Was there another Macca thread before last June or something when I started this one?
It may seem confusing but Mander's comments were from a different thread. That thread got merged with yours since yours was started first. The "Lock it up" is referring to the old one. I'll edit that post to clarify
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
This is the kind of show I'm considering ditching my group for and sitting in line for the pit all day, depending on Friday's schedule.
I just can't wait to see this up close:
Are we all in agreement that this is going to have to be an all day pit wait? For instance, showing up at 5PM to get in line isn't going to do you any good, right? I'm thinking the all day sacrifice will be necessary, but I'm looking for consensus opinion on that.
I love Paul more than anything but I refuse to waste my entire Friday in line.
Normally I would agree. And I still might agree depending on what the Friday schedule reveals. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually get rail for a Paul McCartney show at a major music festival. I'm expecting that atmosphere and environment to be much more rabid than his normal shows where so many different people show up. I might actually take the plunge on doing this, but we'll see.

This is where I am. On the one hand, wasting an entire Bonnaroo day at the What Stage is shameful. On the other hand, this is Paul fvcking McCartney. A front row ticket at one of his shows is at least $300, so I could see him front row and then get two free days of music (that makes sense, right?)

And that's not even taking into consideration that it's really much more than $300 because the only real way to obtain that kind of ticket is on the secondary market. Generally speaking, you're looking at anywhere between $500 and $1000 for that kind of proximity to the stage at his usual seated shows. And let's be honest, the man is 70. He's not going to be playing shows for much longer. This is pretty much our last shot for a front row McCartney experience. That's my argument for wasting the entire day.
I have no idea. I was just going to gauge it by walking over that way and seeing what was going on.
I'm in no position to say that I would definitely do this. It has to be a weak Friday or strong What stage acts to get me to wait in line all day. If there's a few must see bands at Which/tents I'm going to have to go to those. I'm thinking as long as I'm in the middle of 80,000 people singing to the same songs that might just have to be good enough for my first Macca experience. But there's always a chance I get greedy.
I'm thinking that if I'm going for the pit, which I very well might, I'm heading down there around 10.
Missed this post. Is the What even open to the public that early? So do you just sit at the gate until they open it and then run to one of the fences?
Theoretically they open What an hour before the first act. They tend to cut it a little short and it seems to vary based on what way you're getting in. The good news for squatters is that many years Friday's first What set starts a bit later than Saturday and Sunday so that's less of a wait.

Thanks. Good info. So it seems the best plan of action is to mix in with those waiting to see the first What act of the day and then just run over to security by one of the fences and ask where the McCartney line starts.
I have to admit that this is just starting to sink in for me. I think I'm more excited tonight than I was when the lineup dropped. Is there some reason that we're assuming he's playing Friday night rather than Saturday? I thought the the first name on the lineup was always the Saturday night headliner.

Those that got the initial rumour heard that he was playing on Friday. We've been rolling with that since their confirmation was correct.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Dave Matthews Band was first in 2010 and they closed out Sunday.
Edit: Kings of Leon were also listed 2nd that year.
any chance he sticks around the entire weekend? he could be a fly in fly out type of guy, but part of me wants to believe he will hang out for a bit
He is definitely now a fly in and fly out guy. I know when he played coach he was there the whole time checking out shows and he has been back at coach every year since.
1) For those who will be content with not being in the pit, what time do people think you'd have to get there to be in a reasonable spot, say in the front half of the crowd or so?
2) If he closes Sunday instead of the presumed Friday, how many peoples' exit strategy will be quacked?
Hoping Wilco is on what right before Macca. This seem likely?
It's certainly possible. The last time Wilco was at Bonnaroo they were a pre-headliner on the main stage. This year I have been saying the only options for them would be to pre-headline for someone again or for them to get a a late night slot (possibly on the Which...possibly in a tent). I can't see them doing much else.

I think it's going to have to be that. With Pretty Lights on the lineup, that takes one of the LN Which spots. I doubt they give the other one to Wilco. And Wilco in a tent at any time is a no go (albeit awesome if you had a good spot for it). The wildcard is that they could pre-headline for Petty on Sunday which is the scenario people aren't considering.
