As long as they don't shout "I can't see!" when I'm standing in front of them, that's ok by me.
Its a free for all IMO. When music starts I stand regardless of venue. I usually get the shoulder tap every show. "Umm can you sit down?" "I cant see" "Your in the way". It cracks me up. Stand up people! Yes i see your blanket is under my muddy feet. Sorry im hitting the back of your chair just so happens 20000 people are inching forward on my back. Enjoy the sight of my @ss as you sit down and enjoy the music.
Herd a girl ask a tall guy to crouch down so she could see. His face was hilarious.
When people try and rush the stage "my friends are right there". Sure they are bud.
I just discovered this festival (well, this year's lineup). Is there always a considerable overlap between this and NFF given that they're both on the east coast and on the same weekend?
I only just noticed today that the date each announced artist is playing is listed on their profile page. Looks like only one band announced for Friday so far (unless I missed a second one).
Do we know if Friday is a full day of music? By price, I would assume it's only a half day. But they posted on Twitter: "Friday is a great deal" which makes me think it may be cheaper just because it's harder to lure people in on a Friday (with work)

Last year it was three bands (MegaFaun, Blitzen Trapper and Wilco) on Friday and it was an evening only thing. It was also the first time (I believe) that NFF had Friday acts. Probably will be similar this year.

How much were Friday tickets last year? I feel like $50 festival tickets should get you a little more than 3 bands, but I guess you'd pay close to $50 just to see Wilco anymore.
I wonder if Friday this year, rather than being just one concert on the main stage, will be more like what Bonnaroo does on Thursdays - a couple stages open, with some smaller acts? I only say this because there's no way I can imagine the Last Bison playing the main.
This is what I was thinking. The fact that they're billing this as a "3 day festival" now when they've always had some affiliation with Friday shows and never called it that before (even though Friday shows were offsite until last year).
Uh oh... I'm going to be in trouble. My parents weren't sure if they can make it this year or not, but they asked me to pick up two two-days for them. I did not.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
a) 3 + years now of solid lineups (faith in the product even before knowing the lineup) b) Stronger efforts at trying to stay up to date with the latest derivatives of (popular) folk music (expanding the market by bringing in newer and younger crowds) c) Sell outs the last 2 years (fear that it'll sell out causes front loading of ticket purchases)
Can you tell I'm a marketing guy?

We wanted to take a moment and thank you profusely for your loyalty and trust in helping us sell out tickets for Saturday, July 27th. We also wanted to let you know that Sunday, July 28th, is not far behind so if you plan on coming don't delay. If you are looking to come to the festival for only one day, there are still tickets left for Friday and it's a lower ticket price.
As many of you know, we have begun rolling out the names of the 2013 Artists. We wanted each artist to have their due and rightful attention, so please take a moment and read the exclusive announcements that have accompanied each artist from bloggers, artists, folk fans like yourselves, and even our founder George Wein. We hope you are enjoying them as much as we are.
In other Newport Folk news, this last weekend we had our second Newport Folk Presents show with the Folk favorites, Punch Brothers, at the House of Blues. Overall it was a whopping success and a tremendous night of music. As leader Chris Thile announced from the stage, "this is the biggest show we've had. Way to go Boston." Newport Folk Presents is also excited to announce that we have been asked by the good people at SXSW to host a showcase during the annual music conference in Austin. (to see the digital poster click here). We really like helping produce these unique events, and plan on bringing more to you in 2013.
Again, it's you, our folk, that make everything we do worth it, and for that we are sincerely grateful.
Much Obliged, The Folk Family
And then Sunday sold out a couple hours later.
