I was actually thinking about this the other day myself. I was unaware that anyone had died at Bonnaroo. I'll comb the internet and see what I come up with.

I know a guy died in the tent right next to my friends in '05. The official cause of death was suffocation in his sleep, but his group had been partying pretty hard...apparently he just had a bit too much, rolled over face-down on his pillow, and didn't wake up. His group was obviously bummed, and they left immediately.
As far as being careful yourself, just don't overdo it, and stay hydrated. Make sure your tent is well-ventilated, too.
(By the way Troo, the guy hit by the bus was in '06, I believe.)

That might be the guy. I'd have to ask her about it again, but one of their neighbors did die in his sleep that year. I guess at Roo people just assume that druqs are involved...just goes to show that it can happen any time. Life is fragile.
but didnt someone die last year to? i remeber hearing it on the radio..i jjust know that i am gonna drink ALOT of water during hte day, then just have a good time at night, and dont over do it..only 111 more days.i cant wait!!
yeah some fat dude at tool died, but he was rolling? i think its awesome that out of 80k or more people a year, we only hear about a couple deaths a year. most people take care of themselves, its not too hard to do

Yeah, I remember reading that someone died at the Tool show last year and I also remember seeing kids being dragged out of the crowd who were tripping way too hard. I saw one kid getting CPR from the meds, but I think he came out alright.

How to be safe? WATER WATER and more WATER. That's the number one way to stay safe, is to stay hydrated. And use common sense.. don't overdo yourself, if you need to go back to your tent, even if it means missing out on a set you want to see, go back to your tent. Everyone at Bonnaroo will help you if you need anything, so just don't go all out and make yourself sick, and you'll be okay. :]
You really have to give credit to this site (and I'm sure there are others) This will be my first roo and I feel wayyyyy more prepared / comfortable about going than I did before I started reading things here. Not to mention, all the friends I was trying to convince now see that its not so bad.. if you come prepared.

Karma for Inforoo
word
this will be my second roo, so i feel more prepared anyway, but i only WISH i'd found this site before going in 06. there were 10 of us, and not one of us had every actually been. craziness! it all worked out, ok, but this year i can focus more on just relaxing
the buss incident was in "06" and it was Ricky Scaggs buss. The fat guy at tool survived, and the death last year was a Kentuckian who died on the first day of roo. Last i heard they were still awaiting autopsy results. A total of six people have died since Bonnaroo started

Don't do no no word (especially ecstacy if the weather is hot, which it probably will be), don't get on the interstate, drink plenty of water. Also realize that any beverage that contains alcohol or caffeine will not hydrate you and will actually dehydrate you.
Edit: The annual death rate is about 8.2 persons per 1000 per year so in a town of 100,000, 820 people will normally die in a year. This corresponds to about 9 people every 4 days.
So Bonnaroo averages fewer deaths than a normal US town of its' size. (about 1/9 the normal US death rate but of course Bonnaroovians are , in general, healthier)
Yes, the numbers geek is at it again

party at night! don't think its a good idea to get completely mindlessly trashed for the bands that play at 2 PM, no matter how trippy they are. if you wait until sunset to indulge, you have a better chance of survival
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

this is true! i had no idea what i was doing when i went to bonnaroo the first time. i don't think i had more than two beers the whole time, but just walking around all day and being in the sun wore me out. i didn't enjoy the nightlife the way i would have liked.

The TOOL guy did NOT die. It's just a rumor. In fact, someone on this board knows him and he is fine.

Or think about it this way, Manchester is a town of about 10,000 (not quite) and over the course of 4 days normally, there will be anywhere from 0 up to 10 deaths. the Manchester Times obituary has about 10 - 15 deaths per week.
now when roo rolls around, our town swells to close to 100,000 people, for it to average only one death per year is pretty damn astronomical....The death rate at roo is much lower than pretty much any regular town or city in the country....
