Alejandro Escovedo and Friends at Continental Club was a great way to end things on Sunday. Got a bit of Athens, GA rock history after Peter Buck and Mike Mills gave a high energy performance. Drivin' N' Cryin' went on next and after doing their song "R.E.M." in which Kevin Kinney proclaims "the biggest southern rock band that I know in the world is R.E.M." an ecstatic Buck and Mills rushed back out with the singer of Blackberry Smoke to join in on "Straight To Hell". Buck talked about how Drivin' N' Cryin' was his favorite band when he started out in the Athens music scene. True Believers was fun closing as was Willie Nile, Big Sugar, and Bobby Bare Sr. and Jr.

Okay seriously - you scored a ticket to the 250-person Prince show on Saturday night that went until like 3am and you're next SXSW post is about Willie Nile and the Bobby Bare family?
If you did not go to that Prince show I will personally drive to Texas and punch you in the face. I already have the TIN so my pacifist-spouting, take 'er easy days are done.

Prince was amzing, Tom. A Tribe Called Quest being the surprise opener was the cherry on top. Lots of dancing took place
Unfortunately, I got a little too excited to be able to do a quality write up on it. As far as the other show, what was amazing was Peter Buck and the True Believers reunion. I did not expect to enjoy Bobby Bare really, but he was good. After Escovedo introduced him as a legend and talked about how excited he was for him to be there he was nowhere to be found when Bobby called him up to duet on "I Was Drunk". Luckily a young girl ran him down backstage and he took the mic before the end of the first verse. Sunday did not have a lot happening. The Continental Club and Alejandro are two of my favorite Austin staples, so seeing that amazing lineup of guest with Al walking around in a snake skin jacket and scarf and emceeing all night was super fun for me. It was really kicked back too until Peter Buck blew the doors off that little club.

I would have killed to see that duet of I was Drunk. And the rest of the show for that matter. Alejandro is the man. A True Believers reunion musta been just ridiculous.
Flume was easily one of my favorites of the festival, ranks close to where Trentemoller was the other year (one of my all time best electronic shows ever). Got a few other people to go see Flume just by tweeting about him and they loved it. I regret not seeing him twice though, he played like 8 sets at sxsw I think. Could have seen him Saturday night :/ and should have.
Here are some videos I took of my favorite shows. Still need to start on my photos, I only brought my Canon pocket camera and my iphone.
Blue Hawaii - One of the biggest electronic surprises.
The Flaming Lips - new song and Wayne's weird strapped baby
Alt-J - Only a 30 minute set, but greatness
Jim James
Icona Pop - I love It
Chvrches - Recover
FLUME - One of these has better sound than the other one.
Maserati - new drummer is a beast. RIP Jerry Fuchs.
