Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
i talked to the sound engineer that was riding R. Skaggs bus in the front shotgun seat when they hit that dude. the dude waited and ran out in front of them on a deathwish suicide mission. freaky. and i was camping with skaggs daughter when it happened and she got the call. buzzkill!

I'd just say common sense is the key. Stay hydrated and avoid excesses, especially if you're not used to the weather. Also, if your body tells you to stop and take a break, DO IT! I have pretty high stamina. But for the first time ever I started feeling some signs of dehydration, so got some cold liquid and got myself to some shade right away (Our camp was waaaay out but it was lined with some trees). I was fine in a few minutes. Not to lessen/make light of any tragedy, but Bonnaroo has an excellent track record. Help is always nearby and there's a great spirit of community.

i know there are no druqs at bonnaroo but if someone happens to stumble upon rolls SOMEHOW, be careful of water. you can become dehydrated very easily, but there is another danger and that is actually drinking TOO MUCH water. just a word to the wise.

Drink some gatorade or fruit juice. That will balance out your electrolytes and keep your blood sugar up, AND hydrate you. That way you're in less danger of drinking too much water

In my brush with dehydration, it was Gatorade that I drank. I think it was more effective than water would have been b/c I could actually feel some energy coming back to my body.
yeah some fat dude at tool died, but he was rolling? i think its awesome that out of 80k or more people a year, we only hear about a couple deaths a year. most people take care of themselves, its not too hard to do
The TOOL guy did NOT die. It's just a rumor. In fact, someone on this board knows him and he is fine.
And he probably wants us to stop referring to him as "the fat dude" ;D
There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard. No song that I could sing. But I can try for your heart Our dreams, and they are made out of real things Like a, shoebox of photographs With sepiatone loving Love is the answer
A little feeling in my gut that I get of late when I think about these cats running the world with hate
Ecstasydata.org <------------- This may help too, If you can find a internet connection. I talked to a guy last year that said he could get a connection but it was super slow. I never roll without going here.
Everyone here keeps saying "drink lots of water" one of my friends knows first hand that there is a limit to this. If you are peeing clear, you're good, dont over do it. Also drink pedialyte, contains essential electrolytes and doesnt destroy your teeth like gatorade.

keep in mind - you will be sweating so much - you may hardly pee at all
I know this is TMI - but I am one that has to pee constantly - not at 'roo - in the morning and maybe 1 or 2 times the rest of the day - you sweat it all out
To over-hydrate yourself to the point of a problem, you need to drink about 10 liters of water in about ten minutes...I know this because we were talking about it the other day on some other thread, and I looked it up.
In 100 degree weather, you are not going to drink too much water....period. Drink all the water you can handle, whatever color your pee is...
Lay of the [deleted word] that raise your body temp or dehydrate you....if you don't know which ones those are....lay off all the [deleted word]...you shouldn't be putting things in your body if you don't know what they do to you anyway.

you stole my answer! ;D
but yeah...at bonnaroo, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to over-hydrate.
^^^ya know - the other thing that I thought - how the hell do you know what color your pee is anyway - you are in a dark stinkin portapotty - I am not gonna be looking down there to see if I can figure out what color my pee is
Thanks for the horrible mental image of somebody hobbled over inside of a porta-john shining a flashlight down and trying to figure out what color it is. ;D

Six in six years is amazingly good, IMHO.
Edit: The annual death rate is about 8.2 persons per 1000 per year so in a town of 100,000, 820 people will normally die in a year. This corresponds to about 9 people every 4 days.
So Bonnaroo averages fewer deaths than a normal US town of its' size. (about 1/9 the normal US death rate but of course Bonnaroovians are , in general, healthier)
Yes, the numbers geek is at it again
true, but i hope that no one who is near death (because they're very old or very ill) would come to bonnaroo unless they went vip/air conditioned/consistent hydration/golf cart transportation the entire time... and beside that, all the other big causes of death i can think of are automobile deaths (no one is driving), violent crimes, and spontaneous combustion.
so... advice on how not to die at bonnaroo: don't spontaneous combust and you should be fine.
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.
This definitely sounds like a rumor, but you never know. In 2006, I remembering hearing that there were two deaths at Bonnaroo that year. The first was the guy who was hit by Skagg's tour bus. That was confirmed. The second is a little less believable, but this person was correct about the first one so you never know. He said that there was second death that involved the "tent tornado" effect caused when a gust of air picks up a tent and causes it to hover high in the air (videos on youtube). The story goes that a guy was riding in the bed of a pick-up truck sitting in an uncollapsed tent. Wind and the force of the truck caused the tent to lift out of the truck bed, causing the kid to fall and land on his neck. Anyone else hear this.
I also witnessed a close call that year. I was waiting in the huge mass of people to get into Centeroo on Friday at noon. There was a guy standing directly in front of me who looked completely dazed. I don't know if if was heat, dehydration, or party favors, but this guy was pale as a sheet. A few second later, this guy just collapses and has a pretty bad looking seizure right in front of me. He began convulsing rigamortis-style and his face went from pale to pea green. I was scared senseless, as I was sure that this poor was going to die right in front of me. When people noticed, pandemonium ensued and just about everyone was calling for medical assistance. I thought there was no way he was going to make it, but after about 20 seconds, the kid just jumps up to his feet and says "I'm fine" like nothing ever happened and just went on his way. Did anyone else witness this?

We had two different people stand near us go down with heat stroke watching Yonder Mtn a few years back. Pretty scary. One the med staff came and got the first one, the other we dragged into the shade, half stripped and doused with cold water. After he perked up, his buds took him to the med tent. Spoke to a couple of other guys who said they had to get IVs that year. Not fun.

If light conditions don't allow observation of color, the subsitute test is if it no longer tastes salty. ;D

We saw a guy get carried out on one of the fourwheelers and he looked terrible! Kind of a green color. I don't know what was wrong but it didn't look good.
