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Prince, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Portishead, Bjork, The Cure, The Prodigy, Daft Punk, or Aphex Twin.
I also think The Flaming Lips need to back the fuck off and give that space up to Primus next year.

A few things....
Mayer would definitely headline. I can't stand the guy, but there's no denying it. He's famous, multi-platinum, plays arenas. His fee probably isn't in the $1 million range, but he probably costs more than Jack White. He might not be as popular among the hardcore festival crowd as Wilco, but those aren't the only people that buy tickets to festivals like Hangout.
All the Mayer talk is probably moot, though, because he announced an indefinite break from live music earlier this year. I doubt he's up and running again by the time Hangout starts booking.
Mumford would also headline. They were pulling headliner-sized crowds in sub-headliner spots a couple of years back, and they've really only gotten bigger since then. They also seem right up Hangout's alley. Not my first choice by a long shot, but I bet we see them next year.
Green Day definitely seems primed for a lot of festivals in '13. I'm just hoping Hangout thinks twice since they'll be headlining Voodoo in the fall.
FLips are a gimmick band when it comes to festis. I'm seein' em 4x Thursday in clubs so I'm hoping they mix it up with older material instead of the same f'n songs they always play.

They gotta! I bet you'll see a lot of the same people @ those shows. When are ya'll kickin' off the trip?

i'm usually one of the major proponents of the "one headliner doesn't make or break a fest" attitude, but seeing green day atop a festival lineup that i was planning on attending would cause me to abandon that line of thinking....they have been irrelevant for over a decade and everything they've done since nimrod has been....well....what's worse than atrocious?
Miraculously enough... you're right, I would rather see Green Day than Blink 182. I don't think I ever thought I would say "I would rather see Green Day than..." anyone, ever.

I saw Green Day in 1995 and I had a good time. But I was 18 and it was 1995.
This year, it was totally not about the headliners for me. So if GD is there, I will check the show out for some of it but I don't really put too much stock in headliners that I don't really care to see. Like RHCP and DMB.
I can't believe there is so much hate towards Mayer. He's an amazing artist- lyrically, musically, and he puts on ONE hell of a show. I wish for nothing more than to see him just once.
that blows that he'll be there and I can't be.(IF he actually goes cuz the dude never tours it seems like)
EDIT: If he doesn't go to Hangout, hopefully Roo I feel he's more fit for Roo
