Eminem wasn't confirmed until the last week before the 2011 lineup came out I think. Neil Young was also supposed to play last year but a deal wasn't made before the lineup came out or the fest started. I think they have the ideas for headliners within the money they could spend and just sign undercard bands throughout the offseason
Don't they talk to a lot of these headliners for like a year in advance? Or is that just something I thought I read but am making up?
That's what I thought too. Seems like most touring acts plan their entire year around festival dates these days. I assumed they'd want a year to cement contracts/plans and such. Seems that both AC and the artist would need that much time really.
Typically one off acts seem to be the last minute/replacement deals like Dre and Snoop's Coach shows and Eminem in 11.

"The organization of the biggest festival over here [Netherlands], Pinkpop (14-16 June 2013), announced some new names today. Much more interesting, they also mentioned that negotiations to get Paul McCartney to the festival were at an advanced stage, but they lost the negotiation war to an American festival in the same weekend"

My chest just got tight and I had this big grin on my face and...and...
It's probably false. I refuse to get my hopes up with two months to go that I would see THE Paul McCartney at Bonnaroo 2013. Jesus though, it would get me there and then some. The rest of the lineup could be garbage. Doesn't matter; Saw Paul McCartney.

Yeah I'd have to say this would be very dissapointing if it didn't happen but I can't help to get my hopes up. Physically and emotionally impossible. It would get my Dad to go and it would be amazing to do something like this with him as he is the one who got me into music and is a huge Beatles fan.
I don't know how he'd feel with me having corn all the time but...Macca

I mean, I'm usually first to scoff at random "confirmations" such as this, but I feel really good about this one.
I mean, why would a random european site make up a quote such as that? It's so random, it seems like it has to be true.
This was the first year in the last 5 where I was most likely not going to be able to make it to Roo, but if this is true, I'll have to triple my efforts.
His last couple tours (and I'm assuming most of the time) seem to be about 60%/30%/10% for Beatles/Wings/Solo stuff.
At his Yankee Stadium show I think it was more like 75%/15%/10%, he really laid on the Beatles stuff (which was what I was hoping for).
(upon reviewing an actual setlist)....I wasn't far off. 8 out of 37 songs were Wings, a handful of solo, the rest Beatles. So that's 21% Wings, so I would expect a little more solo stuff if he's coming out with a new album.
But the fact is, you know everything he's playing for the most part, and if you've seen him before you're seeing a very similar show to the one you've already seen. And you know what? It doesn't matter. My Dad's seen Macca something like 5 times in the past couple years. He saw him at BOTH Yankee stadium shows. If I wasn't poor I would have done the same. There's just something about seeing an effin' BEATLE on stage that will never, ever lose it's magic to me.
80k people singing Hey Jude? Yeah, good luck getting those goosebumps to go down...ever.
I just got goosebumps thinking about it. Would be fucking incredible!

I saw Macca at Coachella when he headlined. My very pregnant wife at the time and I were sitting on our couch one lovely morning in Phoenix Arizona. I turned to her and said, "Want to drive to Indio today and go see Paul McCartney at Coachella?" It was the most impulsive thing I've ever done and I am so happy that we did it.
I have also seen Paul live in concert in an arena and it's like oil and water.
At the arena show, no one danced, no one got up. It was dull. HOWEVER, he still rocked and it was a great show.
Coachella, much different crowd. People dancing, having a blast and Paul felt that energy. I am pretty sure he did 4 encores that night. FOUR times everyone was walking away from the main stage, houselights up, and Paul came back on stage for another song or two. It was also the anniversary of Linda's death and Paul enjoyed talking about that. I think he went 45 minutes over his set time (and cerfew)
Bottom line, if Paul plays Bonnaroo this year, don't miss it. It's a completely different show from his "other" shows.

Found it. Here is the setlist to Coachella. I was wrong... only three encores. But keep in mind, everyone at the main stage was walking away.... and here comes Paul again. It's cool if it happens once, but it was EPIC he fooled us twice.
Also before the show, he had a DJ come out and spin Beatle tunes. It was pretty sweet. A nice hour set of techno Beatles that had a Macca stamp of approval. Main set: Jet / Drive My Car / Only Mama Knows / Flaming Pie / Got to Get You Into My Life / Let Me Roll It (with a coda of Purple Haze) / Honey Hush / Highway / The Long and Winding Road / My Love / Blackbird / Here Today / Dance Tonight / Calico Skies / Mrs. Vanderbilt / Eleanor Rigby / Sing the Changes / Band on the Run / Back in the U.S.S.R. / Something / I’ve Got a Feeling / Paperback Writer / A Day in the Life > Give Peace a Chance / Let It Be / Live and Let Die / Hey Jude
First encore: Birthday / Can’t Buy Me Love / Lady Madonna
Second encore: Yesterday / Helter Skelter
Third encore: Get Back / Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) > The End
I want this bad after seeing Ringo in July and on his birthday to boot! I know I will see Paul this year for sure one way or the other but the Beatles with Inforoo would be so much better!
