They hinted today that they may not make an official lineup announcement until the day of the festival.
Here is the series of tweets:
In all seriousness we may not announce the 2013 lineup until the day of the show
Let's us explain a bit more... Due to our size & non-profit status we have a VERY limited budget every year. Meaning only bands who get "it" are the ones who come to the fest, ie not for $ but for love of the Festival
however, many of these bands can only play us IF they do not break other big $ paying fetsival radius clause
the only way to avoid breaking another festival's radius clause is to NOT use the band's name in any marketing
so two choices have no "headlining" artists meaning all great but smaller artists and announce the line-up OR a few surprise/ "bigger" artists announced at the last minute....
What is everyone's thoughts?
Personally I think it's a great idea. You know that the people attending will be the true music lovers, which probably means smaller crowds. And I think being surprised by big name artists would be super exciting. For example, I had no idea D'Angelo was going to be at the Superjam. I'm not even that familiar with his music, but witnessing a surprise like that was one of the biggest highlights of my weekend.
Here are all officially confirmed bands so far. I'll do my best to keep it updated!
The Lone Bellow Shovels & Rope Andrew Bird The Last Bison Houndmouth The Lumineers Michael Kiwanuka Spirit Family Reunion Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers Jason Isbell Jim James Hurray for the Riff Raff Kingsley Flood JD McPherson Father John Misty Iris DeMent The Mountain Goats Rayland Baxter Tift Merritt The Felice Brothers Hey Marseilles Trombone Shorty Black Prairie Bombino Langhorne Slim & The Law Michael Hurley Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls Wheeler Brothers Beth Orton John McCauley Lord Huron Colin Meloy Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Dawn McCarthy Cold Specks Justin Townes Earle Blake Mills Old Crow Medicine Show Berklee Gospel & Roots Choir Amanda Palmer Sarah Jarosz Phosphorescent Feist The Milk Carton Kids The Avett Brothers Joe Fletcher's Nashville to Newport Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower The Low Anthem's Newport Homegrown Beck
So funny that you started this thread today. I was actually thinking about NFF this morning and was thinking about starting the thread!!! Keep in mind, now that you started, you'll be in charge of all the updating!
For me, I'd be fine either way and go no matter what. At most festivals, it's not the headliners that bring me in, so if there is no headliner, I am a-ok. If there is a surprise headliner.. I love surprises!
I just wonder about the people who drove/flew great distances last year to go to NFF and MMJ was a big part of the draw. I worry that some of those people might not make the trek?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Crap, I don't know if I'm ready for that level of responsibility!
I've actually never attended NFF, but was hoping to make this my first year. I've been on the hunt for more family friendly music festivals, and I thought this would be a nice alternative to Bonnaroo. My little girl will be 3 next summer, and my wife loves live music, but hates large crowds. She did Bonnaroo once and the crowd was just too much for her.
Plus the lineups are always musically right up my alley.

I wasn't a a fan of this news.....but I originally thought it was the full lineup and not just headliner-level acts. I read through it all now and it's not as bad as I though. Knowing the acts ahead of time is a major deciding factor for me. But I'd be happy knowing the basic lineup and finding out headliners later on. As long as Deer Tick still does late night shows
this year was my first time at NFF. Having been to Forecastle, Allgood, and several Roos. NFF is a completely different animal. As far as festivals go, it would be my opinion that is is by far the most family friendly. I have complete faith in NFF to have a lineup worth attending for. I will be there in 2013.

Let's face it, NFF is already a top five festival for Inforoo folks. If you don't get to Rhode Island next July - you aren't really an Inforooster (or you're just really really broke and need a new job and some financial planning asap.)
So.... Thought we should tell you all, it's official we are adding Friday 7/26 to the weekend festivities. Please plan accordingly. More info to come... until then have a happy and merry.
This is big news!!! What has been a 2 day fest for years is now a 3 day fest. Guess they liked what they saw in terms of crowd size for the Friday Wilco show this yearl.
Jacko - you'll have to do some googling on that. Not familiar with the Jamestown Ferry services.
As for QC- Of course folks will have a place to stay! That said, depending on both of our employment statuses, food and transportation may not be as plentiful. (Plenty of mushies for Bunny though! )
(Third issuer name on the paycheck.. but today is my 25th anniversary in Info Tech at BCBSRI. I made it - yay!! Quacker made his 25 yrs over the summer. Gets us nothing but bragging rights, but i made it and looks like i might get by through jan 1st, another yay! After that all bets are off with the new system up and running. )
Either way there will be room to stay, sleeps.. and fuds though depending on the situation it may be more .. economical fuds.
Employed or not, IF we arrange transportation it will be for the day only... not for night shows. That got a little to complicated at the last moments, and this is a BIG and..... once the train leaves the station there will be NO stopping until NFF. Bring a cup. ;D
Quacker and I truly hope we can do a gathering much like last year, with 'lessons learned' applied to make it better for the overall weekend. Fingers crossed.
PS website said ticket sales in Jan. We are So in line-up or not. Dont get shutout. Get your tickets early.
