Thinking about going and it would be my first time.
Any suggestions/ideas on good/close hotels at a good price?
Thanks in advance!
Are you going to have a car? If not, you either want to be in walking distance of Zilker Park, or near the shuttle which goes to 4th and Guadalupe St in Downtown.
Check out www.airbnb.com I use it all the time. People rent out their homes/apartments/rooms to others.

This is my usual go to under $200 a night hotel for ACL. It's sold out for the first weekend, probably the second by now too. It puts you right in the heart of downtown and the aftershows.
Austin Motel. This is the best deal on a quality room around.Really cool place. They only take reservations a month in advance unfortunately. I think you have to be standing in their lobby on that day because I've never had luck getting booked for this fest.
This probably hasn't been much help this late in the booking season.Airbnb may be your best bet. There are a few places around east of I-35, north of downtown, that are not really the best atmosphere but they are cheap and safe and within walking distance of downtown. I've used them as last resorts. There are also some nice Marriott hotels east of I-35 and south of downtown that offer a shuttle service.
No car. Someone mentioned the Omni hotel as being a good close hotel. I'm hoping to get a room rate under $200, but that's not likely so we'll see.
Thanks for the www.airbnb.com site recommendation, checking it out now and found some neat places!
I don't know what's sold out or not, but I imagine the travel packages are still available. You can get 2-ticket/3-night hotel packages through the ACL site. Omni's package was like $1,600 - which makes it $350-400 a night - so bad if you're strapped for cash but good if everything else is sold out.
I'm at the HI Hostel. Kind of looking forward to it as I haven't stayed in one in yeeeeaaaaars. And seeing as I am doing this festival solo, it seemed like a nice plan.
Booked my room today at the Austin Motel. Only took about 300 tries before I got an answer.
Good choice. Definitely within walking distance to the fest. I love that place and the neighborhood on South Congress is fantastic. Guero's Taco Bar would be nice for afternoon lunch and margaritas. Try some Jo's Coffee and maybe some Amy's Ice Cream. More than likely a decent late night show will be happening at The Continental Club across the street on Sunday when not much else is going on at other venues. I'm curious as to how the aftershows will work with it being two weekends now.
Ahh, I can't see the one stage on the right side of the grid. Without that, it looks like no conflicts to be had for me until Sunday if I was going. FIDLAR and Parquet Courts would be great ways to start off Friday and Saturday.
Not sure how early we'll get in Friday. I'll be spending a lot of the weekend moving around and checking stuff out, as I don't see indie or folk(ish) shows that often.
Friday: Thao & the Get Down Stay Down - Jimmy Eat World/Holly Williams - Pinback - Luella and the Sun - The Black Angels/Vampire Weekend - Queens of the Stone Age - Depeche Mode
Saturday: Hundred Waters - Mona - Deap Vally - HAIM - Delta Rae - Silversun Pickups - Joy Formidable - Wilco - The Shouting Matches - The Cure
Sunday: watching Saints game at Shoal Creek - D'Angelo - JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound - The National - Tame Impala - Atoms for Peace
Gonna close out the fest with that Lionel Richie encore. Also thinking I could do the same Friday with Muse. We'll be on bikes so I'm looking forward to seeing what's up with the aftershows.
Why does their schedule page suck? I want to be able to add bands to a customized schedule and save it.
Yeah. I tried that a week ago. The mobile app hasn't been updated for this year either. I think they will fix that within a couple of weeks. I'm really curious to see how they do the aftershows with this being the first fest to do the two weekend/mostly same lineup thing that has those late night club shows. Will they have the same bands at the same clubs both weekends? I've gone to ACL weekend in the past only for aftershows and it's usually tough picking the one you want to see.
